my family found a baby red squirrel mushroom hunting when I was a kid and we took it home and raised it. after about 8 years and all grown up he ran off one day to explore and he was gone for a couple days. we was driving down the road and he seen us and ran towards our car and he was killed. hands down the best pet ever and I've always wanted another american red squirrel. if anyone has any I would be very interested in having one again.

I’m interested in adopting a female eastern grey squirrel. I rescued a 2-3 week old whom fell through my roof during a storm last year . Was an amazing experience. She now lives in my backyard happy and healthy .

Saved one of these from my Science teacher of all people. It had been in a miskept tank, and looked rather dull when I received it. Survived a walk home from school, and placed into my 20 gallon planted with Tiger Barbs. It recovered very well and saw its gray turn into gold within a few days, the barbs left him alone as he was 4 inches and they were 2. Lived out his last months in a nice planted tank, so I'm glad he found his way to my tank. Very forgiving and hardy fish indeed.

We have a bonded pair of Ruby Macaws.  They are mating but as of this try the eggs aren't fertile yet.  Time will tell.  Is a Ruby X a Ruby still a Ruby?  Or another name?

Me too, I have pair ruby macaw and 3 times the eggs are not fertile yet . first time 5 eggs , second time 2 eggs and third time 3 eggs . I am producing many kinds of parrots like ( Blue and Gold, Scarlet , Yellow napped amazon , blue fronted amazon , Yellow crowned amazon and African Grey ) , To be honest , the harder one is the ruby and now It has been 8 months since I got it but no fertile eggs :(-

We are having the same problem. Other macaws are laying fertile eggs, but for some unknown reason, the ruby eggs have been infertile, despite all factors being identical for our other macaws. Did your situation ever change positive?
  • Valaya Choudhary - 2020-04-28
Ight guys time to teach you some middle school science. I hybrid cannot reproduce. A ruby macaw really isn't a separate species just a hybrid. Therefore it cannot reproduce.

I have a red cap Oranda and when i looked at her today, It looks like either something ate the red cap off her head or it rotted off. Has anyone dealt with anything like this - I gave by weekly water changes and take special care of my fish so I have no idea how on earth this could have happened. I Recently put in an anti-algae chemical but I’ve never seen her in such bad shape and I’m very worried. Any advice would be greatly appreciated

This red cap is called a wen. As beauriful as it is and gets more beautiful as the fis ages, I can have its own problem. In its tine folds and crevices where bacteria can thrive as well as fungus. To avoid this I would be careful to give the water in the tank top priority. You should be using a canister filter and water changes 1 at least once a week. Having spent years raising the beautiful Discus which requires very pristine water for survival needing several water changes weekly depending on the its condition.. \I would first quaratine tank and treat it with one of the many treatments on the market. I use

I've had my two bleeding heart tetras for about a year now. I chose the hearts because of how beautiful they are, they immediately caught my eye! When I got them, they were planned to be tank mates with my female betta. They all surprisingly got along, but recently my female betta passed. My bleeding heart tetras, panda and pocky, seemed kinda sad and wouldn't swim around after my betta died, so I went out and got 5 neon tetras. everything seemed fine the first day, but each day after, one would disappear. Only one neon tetra survived and it's in a different tank now. But after I rearranged Panda and Pocky's tank they are more active now! Their current tank mates are 6 ghost shrimp and one snail. They are very nice to the shrimp, thankfully. These guys are very beautiful and relaxing to watch. They're aggressive to smaller fish, but they haven't hurt any shrimp so far!!

I have many exotic pets. They enjoy our interactions during feedings. I give them all large cages with live plants and the best possible environment. The less I handle them the happier and more comfortable they become. Why does every pet have to be scratched behind the ear or be taught to say 'polly wants a cracker'. Don't say it's for anybody's safety.

Years ago I raised several cockatoos from the egg. It's a 24/7 commitment but well worth it. I am very interested in a hyacinth macaw egg. I had a pair many years ago and absolutely loved them. I never did get them to breed them before and had to sell them due to a divorce settlement.

Most parrots but cockatoos more than any others NEED attention. They crave attention and demand it from their humans. They are very social and to them you are their whole world. You are their flock, their mate, their friend. They are about equivalent to a 3 year old human chikd in their need to be with their human. You can spend time with your Ella while she is on her perch and you share your supper with her - or your breakfast. You can spend time with her watching TV. You need to spend time with her providing attention and playing. If she doesn't get the attention she is going to pluck, she will keep screaming and will probably be very depressed. You need to decide to devote the time for Ella - for the next 50 years or so --- or to find a suitable home for her. She is young, tame and wants to be loved and there should be no problem finding a new family for her but she can't be stuck in a cage without socialization and companionship. It would be like putting yourself in solitary confinement. Ella knws you are home and will make big noises to get your attention. She is calling her mate her flock. They just can't take isolation.
  • Anonymous - 2011-11-20
    Take her out.
  • Jessica - 2020-04-27
Hi I am not sure what you mean by ' I have grown up' That statement would usually be followed by you saying that undoubtedly you realise that her being out of cage ONLY 3 hours is not nearly enough and that you have started to spend more time with her. Here it seems exactly the opposite and I'm seeing a bit of has as to you finding or wanting to find the time to spend with your bird. Cockatoo are extremely sensitive and very much like humans when it comes to needing to be interacted with and feeling the touch and love of there owner in order to live a happy productive life. It seems like you have a bird that does want that interaction of a human and companionship which is already a big hurdle a good advance in the right direction. If you do not give her the time and attempt she craves she may actually regress and will not online one depressed but will have to learn all over again that touch and human companionship is a good thing.A parrot is a lifetime commitment and absolutely should not be a quick decision just because you see one and see how cute or smart they cannot does not mean they automatically come like that.they have bad behaviours like any other animal and since they are so smart are easily imprinted on and sadly affected by neglect,as well as definitely need Alot more time than a hamster .you cannot just leave a parrot in the corner with some toys and bring him. Or her out when it suits you. This will definitely cause depression and even aggression that will come very noticeably in the form of plucking and evening due to resentment. It is not fair or even practical for somebody to own a parrot before doing your research and prepare your self for both good and bad . The thing is that parrots are wild animals and they are going to always be instinctively that.thereis no such thing as a bad parrot just BAD OWNERS. You may have just impulsively bought this bird and have not been correctly educated and now you have your hands full. Right now it sounds like your bird still wants human interaction and is wanting to be loving so it will be extra easy to find someone who has experience with large birds to take in this one.please do yourself and this bird a favour and find a home in which he or she will thrive in. Don't feel bad about doing what's best for the animal.nobody can call you a bad owner if you give the bird up for the sake of its happiness but if you decide to keep this bird and do not find adequate time and education to give it a better quality of life that is when you can be considered a bad person
