I had two Tiger Oscars for about six years. They grew to about 11" and 12" length. Like your other readers said they pull out your live plants. If I could give any advise to someone that wants them, spend the money on a good heater and a excellent filter! I went through about 5 heaters because they would not leave them alone. I had a plecosomus that I got at the same time. After about 3 years they eat him for dinner so i had to do lots of water changes. My wife liked to tease them with food out side the tank and they would hit the glass. Until one day she did it with the glass cover open, big mistake. They BOTH jumped out of the tank to the floor. They were fine, I just picked them up and put them back in the tank. But that brings up another pointer that you need to make sure that you have a heavy lid or put something on it, they will hit it. To this day my wife will not mess with my babys.

We recently bought 2 oscars, one red and the other one is albino. They are a hoot! The albino will let me pet him but the other shys away. They are always playing and yes tearing up the plants and the pieces that have torn away and are floating on the top of the water they like to push around. Mine are around 10" long and we have a plecosomus (algae eater) that they like to push on and make him move. They even try to nibble on his tail. They don't get too far because he is as big as they are. I love to press my nose against the tank and the albino oscar will come up to me and start to shake his head at me and then he takes off swimming. My husband keeps trying to find ways to keep the tank thermometer straight but they keep on pushing it around until they get it lengthwise with the tank. The one kind of rock that they don't move is the small rocks you get at the beach near the ocean. That is what we started with and has worked very well for all of our fish in the last 10 years. We just take them out and clean them every now and then. The rocks are about 1" to 3" in diameter.

My Oscar prefers water temperature to be around 78-80 degrees. Below 78 degrees he becomes very lethargic and tends to stay close to the bottom. Otherwise he swims around the tank, quite happily rooting in the gravel and devouring any morsels I give him.

hi im Frank,i have two tiger oscars one albino and one regular. They eat like pigs. They are in my 55 gallon tank. I have a 55, 70, 30, 45, and 10 gallon tank. I have convicts that layed eggs and they hatched in my oscars tanks. Half of the baby convicts are gone from the oscars. my albino tiger oscar is 6 1/2' and my tiger oscar is 6'. They rip out my live plants like crazy so i dont get them anymore. they like rocky caves and rocks. to have a pair of oscars you need at least to have a 55 gallon tank. they have craps that are 2 inches long. that is what i know about oscars, i will tell you more next time

HI. WELL THE OSCAR IS PROBABLY THE BIGGEST EATER OF ALL. I HAVE 1 TIGER OSCAR WHICH IS 9" AND HE EATS A VERY LARGE AMOUNT A DAY, IN FACT IF YOU DONT FEED THEM THEY GET VERY GRUMPY AND ANY OTHER FISH COULD BECOME APART OF ITS DIET. SINCE THIS FISH GROWS VERY LARGE VERY FAST HIS WASTE WILL EXCEED TO VERY LARGE AMOUNTS, THIS FISH IS PROBABLY BEST KEPT IN A LARGE TANK,

Oscars, to me personally are fun to raise, although i have lost one due to water changes. i had 2 red oscars and 2 albino oscars, i lost a red oscar. mine are about 7 inches each in a 60 gal. tank. they do get aggressive towards the red one. their colorations are very beautiful. i would say these fishes are not for beginnners.

hi i am Rahul Patrick from New Delhi, India. I've had almost two dozen Oscars in the past one year and trust me they are the best. except discus, i have had all the so called exotic fishes. none come close to the oscars as adorable pets. right now i have five juveniles in a 70 fallon tank; ne pink, one red, two tigers, and an albino. there tank mates are two green texas chiclids, one of them being six inches long. these oscars love to eat aything especially if it is boiled chicken. i am waiting for them to grow and then would be shifting them to a new 200 gallon tank. thanks
