"I have had my red-tailed catfish for over a year now. We call him "Catty". I have him living in a 6 foot long 150 gallon tank with 4 Oscars. Once or twice a month we drain half of the tank and put fresh water in to help keep the tank clean. When my boyfriend and I first got them the Oscars were bigger than the catfish. Now they have grown a great deal but it seems like the catfish is growing much faster and much bigger. He also eats more than the Oscars. We feed him twice a day and his diet mainly consists of large feeder fish(goldfish) and chicken. We are also trying alternatives to his diet because we are realizing his large appetite. We have tried pork and small pieces of potatoes but he doesn't like that. So we are trying other options. We noticed his large appetite when he ate 4 of my apple snails and tried to attack our pleco. We have always hand fed him since he was small because the Oscars used to take his food away from him because he was smaller than them. Now it's totally different. He is huge! But we still hand feed our baby. We also have a large log that we found in the pet store because we realized that the catfish loved to hide especially when it was light out. He always swims around at night or as soon as you shut the lights off in the tank. The log is sort of his safe place when he is not eating. They all remind me of dogs. Everytime you walk into the room the Oscars wag there tails and get happy and the catfish comes right out of his log and comes right up to the top of the tank waiting to get his food. It really makes you smile. "
