Paige - 2014-08-25 My Holland Lop bunny Chip is the cutest bunny in the world. He is as bad as he is cute. He is sweet and gentle but also a biter. But he is still a good bunny. We love him sooooooo much. My bun bun is black and white and furry and soooooo adorable.
I've had the pleasure of sharing my home with bunnies for the past 20 years and currently have four, one of which is a beautiful light gray, spunky Holland Lop named Samson. Not one bunny has ever once had a hairball (and they certainly shed quite a bit) and they are happy and healthy. The best advice I can offer is to feed these darling creatures an abundance of hay as long as it's Timothy as it's low in protein (Oxbow is the best company out there to order hay from...it's incredibly high quality and smells unbelievably fresh...once you've tried it it's hard to go back to the usual store bought brands). The rabbits appreciate it tremendously and it is now considered very good practice by many rabbit savvy vets and rescuers to give rabbits unlimited hay daily, again as long as it's Timothy. Supplementing alfalfa or other hays in every now and then is fine but Alfalfa is too high in protein. Also check out rabbitcare.org.

Dina - 2014-06-23 I feel kinda silly about this but I feel the need to share because I am still grieving over our loss of a family member. We just lost our beloved family member, a holland lop rabbit named, LeiLei. We had her for 3 wonderful years. I personally think she is one of the rarest, most beautiful lop bunny anyone could ever ask for. She was mostly brown but had a bit of gray and white fur. She had a white, diamond-shape fur on top of her head; white nose; 3white paws & 1brown, left paw; & the most gorgeous, blue & brown eyes. She was a real chubby one even when we first got her & she was supposedly only a few wks old. I have never seen a bunny so smart. She knew when it was time to feed. She instantly knew what to do with a potty bin though she just came from a show case with bedding all over & no particular toilet bin for her at the store. She was so patient that she knew when it was time to come out of her crib and go to the yard as well as coming back inside the house after an afternoon in the yard. She knew well how to call out to her sister Lionhead bunny, LooLah, and encourage her to go in. She loved to roam around a lot and would always try to push the doors open to any room that she wants to explore. She loved playing with the broom. Everytime I had to sweep the floor she would try to come after the broom and stop it from moving around, oh that was so much! Of course she also knew when to stop. She's also very expressive as she could squeal the loudest whenever LooLah kept bugging her. She wasn't much into kissing like LooLah was but she surely knows how to show us some love whenever she'd let us hold her for awhile like a baby. When she got hurt once she cried with real tears and that nearly broke my heart. How I miss her so much :'( I am in tears as I wrote this & each time I thought of her I feel like bursting into more tears. Losing her is like losing a child, and as a mother I feel like I lost a big part of me when passed away. I will never find one like her & she will always be the only one, true LeiLei in our hearts. Thank you LeiLei for the 3 beautiful yrs you spent with us and for the beautiful children you gave us. We love you so much & we will love and care for your children, LooLah, and her children, too. I wish someday I can see you again. I love you forever & always LeiLei. Rest in peace my darling baby.

Holland _Lop_1 - 2003-10-20 I had 2 holland lops and they bred. Im thinking of getting another one and also trying a dutch! From the Hollands we only got 1 survivng baby but they are THE BEST RABBIT EVER!! I shouuld know seeing as I have kept 7 different rabbits. If you are trying to decide on a breed you have to buy a Holland lop!!!!

Annie - 2013-04-05 Actually I'm a crazy fan of holland lops! But I still have to tell you.:D It's harmful for Holland lops to breed, really really harmful. And the possibility for bunnies to survive is extremely low. Especially for us amateurs. Please separate them in different cages and cherish them.You can choose every kind of lops if you like, but for lops, they have no choice.

I recommend Holland lops above all other kinds of rabbits as pets. They are the sweetest creatures and are so cute! I loved my rabbit Ginger very much.

