You know everyone keeps saying blackbelt cichlids are moderately aggressive but on YouTube some people got 1 single male in a tank to make it like they are extremely aggressive. By when I say I'm putting a single male blackbelt cichlid in with a male (LARGEMOUTH BASS) then people want to say blackbelt cichlids are not that aggressive. WHICH IS IT.

so a little back story. I have a 265 gallon aquarium that i have 2 12 inch oscars a 10 inch and 7 inch jaguar cichlids that are a breeding pair a pacu and 6 silver dollars. well i wanted to add more fish so i set up my 30 gallon aquarium and put in there a Texas cichlid 2 lemon oscars a golden nugget pleco and a black ghost knife fish. well they were fine when i went to bed. i wake up this morning to find the Texas with the black ghost knife in his mouth swallowed about half way. so me being pissed off ( mind you the Texas is about 3-4 inches as well as the black ghost was too) because i got the Texas for free and the black ghost was 20 bucks. i took the Texas and threw him into the 265 gallon aquarium with the big guys basically survival of the fittest i suppose either he will survive or be dinner himself. MY other fish have all grown together since they were an inch big and have never once been fed live fish, so i assume they will not eat him maybe bully him out of their territory but not eat. ( its a new set up for the 265 so they really haven't got a territory down pack yet.) I may return him if he makes it through the work day till i get home tonight. i don't want to deal with more fish death due to eating each other. what do you guys think? if i kept it and the Texas got bigger do you think he will be an issue among the other tank mates?

I had a juvenile jaguar about 2-2 1/2 inch in a tank of about 145 liter with an Oscar, green terror, an ornate bichir, convict, panda parrot, 4 silver dollars and a pleco. I know I am going to land myself in trouble later when they grow up. Now the Oscar is dominant but no fighting had erupted so far except when the convict/ panda parrot couple is spawning. This is one of my six 145 liter tanks. All tanks are fully occupied and each has its own problem. Blame it on my over-enthusiasm in collecting cichlids.

I did not do what a responsible owner should do, and decided to keep 2 texas cichlids in a 2 gallon tank. One killed the other one, but the one that is left has been living for...well 8 years now. 8 years seems long to me, especially since I kept it in a 2 gallon tank. Nevertheless, I love this fish!

My name is Stephaun. I am 13 years old and I love to keep cichlids. I currently have 3 tanks. One 75 gallon that houses one male Red Devil, also a 300 gallon tank with one Red Devil, two Flowerhorn, one Buttikoferi, one Clown Knife fish, and two large Plecostomus. The last but not least tank I have is a 55 gallon tank with two breeding pairs of Convict Cichlids. I love cichlids and I will continue to love them forever.

I bought a pink Convict male and a Zebra(stripped) female. within a week I had about 40 babies. Its been about 2 months and some of my babies are about ! half to 2 inches long. One fish especially sticks out from the rest i call him D-Bo( from the movie FRIDAY) He is a monster. Im just trying to fing my best femals and males to try and start the process over again in a seperate tank. All my babies were born with Stipes. I was a lil Mad but some are very light in color while other like D-Bo are daarkish. How can i tell the difference in males and females besides their size. i think i have some big females too and i want to choose them for breeding. They all have long Dorsal fins and cant make out their underbelly fins yet. Any one out there to HELP! Time is running out.

if you look the ones that have long dorsol fins are males the ones that have a slight of a pointed fin is a male.
  • Wolfman🐺 - 2020-02-28
Well if any of them get red on the belly is female if it doesn't and it just has long fin trail its male πŸ˜πŸ‘

Convict cichlids are a nasty cichlid. Their bite hurts and they hurt my expensive and beloved fish. They are colorful but dangerous to the lives of other fish.
