Linda Ruffin - 2018-08-19 Our puppy is a year and four months old but only weighs about 4 pounds. She has all the traits and personality of a Havanese, and was bought from a Havanese breeder as a pure havanese. What could cause her to be so tiny?
Char - 2014-05-26 I am a new breeder of Havanese. My sister has been breeding this breed for 20 years. They should be around 14-17 pounds. They are now being bred for tiny. My first Havanese is under 8 lbs and 8-1/2 inches high. She is a little thin but my vet said to give her pot pies to put weight on. They are a lovely dog. My second girl is 14 lbs and seems to be a perfect weight. I have found that NurtiSource is the best food nutrition wise and particularly for their coats.

Ginger - 2015-04-21 Hi, We researched the Havanese breed extensively before adopting Bentley who was a rescue, at 18 months. At the time of rescue he was 18 lbs, but his measurements are well within the range for the breed. He is now 21lbs and our Vet says he is not overweight. I understand that Havanese are being breed to be small / low weight. However Bentley is pure Havanese. He had been with three families and three shelters when we got him. He has been trained and performs various tricks. It took a couple of years to get his full coat in. We don't know what he went through prior to adoption, however he guards us fiercely against other dogs and strangers. He is extremely loyal, and only trusts strangers after a 2nd meeting.
Brenda Boles - 2010-09-21 I have what is supposed to be a Havanese, looks and acts like a Havanese, is very sweet, etc., etc. One thing though -- he is 25 pounds now! When I got him, he was a rescue dog and weighed 22.5 pounds and was thin. Everything I've read says they weigh a lot less. Height to his withers is 11.25". I think he needs to lose about 2 pounds. Is he a Havanese? I also thought maybe he was a Tibetan Terrier, however, his legs are short like a Havanese.

Tammy - 2010-11-20 I have a purebread Havanese and he is 3 1/2 now and 24 lbs. He is at his healthiest when he is 22 lbs. Havanese can get this big! I have a second 1 1/2 yr. old and he is only 9 lbs. Really, it all depends on the parents, but there is quite a range! They are sweet, funny dogs though, aren't they?
Audrey - 2014-09-29 Yes they are sweet, comical, loyal, sensitive, friendly, highly intelligent, prideful breed. We love our Havanese as if she were another child or sibling....
Audrey - 2014-09-29 Our 3 1/2 year old fluctuates between 22 to 25 lbs. The Vet says her weight is perfectly normal. Most of her weight is in her full coat..lol.
Though the Havanese is a toy dog, this companion dog has a sturdy build for its size!
