Tom - 2020-07-19 I have a zebra moray that is currently about 2'. He has been doing great and, a hungry mouth (he will come out and, eat daily. In the past week and, a half he has quit eating and, seemed to lay to one side when he swam around the rocks to change direction he would actually rotate his head to the other side and, his body would fallow as he swam. The past few days he hasn't hardly moved at all. Today he is laying with his head upside down and I noticed he has what looks to be prolapsed membranes (the ones on top of his head not the front nostrils) anyone have any experience with this? We have been doing WCs every week of 20%and, increased the water flow on circulation pumps.

Jackie - 2020-10-09 I AM HAVING THE EXACT SAME PROBLEM! I'm so surprised that someone else is having the same issue w/ theirs! My Zebra Steiped Moray Eel is about 2 1/2 to 3 feet long. I've had him for about 4 months now and my Eel developed his nasal cavity issue about 2 months ago. The employee at my preferred fish store told me he's never seen this before. He is EXTREMELY KNOWLEDGEABLE in his work & I COMPLETELY trust his judgement. But, again he's never seen this happen before. He said to do 20% water changes every other day until all my Nitrates, Nitrates & Ammonia levels are zero. (And keep the pH level stable also) I'm getting there slowly but surely. I've still got a little ways to go before my levels are zero. But my EELS inflammation has gotten bigger. It looks like 2 pink balls of chewed gum or pom-poms kinda on his head. Is that what your Eels nostrils look like? Thank you. I hope we can help each other figure this out. Jackie S

Sidney Bragg - 2019-07-27 I bought my zebra Marie Eel about five days ago he sticking his head up out of the coral but he is not moving around the Tank he eats well when I put food into the tank for him he comes up and eat some food so that’s not a problem how long do you think it will be before he starts moving around the tank I have a few fish in the tank I’ve got some angel fish and I have some tangs as well is that a problem what do you guys think

sarah - 2015-03-23 Take your clown out and put him in quarantine. I had a snowflake for awhile and if he tried to eat something in the tank sooner than later it would be dead. After him killing 10+ fish I bought a second snowflake eel, they were both around 16 inches long and my first eel ate my second. The water got contaminated with chunks of eel, I couldn't get it all cleaned out and my first eel died from the poisoned water.

That weekend I purchased a new moray eel which I need help identifying. He is about 12-15 inches long at the present time, he has a chocolate brown head and his body is beige color with horizontal brown stripes running from his backbone to his belly. He regularly eats silver-sides I don't know what his species is can you help me please
Manuel - 2014-04-14 Last year for Father's Day my daughter gave me this little black with white stripes fish, about 2' long. I didn't know that was a zebra eel, today is about 12' long and still growing.

I don't want him to kill her but I don't want to get rid of him I'm going to purchase a 30 gal tank this week. Please help, thanks.

Rob - 2008-06-09 I got one of these guys a week ago. I can't get him to eat. Tried raw shrimp, silversides, ghost shrimp, and rosy reds. I'm gonna try to find some little blue crabs. Other than the feeding problems, make sure you have a nice weight on the tank lid. Mine got out the FIRST night!

mayday - 2010-02-27 If he is older- he may already be set on a "favorite" food, mine was, he tolerated fresh and frozen shrimp / scallops from the grocery store for the first month (probably the novelty of it). I was mixing it up; dried krill then fresh groc store shrimp then froz groc store shrimp. After about 2mos he went on a little hunger strike. I was out of the dried tetra jumbo krill and he wouldnt eat ANYTHING for almost 3 weeks. I bought more dried krill and he's been fine ever since. Our last "hiber-break" (he hides and won't eat like he's hibernating lol) was about 4mos ago. He does it about every 6mos. Levi is 2' 6"- fat- wrinkly :) and seems happy. His eyes seem a little milky so he is probably a lot older than the 4 years I know of. I read they are carrion type eaters in the wild but I have never gotten mine to eat fish ( frozen silversides) or frozen crab.

TT - 2011-09-05 HI I had mine for a long long time. I feed him every second day with mussels that I get from the local shop raw nothing added . He eats like a piggy up to 8 every second day and is healty as you can't believe. Try that perhaps that would help. I take the frozen mussels put into some water the morning with some garlic then at night feed him. They normaly don't eat during the day. I have noticed they look for food at night so just before you put the light off for sleeping time feed him.
The Zebra Moray Eel is the absolute best captive kept eel that can be housed with small fish, however they do need a large tank!
