I bought a hamster for my daughter 6 days ago. Today she gave birth to 3 babies! She has thrown one out of the nest. I phoned the pet shop and they told me to keep them for 3 weeks and they will take them . Should they sell pregnant hamsters and not tell the customer they are pregnant??

hi,my name is evelyn and i started out with 2 dwarf hamsters(sugar and cinnamon). 3months later we discovered they were male and female and,of course, they had 6 babies. 2 white, 2 grey and 2 fawn. I kept them all. went to the petstore and adopted 3 more 2 teddy bear and 1 dwarf. shortly after 2 teddy bear hamsters had 10 babies. unfortunately, 5 died the next day and that made me really sad. Cause i spent all night, literally, trying to sasve the runt of the litter. Before i knew it i had a total of 21 hamsters. So, in order to keep my sanity, i adopted out 19 and kept 3. It was very hard maintaining their cages, but it was hard for me to let go of them. like right now i have my favorite hamster trying get on my keyboard. I love them to death and they have their own personality. My children interact with Cali, Nemo and Meana daily and Cali wakes up with the children; eat their breakfast and goes back to sleep until they come home from school. Shes never bitten them and shes very calm. Thank you for letting me share my story.

Hi,
My name is Cali and whoever Kitsune is, can help you with your hamster. As you said, your hamster has been climbing and chewing on its cage. This is perfectly normal. One reason could be that, your hamster is wanting to sharpen its teeth. The solution is simple, you need to give it some wooden chew toys. These are very easy to find, they are sold at many pet stores(best found at Petsmart). The second reason could be that it is hungry. Make sure you are feedind it a good amount of food. Also you should give it fruits and veggies often. The last thing that it could be doing is just familiarizing itself with the cage. No need to worry. If you need more information, go to this website, it really helped me:russiandwarfhamsters.tripod.com

Hope it helps.,

I got a syrian hamster called alfie 2 months ago. He is so playful and he loves his ball. When I got him he was tiny. I got him my 9th birthaday. He loves peanuts. I have taught him to stand. He is so curious. I recommend them to first time pet keepers. I love this website, I go on it everyday! Thank you Dr Jungle!
