The next moring while working outside, my free range chickens were very amused by chasings something. my arrival found a small tiny baby gray squirrel. i distracted my chix to some food in another part of the yard. hope momma squirrel would come claim her babe. He just rolled up in a little ball and waited. after several hours of checking on this lttle guy, he was still there. also ahawk had spotted him. I knew then he needed help. researching... he is now during well on puppy esbilac being bottle feed. his lil teeth are comming in. becoming more active, i have become his climbing tree. up and down and around and around. he is th cutest thing. loves to sleep in my shirt pocket.can any one give me helpful suggestionsl fffff.him typing.

What a great story and a cute little guy. I've never kept one of these squirrels, but if you read further down through the comments, there are several really good ones that talk about taking care of these little guys.

I am looking to adopt a baby red, grey, or black squirrel before the end of April, 2015. I live on the East side of Cleveland, OH. and would be willing to travel up to 2 to 3 hours to get one. That would be the distance from Cleveland to Columbus, OH. Please email me with name and contact number.

Hi everyone..I need help trying to figure out what may be ailing my pet squirrel ( squiggles). I will start with a little about his back ground..My husband rescued him from a hawks mouth when he was about 5 days old, the hawk damaged his back right leg so he will not be a candidate for release. When he was around 3 weeks old he got MBS , once we figured out what it was & changed his diet he got better , then started loosing his hair around his backside & had a sore ..we treated him for mange with neem oil which has seemed to cure it. He is now 6 months old & all of a sudden he has started acting strange..He is laying on his babydoll in the bottom of his cage & wont eat. He is drinking excessively but will not eat. Do any of you have any idea what could be causing this? Also he had something that resembled oatmeal on the side of his mouth...Is this vomit? Please help.

That doesn't sound too good. My first thought would be to check the area to see if there are any exotic pet or wildlife veterinarians. You could also try and contact a local zoo and see what they recommend.

Mindy hi my name is chris and I hate to hear that your squirrel is sick. I would first treat for worms that could be the problem. I'm just wondering what you are feeding him. One thing you can't give them is the food that you eat. No snap peas. Cauliflower, broccoli, and hazel nuts are good for them and fruit. But if you would ask me I would get him to a vet as soon as possible. So please keep me informed because I love my squirrel sammy he is the best pet I ever had. So good luck. And I hope that this was helpful.

Well acorn season is in full swing and I've been gathering them like crazy. The love of my life Chippers who will be 15 years old in April next year just loves acorns or more accurately the grubs inside the acorns. All I do at this time of year is collect acorns for her. The green ones I freeze for her, and the brown ones I set out in an underbed box and wait until the grubs hatch out which they which they do by the hundreds when you stir up the acorns. Chippers dives into her dish and I don't think she pauses long enough in her munching to breathe. After a grub comes out of the acorn i keep the acorn because they often have three or four grubs in each acorn. After several weeks when no more grubs appear the acorns are thrown out because after a grub eats it from the inside out they're no good anymore
