Alex - 2016-12-12 I just found out what my fish is finally. It is a gold severum. My problem is that it has been hitting the top of the tank for about a month. I have tried to see if it is jumping at something particular, but I have found nothing in or on top of the lid. Nothing has changed in it's environment. The only thing that I have changed is the food. I went from one pellet brand to another. But everything else is the same. It has been doing this for about three weeks now and started jumping more frequently. I have turned the lights out in the tank and still no change. I have changed the water and cleaned the water filter, still nothing. There are no obvious signs of disease. Nothing else unusual. Please help! I'm afraid that it is going to hurt itself. I have had it for about 2.5 years.

Jim - 2020-01-31 Hiya I have two big Severums I think yours banging your lid to get snails or food that has splashed up and got stuck to it mine do it on the glass don’t worry they won’t do anything that will hurt them self’s, maybe once, but won’t anymore. Hope this helps
Dana K - 2018-03-31 Can a golden severum that is in a 55 gal tank, approximately 2 years old and 4.5 inches in length have a new jack dempsey introduced into the tank? They would be the only two fish in the tank.

Anonymous - 2020-01-07 no but once the severum gets much bigger the severum and the jack dempsey can be the only one in there because severums can get over 12 inches long.
walter pierrot - 2018-08-04 I have a golden and red spotted severum in 75 G Tank with 6 Festivum Flag cichlids. to accommodate both species i do have plants 'anchored' in the bare bottom tank: Claypots filled with soil and plants covered with stones to cover the soil and add weight. works perfectly well and all are happy. of course plenty of hiding places for the festivums, but swim around a lot
senthil - 2017-09-19 My golden severum seems to be more aggressive always, as it fights with my albino tiger oscars and tinfoil barbs. Is there any remedy to stop this activity..
kim ferns - 2015-07-03 my severum cant close its mouth.as a result it cant eat.colour is fine and looks well on its body and fins. its like theres something in its mouth, iv looked but cantsee any obstructions.its been like this about four days.iv treated the tank with an antibacterial,there dosent seem to be any improvement.it trys to eat but cant close its mouth to grip the food and is so slow the other fish goble it all up befour it has a chance.can any one help. im really worried.id hate to see it starve to death.its 4 years old.help sincerely grateful kim
Adele - 2015-04-17 I have a gold severum about 5 years old and he has bare white patches where his scales have come off - mainly behind his eyes. It is getting worse. I have a 100 gallon tank. Only other fish are some gourami. Any help appreciated.

Clarice Brough - 2015-04-20 It is likely that it is getting into fights with the other fish, and gourami's will pick at another tankmate.
Vijayan nair - 2013-10-24 I had 3 golden severons which I was keeping form 1 week old. They were fine and a few months back one of them I found standing head down. I shifted him in to another tank and tried to save him but could not. Now the second one is in the same situation. But he is responding to me like whenever I go near the tank he comes for food and takes food. Swimming normal for some time and again going back to the same head standing.This time I did not change him from the main tank. My tank is 2 mtrX90 cm x 60 cm and accompanied by other fishes like discuss, scavanger, clowns, mollies etc. Can you suggest any remedy for bringing him back to normal?

CHARLES - 2015-04-03 Test your ph it may be to high try to keep it around 6. 5 tempiture around 77 f and do water changes at about every two weeks with same tempiture as your tank use declore and only maybe a 1/3 water change every two weeks don't over feed get a good wtaer test kit check your water amonia nitrites and nitrates keep only about 1/4 inch of gravel on the bottom also give some good places for the to hide
Linda - 2013-11-23 I have 2 Red Severums that are about 4 yrs old. Having a difficult time figuring out if they are male and female. The smaller more vibrant one is always digging up gravel and spitting it out to make a large hole. Lately the larger less colorful one has been staying at the bottom of the tank and does not appear to be eating. It loves earthworms- but that's all it would eat- and I was worried that it was not getting proper nutrition so I stopped buying them and got some Cichlid pellets. Also, when the larger, less colorful one swims around- the smaller one swims right over, appearing to dominate it. The smaller more colorful one rules the tank- I know we have too many fish in our 55 gal tank but can't do anything about it until we move in a few months- we keep up on water changes and try to keep the ammonia/nitrate/nitrite lowered with a chemical additive- it's the best I can do right now. I'm not sure if the larger Red Severum with pale color is sick or maybe just being dominated by the smaller one. I could swear that one time we saw eggs on the bottom of a flat surface decoration in the tank, but they disappeared the next day and we have never seen them again. When we move I plan to only have the 2 Severums in the 55 gal tank and move the others to another tank. Neither one of them is an enthusiastic eater and we've tried many varieties of food- but they are still alive so they must be eating something!

CHARLES - 2015-04-03 When in doubt about feeding try some pet store black worms rince them good in clean water prior to feeding if they don't eat them they may have a gastrole problem but i think they will love the black worms but feed other food as well for some fish after eating black worms may not want any other food also try brine shrimp from your pet store rinsr the brine shrimp you don't want to build up a salt in your aquqrium
