josh - 2011-02-02 Try feeding her something that she has never eaten before like a lizard. I had the same problem for a little bit she was just sick of her mouse only diet.
Derek Ross - 2014-10-22 Uh, actually, to both of you (hoping its not too late, for then or any new current or future tarantulas) its not healthy to feed them mammals or other small animals like rodents or reptiles. Terrestrial tarantulas mostly eat large insects and very rarely animals, as they dont have all the proper enzymes to break them down and get all the possivle nutrients out of it like theyd be able to by eating a grasshopper and crickets. He is right about changing up the diet though.
PF - 2012-02-06 Hello, I just bought (Saturday) my first female Theraphosa blondi and I'm really enjoying her. I fell in love with her as soon as I saw her. She's sweet in nature, I even gently tested her with prongs at the pet store and she showed no agression. Naturally she's skittish so I have to go really, really, really slow in my movements. This morning I gently pet her legs without a fuss. Maybe (and I expect) her to change in time, maybe when she becomes sexually mature her temper will be more agressive. Now she measure about 6 inches in leg span, maybe more. I haven't found a name for her yet but I will find soon. I just felt like sharing with you my new T. blondi. Have a nice day! PF

Derek Ross - 2014-10-22 Awesome! I'm planning on getting one as a spiderling and I'm hoping I can teach it to be extremely playful. I heard Blondis are mean but on this site I've seen a few examples of them being nice. But I would want to hold her and find ways to play with her so I'm hoping. If you could give me any advice I would really appreciate it! My emaik is green.shoelace2@gmail.com
Kat Von - 2009-06-22 I have had my T. blondi for a few months now and she is so sweet. I don't hold her unless I have to move her to clean her cage because she is nervous and kicks hairs and I don't want to stress her out. But she never bites or tries to bite. She stays hidden most of the time and if I lift her hide, she runs out just long enough to be seen and then goes back under to hide again. She is a voracious eater--she had her 3rd pinky last week! I have 10 other tarantulas as well. I have 3 rose hairs, the goliath, a greenbottle blue, Indian Ornamental, Gooty Ornamental, Togo starburst, Antilles pink toe, curly hair, and Brazilian salmon bird eater. They are a great hobby and interesting to watch and care for.

Chuck - 2014-06-17 Hi guys, I picked my Goliath ( morticia) up from the pet store two days ago. She's very active at night, but she's just been sitting in her half full water dish all morning today. She's about a year old, can anyone explain? Thanks in advance.

steve - 2014-08-12 she is very thirsty, goliath birdeaters like to be kept a 80 degrees f, and 6 80% humidity. Good luck
marcel - 2014-03-27 I am trying to get a Goliath bird eater for my first tarantula. Would this be a good idea? I always thought it was pretty cool that a spider could get this big and I really would like to have one. The idea of a giant spider sitting on my shoulder while playing 360 sounds good. Please if anyone has any advice please comment.

pete - 2014-06-19 Hey man that's not really a good idea, they are very unpredictable and it could release hairs in our face and that would really suck. If anything you should get a rose hair tarantula they are about 5'' and extremely calm ... pete

Steven - 2014-04-20 Hey guys my bird eating tarantula is a male name Jimmy. He just got out of a Molt 2 days ago. But now I just came home to see him curled up in a sitting position. I poked him to see if he would move like always but this time he stayed still. His eyes look open and I can see his back leg moving a little. I hope he is not dying, I do not know what it could be if he just got out of a molt. Maybe stress? Or something. He has fresh water but the problem is he is curled in not moving.
Kourtney - 2013-02-28 I just got a Goliath bird eater. Ate the pet store she was beautiful and they said she was eating well that she needed to eat again in like two days. Well I offered her a little mode but she never took it. Then I found her completely submerged in her water dish and it was full of water. When she got out her legs aren't really working. Two look like they are stuck to her butt and its getting smaller. The people at the pet store said she might try to molt. I have other tarantula and none of them sat in their water bowls. It just freaking me out. I don't know if she's OK or not. Someone please help me.

Jesse_hutch - 2013-10-31 Your Birdeater may be having difficulty in shedding, particularly if the temperatures in the enclosure are not correct or if she has been out under recent stress after she has begun this process. Extreme changes in tempreature can deangerously increase stress levels so I would advise handling or irritating her, this process is a natural one and unfortunately there's not much you can do, my advice is to make sure the tempreature is correct and she has sufficient depth in her burrow, once done I would leave her to it, to minimise stress.
Mack Hodge - 2014-03-02 I thought it strange my goliath did the same thing, staying in the water dish with water in it but it was trying to molt, it went through a perfect molt yesterday...
Tait - 2013-10-05 My goliath has been in its den for a while now and hasn't been eating and not sure if it's been moving a lot at all. Just wondering what the problem is or even if there is a problem?
What's big, fast, hairy and has an attitude? The Goliath Bird-eating Spider!
