We just bought a undulate trigger fish without looking at it’s deadly lifestyle and it went into a 4 foot tank with a balloon puffer fish, dog face puffer fish and 2 foot snowflake eal and we thought the 4” trigger would be fine with two 6” puffers but we were so very wrong it bit the dogface puffer with intent to kill and took over the balloon puffer’s home and as soon as he went for a nibble on the balloon puffer my amazing eal hit him away after that we put the “nice” trigger in quarantine.We are returning him in the morning.:(

I'm wondering if I can get one or two Niger triggers for my 55gal? I have a snowflake, an African red starfish and two tomato clowns. Does anyone think it's safe please answer fast I would like to know. Thanks.

Been keeping marine fish for well over 35 years and my current fish is a Picasso Trigger I named Pablo (sorry, couldn't resist). I bought him for my youngest son's 12th birthday. In a few months my son will be 30 and Pablo is still going strong! I'm guessing he was at least 1 year old when I bought him, so that makes him 18, going on 19! He has outlived a polka-dot grouper and a medium sized black lion (he started nipping at the fins of the Lion, so I took the Lion back). He has lived alone for about 12 years now and has an attitude and a half. Knows members of my family and will act like my Dachshunds when it's dinner time. Does 75Gal wind-sprints till I drop in some food. Still has his original color, is quite large and hates it when I do maintenance! Has gone after the sponge, steel scraper and on 3 occasions, my hand drawing a little blood each time. Even with all of that, I wouldn't trade him for anything. Best fish I could have ever hoped to have - When his time is up, he will get a funeral with honors.....

What a wonderful and fun fish you have! We have a similar fish experience... but it's with a Maroon Clown though at only about 25 years, and its companion is a Haddon's Carpet Anemone.

Picasso Triggers are great fish to keep. i have a picasso and a bluethroat trigger in my saltwater reef (yes, i have soft corals, anemones, and polyps with them) and they are doing great! they never bother any of the other fish or corals, and always come to greet you at the front of the tank. they are very herdy, and should mention that i am a kid, and this is the first saltwater tank i set up. they are great, and i would recommend them to anyone who wants a smart, hardy, and peaceful saltwater fish.

Who says you can't keep triggers together. I have two Picassos, an Undulate, a Clown, a Nigger and an Indian Trigger in my tank. They all live happily together without any issues. At one stage one of my tangs had an issue with my clown trigger but I took the tang out for a week and this resolved the issue.

Just got my first Clown Trigger! My local fish store had a little one. I talked the guy into giving it to me for $20! I dont think they will be in buisness long! :)

Hes got amazing color. I thing he will be the best Ive ever seen when he gets bigger!

They get pretty big though so make sure that you have a big enough tank and know what you're doing with it.

I have a clown triggerfish, a picasso triggerfish, and a panther grouper in a 10 gallon tank and they are doing fine so far! They never fight and when they do it seems they are just playing. They are great fish!

I hope you're joking... that's just wrong and incredibly cruel. None of those fish belong in a 10g tank! By now, I'm guessing all three would have either died from ammonia poisoning or killed each other... do a little research before buying fish; what you're doing is called animal cruelty.

These fish should never be placed in a 10 gallon tank. This tank is way too small. They definitely would fight.

You need to do a lot more research into what you are buying and what its needs are.
Saying you have had one of these for ages (7 months) is talking rubbish.... they can live anything up to 25yrs. get to 20" and become more and more aggressive as they get older. As they mature the become very territorial, and will fight and kill any other fish in the tank. They need at least a 200 gal Tank. And they need mental stimulus.
Learn before you buy. As you are just wasting your money and killing a pet.

I nano tank can be used for months to quarantine new large fish, I read an extra large angelfish or trigger fish need a thirty gallon. I tried it, they left out you need flow (circulation pumps), and skimmers rated for 150 gallons, I did twice that. Anything 5-7 inches can't survive in a 10 gallon (large to extra large salt water fish). I pet store in CT sold me a show size queen angelfish once in a 10 or 20 gallon, they where about to push it into a net, I told them they have to use a large jar or bucket (they seemed dumb and dumber). The type of fish is not the point, its the size, allot of the comments don't make any sense, you should post something meaningful and useful to other people based on experience and positive results. I just had to put a 4 inch Blue-lined trigger fish in a 10 gallon, it was attacking everything in its path, that will change quickly, its hard to get three fish the same size when ordering on the web, never happens, or the order is partially filled.

I have a niger triggerfish and when I first got him was doing fine eating flake food at the top of the water swimming around to say he was a regular fish and I had a happy tomato clown in as well tomato clown hurt him self got popeye and died. I had removed him from tank, clown that is, and now my tigger is sad isn't hiS regular self maybe getting some new friends will help ? Any ideas ? Thanks for any responses

I also had taken a water sample in to my locale Pet store and nitrate they said was high but not high enough to do harm and salt level was high so I fix those problems and to no avail. Never had so many problems with this can anyone help ?

Some aquarists prefer to keep the salt level low, as low as 1.017 ppm. This doesn't usually harm the fish and it has the benefit of making it more difficult for more harmful things to flourish in your tank.
