I first got to know about the Doberman in the mid sixties in Scotland. A boyfriend and his dad used to breed the Doberman & the German Shepherd. They would train them for Security and Police work. They would take them to factories as guard dogs for nights. After coming to South Africa in 1972 my husband and I decided to get a Doberman, a bitch called Susie, we eventually after searching high and low decided to breed her. She was a gentle dog when needed but a great guard dog and would never leave my side. Since Susie I have had 8 Dobermans, the latest 2 being Duke & Apollo, Duke is now 15 years old, he is the longest living Doberman that I have ever had. He is going deaf and is short sighted and suffers a little from arthritis, but before this, he has never been ill. He has been a loyal companion and friend that I will miss dearly when he goes over the rainbow bridge. Apollo is 4 years, and Duke has trained him well, they are both my constant companions, even sleeping in my bedroom on their own beds. I have had numerous breeds of dogs, but although all were loved, the Doberman has stolen my heart and I would pick one over any other breed. Oh by the way they are great with children, I have had 6 children and now have 8 grandchildren and 1 great grandchild.

I used to have a Japanese Akita named Sato Kuma, meaning 'sugar bear'. She wasn't full akita. Sato was an akita/lab mix. Her mother,Sky, was a Japanese Akita. When Sato was about six a mutt jumped our fence and the fence surrounding Sato's dog-run and got her pregnant. My mom came out and caught him and called animal control. We placed all the pups except the smallest one, a male we called Kuma San, or 'little bear'. We only kept him because the girl who had owned Sato's mother wanted a direct descendant out of Sky. Well at the we were living in Denver and were in the process of moving. So we boarded Sato and Kuma at a friend's. We specifically said do not remove Sato's collar and keep the gate closed at all times. She didn't do either of those things. I think she was stolen. Normally Sato wouldnt follow anyone other than her people. She would, however, follow her puppy anywhere. I'm gonna try to get another Japanese Akita and name it Sato Kuma the second.

Zeus is a rescue puppy. We were told he is part Rottie and part German Shepherd.  However, I'm not sure if that's the case. He kind of resembles the Rottweiler and I guess I can see German Shepherd, however, he looks to me to be more of a terrier. I have searched all over the internet to try to find a puppy that looks like him so I can try to determine his mixed breed. I still want to keep him, no matter what, but let's face it, every dog owner wants to know what breed their dogs are. Zeus has a very special place in our hearts. He was found in a dumpster tossed away like a piece of trash at the age of 5 weeks. I guess he culd have been the runt, or possibly stolen from his litter, or just the 'unwanted or unsellable' puppy. But, to us he is our little baby boy, and an explosive burst of energy. He has all the active traits of a Rottweiler puppy.  At first we were just going to take him and get him to the vet to make sure he was healthy. We were going to find him a forever home and trust me numerous people wanted him, but we were so picky as to who he would go to, and that's when we decided that we were so picky because he already had found his forever home, and that was right here with us. Does anyone have any suggestions as to what breed he may be?

He sounds simply darling! As far as breed, without knowing where he came from, it is just a guess. The rescue's guess is about as good as anyone's.

Thank you for your feed back. We actually got him from the police dept the same day they found him. We took him straight to the vet. He has gained almost two pounds in a week and a half. He is doing great and fitting in very well with the rest of the family!

He looks like a German Rottie because of his snout, color and markings, but his hair is really long and he has brown on his ears. That would suggest a mix of something else... I think you need to wait until he gets older to see what characteristics come out from his parents. You're lucky to have him no matter his mix. Rotties are great dogs... I have one and he's the best! Congrats!

He is a Rottsheperd.. long hair or not. German Shepherds also come in long hairs, medium length and short hair. I come from a family of Professional German Shepherd Breeders/Show Dogs/Obedience Training... Registered and Club. His paws are huge which suggests exactly what you were told... he is a German Shepherd X Rottie

I just thought it would be good to tell you that you should add that boxers are more likely to get cancer then most dogs are. They are VERY athletic dogs so should go on walks multipul times a day. Thank you

yes that is very true and good quality breeders with good blood lines have a lot less problems with cancer and other diseases

There is no age that they start. Really depends on the dog.  He may not have found a reason to bark yet.

When he needs to protect you, bring your attention to something or feels a threat. That is the only time mine barks and he's 5! :o)

We just adopted a Mastiff/Great Dane mix.we did a 2 week trial time and he weighed 92 pounds and 2 weeks later he is 96 pounds. He is only a year and a half old. He has a couple things we need to work on like barking and protecting us from those mean killer bunnies and squirrels in our back yard. He chases them with me attached! He is a wonderful addition to our family.

Can a male dog get aggressive???

Yes, an unneutered male can become aggressive and hard to manage. They usually require a very experienced dog owner who can maintain discipline. Neutering males helps to reduce aggression from developing.
