I have had her for just over a year now but she's always escaping! She is quite a challenge as she can open her cage door, Open the lid to her ball, open her play pen lid with her teeth and climb the stairs!!! her favourite hiding place is under the dishwasher, which is very annoying. Editor's Note - 2011-03-09 It depends on what type. If it is a cage with bars, you will want to make sure the bars are spaced close enough together that the mouse cannot get it's head through. A glass aquarium/terrarium would be fine, though.

Dave B - 2010-12-16 Unlike rabbits, hamsters don't normally eat their poop or bedding. It is possible that she was holding it too tight, but it is hard to say for sure. Hamsters do need lots of chew toys, they are chewers for sure, so make sure Pinky has lots of chew toys and see if that helps.

You should never hold her by the neck or hold onto her stomach too tight. When you first get a hamster the first thing you should do is not touch her or play with her until she gets used to the surroundings. This might be a result of being scared or possibly a disorder. Leave her alone for a few days and try this approach again. If she continues to do this you should see a vet.

Hamster Owner - 2008-07-08 In the "coolest comments" section, the person says that it is normal for a hamster to chew on their bars. Yes, it is common, but it is not a good sign! It means the hamster is bored! They can easily damage their teeth chewing on the bars. Give you hamster more excercise, more space, more (healthy!) things to chew on and it won't be gnawing on the bars.

I take them out for about 4 hours every night, they have HUGE cages, all kinds of toys and things to chew on, exercise wheels in their cages, everything. But they seem to think that if they are awake they should be out of the cage and with me. I just thought I'd put in my experience in case the same was true for anyone else. Let me know.

Morgan - 2011-01-04 I'm not sure if what hamster it is. But my knowledge is that any animal can be albino. So it really could be either. Do some research on the fur types, what you feed it, and some other things. That may tell you what it is.

Susan - 2010-02-24 I got a hamster about 5 weeks ago. It was a baby and I have held it several times a day and allow it to crawl all over me. My problems is - it will not walk into my hand or eat food from my hand. I have to reach in and grab it. I have had many hamsters growing up and my children had them. Any suggestions to make it a little tamer?
