We just bought an 8 year-old long hair chihuahua. He is wonderful! The only issue we are having with him is that if he is in the room with me, he barks and growls at anyone else who walks into the room. If I am not in the same room, he loves on anyone. How can we break him of this habit?

Barking is one of the most common problems reported by Chihuahua owners/ The are very defensive of their territory. The first thing you do, no matter what its age, is spend the time and energy to teach them basic obedience commands such as sit, stay, and come. Teach them one command at a time. Obedience is accomplished by speaking a command firmly to them and rewarding them by offering a treat when they obey. Once they achieve a basic obedience level, then you're will be able to work on changing the barking behavior. When they bark you can follow through with obedience training, teaching them to be 'quiet' on command. A good suggestions I've read is to also remove distractions that seem to cause them alarm, resulting in barking!

I am adopting a Belgian Malinois soon . A beautiful male . He was a Navy pup in training but went on to a breeder. So he has been trained very well. I already love him. I do plan on having him be a stud because he is not fixed and he has excellent blood lines. But no cross breeding.

my red nose pit does not pee or poop when being walked around the school path he waits till he get home and uses the back yard. Is this usual? If we travel with him is there going to be a problem?

I've had my adorable long haired chihuahua for about 3 weeks and we have really bonded. She is an awesome little traveler in the car and a perfect companion. She is 3 years old and very well trained and obedient. My only concern is that she doesn't like any hard dog food I've given her. The vet gave me some healthy samples, but she turns her nose up unless I coat it with cottage cheese. I don't think this will be good for her long term. She wants people food but I'm avoiding that habit. The vet thinks she might have some skin allergies, which restricts her diet even more. Any suggestions??

There are two different categories of allergies, internal and external. One of the most common types of internal allergy triggers are food. It can be alleviated by avoiding foods with a high gluten content, corn and 'filler' products. When choosing a dog food, the most important ingredient is should contain for your Chihuahua is meat. I have a year old male pom who is beautiful or handsom i guess. He is well behaved and does not bark when told. my vet said it was the first pom she never heard bard. he only yelp a little when he got his shots. he is playful, very cuddly and wants to be with me 24/7. He is 5.6 lbs and is exactly as the pics show. my only question is he hates dog food but loves beef, chichken, fish, some vegs and fruits. is this good or bad?

Rottweilers are usually pretty active puppies so I would be concerned as you say she is weak. A good puppy food and water should be all you initially need. If you feel she is weak, I'd get her to a vet and have her checked out. Could be worms or just sick - could be nothing but you would want to know.

Hi, I got my Ghost 6 yrs ago, I had Goldens prior. He is by far the smartest dog I've ever had, sometimes human! I can't say enough about my guy, the things he does how he acts towards me, other people and animals is uncanny. Never chewed, caused mischief, or has separation anxiety. Everyone in my town knows my dog , he's like the town pet! So happy I got him , not that my Goldens were great dogs and love them . He is another level in smarts, what he does is unbelievable. Can talk on and on but will end with, people if you want a challenge for the first two yrs, then he starts mellowing out then Writers are your dog, not a day goes by that I'm not amazed or hr gets complement , like what a gorgeous dog !

I've had a female GSP that I adored for her loyalty, but my female Weimer, is even better & more intelligent. She 'tells' you what she wants and feels. You never feel lonely with this breed. Very regimented.

You could try crate training him, as they won't soil their crate because that's where they sleep. It can help teach them control.