tammy - 2013-02-20 I had a holland lop. Mine was a family member. I cry every day. He died and i am still confused why. We had him 8 yrs 5 mos. from someone else and don't know how old he really was. How old was yours and what did it die from?
Hannah - 2014-02-14 You are extremely lucky to have had a rabbit that lived to 8 years, mine died at four years old. I can tell you cared for your bunny immensely and I am as well very sad that yours died. I know it isn't a different amount of pain you feel about your rabbit since he lived longer, but I am glad that it got an extra four years to be happy on earth then in bunny heaven.
Hannah - 2014-02-14 My four year old white holland lop (with blue eyes) passed away about three weeks ago. Her name was Bella! I got her when I was ten and she has been such a joy over the years. I would walk home from school and I would go through my backyard to her hutch and pet her and cuddle her. She was always there for me and I was so sad that she left me so early. She had become thin over a short period of time so we decided to take her to the vet. They told us to give her some medicine and we did because maybe it was an infection (something about the stomach because she wasn't pooping). About a week later she wasn't doing any better so my mom was going to take her to the vet with my dad. I spent a lot of time with her over that week and cuddled her whenever I got the chance. I knew she was in pain and my parents went to the vet without me but told me there was a high chance that she would have to be euthanized because she was suffering (she could barely walk anymore:( ) I was so upset and didn't realize it was the end so I didn't say a full goodbye and that was it. She is gone forever and I miss her so much. I want her back so bad and every time I go outside by her hutch I cry. She wasn't like any other rabbit because she loved to be held and cuddled and loved to eat and play and run around in the grass and she was the cutest rabbit ever! I looked up so many times how old they would live and I was absolutely positive she would live up to at least eight years old because she was so healthy! I guess it never turned out that way and I miss her like crazy. R.I.P Bella

Erm - 2013-12-05 I was wondering if you might be able to help me. My 3yr. old Holland lop has runny eyes. It has been going on for about a month and seems to have gotten worse. They are getting goopy. Plus looks like she is starting to lose some hair in the corner of her eyes. Is this normal due to the cold and the heater on? She is a house bunny. Is there something I can do to stop the runny eyes? Thank you for any help.

Clarice Brough - 2013-12-10 Runny eyes are a signal that a visit to a veterinarian is in order. Rabbits are generally healthy but can be prone to eye problems, often a bacterial infection or sometimes 'snuffles', which is a respiratory problem. For any eye problems, it is best to take it to a vet for diagnosis and treatment.
Marie - 2012-07-22 Hi Charlie sorry to bother youu again. I have the beautiful Holland Lop Bunny she is about 5 to 7 mos old. We went on vacation for a week and left her with family friends who raised bunnies she was well taken care of and I wrote down her whole schedule. We picked her up yesterday and she won't let us hold her and If we do she's biting like crazy and peeing and pooping like crazy on us. This is not normally what she does to us peeing yes. Does she just have to get use to these surrounding again and us or could there be something wrong? We did bring back a lot of gifts for her. Also I have bought her many rope chew toys and she ends up eating them. We tried the Apple wood sticks and other bunny wood toys she won't bite them. Charlie Roche - 2012-07-22 Hi how's it going. Sounds like your little one has come into puberty - a teenager with hormonal problems. She would have achieved puberty around this age regardless of where she was but the scent of other bunnies/babies and boys is a definite signal. One teen is fine but a bunch together gets interesting. I would suggest that you have your bunny spayed for best pet results. Hormonal problems just no fun. Probably nothing wrong but is it possible that she could be pregnant? Stuff happens but otherwise just puberty. Enjoy - fun isn't it. Daughter came to my house with her favorite bunny and so did my grandson. Two different breeds and they had fun and they had babies. I got blamed for this and I didn't do it.

I live in NY so I am still looking for referrals I dont want to take her just to anyone. Charlie I was told that is shortens her life if we have her spayed is that true because she is our baby and part of our family. It scares me at the thought of having her put under I have fears something bad will happen and me and my daughter cannot handle this. Now whether getting pregnant shortens the life so spaying lenghthens it, I am not sure. Yes, it is hard to find a vet that does exotics and actually one that does it and just didn't take a course for the weekend. You might try contacting Fish and Game or Animal Control as they might know (usually do) a good vet. Good luck - and enjoy.

Snow loves watching the Yankee game she will sit and watch the whole thing on my husband lap or mine or my daughter. Rebecca Bartels - 2013-09-24 When I go on vacation, I leave my Holland lop at my house, but have someone come over twice a day to bunny sit (make sure he has food, water, hay, clean litter box, and his daily greens). since he is house trained (no cage or hut, just roams around the house freely). Every time I come home, he is extremely mad at me. He will hop around thumping and growling, dumping his food and hay all over the place. After a few days of being back, he is back to his normal self.

sherryp - 2013-08-22 I have a Holland lop, his stool has been loose off and on for two weeks. His fur is white but his legs and down by his tail is brown. How can I get his fur back white again? I have given him a bath once a week and let him soak but it didn't help.

Jasmine Brough Hinesley - 2013-08-22 Is it diarrhea? If it's diarrhea you will want to clear that up first. Keep the cage very clean and give very few fresh greens until the stools are looking more solid. Continue giving him baths as well. Hope that helps!
