Hi,I would like to have a chameleon but I hear that they don't live too long and are expenceve. Would this be a good starter(low price, easy care) chameleon or would I be better off with a different type like the senegal chameleon? Here are the reptiles I'm taking care of:spotted turtle, garter snake, eastern ribbon snake,I took care of 3 snapping turtles, and i have a ball python who I believe is a female named snake and would like to breed her.

They say the lifespon for the Panther Chamameleon is around 5 years so I looked up the Bearded Dragon for you and their life span is about 7 - 8 years. I never had a Panther but did have the Bearded and I liked that fella. He was so neat, liked attention and would just look at me with those big eyes. They come in many colors and I loved mine. So I thought I'd pass on the info. You sure have enough experience to handle just about whatever you get --- Iguanas are really awesome and they live longer but they can get extremely large - 3 feet or more - but they come in a variety of colors and some are just so handsome. Now there lifespan can easily go 25 years.

These guys are not too hard to take care of. As long as they get frequent mistings for water they normally do fine. Bearded dragon or iguana is a better choice if you are looking for easy to care for. Savanah monitor is also a great on and tames down like a dog if given enough attention.

How old should the female be before there ready to breed? Or does it matter on size and colors that are shown. I have 3 females that are 5 to 8 months old and are all showing the colors described above. Also they are all about the same size the youngest one is actually growing faster then the others. I was just wondering what everyones opinion is on the subject. Thanks

They don't reach sexual maturity until at least 7 months. The coloration when gravid can vary, but if a female turns dark, that indicates she is not receptive to mating.

Female Panther Chameleons are able to breed at 7 months.

When I was about 5 I had 13 wild frilled chameleons (a species not mentioned on this list) constantly visiting me and becoming remarkably tame. If you can get a hold of one you will have a 1 foot long, scaley friend for a long time!

The panther chameleon doesn't recognized 'standing water' as something they can drink.  You can spray the encl;osure a couple of times a day and he will lick the drops off plants or you can get a dripper.  They see moving water dropping and that is how they get their water.  This link will take you to u tube video of a panther chameleon drinking from a dripper.  Handsome fella

I have a three month old female and I enjoy having her as a pet. Though she needs more care I don't mind, I can't wait for her to get older so I can see all the colors she will change to.

I have one Furcifer pardalis chameleon. It's just wonderful but a bit too lively when it's outside its cage. It's favourite dish is cockroaches, atleast 2 in a day! Astonishing and unexpected colors sometimes.

I have 2 of them, a male and a female. They are both wonderful pets, I could just watch them for hours. They are a bit more work than other animals but when you get into a routine it's a piece of cake and every minute is worth it. I am going to be a proud parent soon and I can't wait for my female to lay her eggs.
