Also, she'd eat rocks if I let her, she is not picky at all. She also is TERRIFIED of cats, but loves chasing squirrels.

She's wearing her bandana ironically.

I managed to train the barking almost completely out of my Papihuahua, Gertie. She barks only when another dog approaches her territory. Papillions can be quite territorial and she gotten a lot better. That is the only time that she isn't the best dog in the whole world. She is not afraid of strangers; she loves being pet by them. She LOVES kids. SO MUCH. She is so gentle with them but if they want to play, my god she will chase them! She's not a big player. I mean, she'll occasionally run around like a crazy person, but she is rather afraid to play in front of big dogs because I guess they want to play back. But if it's just her and another small dog, she'll usually tear it up. She loves walks and exercise. She's a great cuddler and loves our night-time cuddle sessions. She was very difficult to completely house train, eliminating in the house up to a year of age. She's four now and there's no problems. She took to crate training very well and loves her house on the main floor. Teaching her new tricks is easy it just takes ten minutes and some patience. But she understands many different commands, and I'm pretty sure that she understands the tone with which I say the same words. She is the best dog in the whole world.

OMG - I am so glad you guys mentioned again and again how picky they are. I went to Petsmart and bought a sampling of all the highest-end dogfoods they offered and finally found one my papihuahua (better than 'chion,' don't you think?) loved, but she quit eating it after a month. She loves people food, though, especially protein bars and popcorn chicken. The only way to insure she eats is to feed her with her bigger sibling, a Westie. Her natural dominance insures she will eat if he is around to keep him from getting it.

Haha! That's hilarious. My Papihuahua is so not picky at all. She would eat rocks if I let her. She's always waiting in the kitchen to be fed. I'm sure she would just eat the whole bag if I let her! She is on a raw, grain-free diet though. I find she gains weight very easily on dry food and she not only loves the raw food, but it's much easier to maintain her ideal weight.

When you are starting from scratch - quickest way is to Goggle        Chion Breeders.   You will come up with many - all over the US but possibly one close to you.

I have a beautiful year and a half old Puguawa girl. She's had a litter of adorable pups, the perfect mommy. well she's gonna be a mommy again. My concern is she sleeps a whole lot. ..She's only 3 weeks pregnant, is this normal?

Most dogs start to sleep a lot more when pregnant, usually it becomes most noticable about 2/3rd's of the way through pregnancy. Chugs have about a 63-day (9 week) gestation period, and some have been known to sleep alot throughout the entire pregnancy, so I wouldn't worry too much about it.

I have an eight-month-old male Chion and he is the most lovable dog I have ever had. He got parvo three weeks after I got him even though he had been vaccinated and survived after five days in ICU. He loves everyone and I have him at my store with me every day. He loves his three 20+ pound cats, one in particular. He is a joy and when I mate him in a few months with a Chion who has the same father different mother, I am going to keep one of the litter. He's very fussy about food and pants a lot in a car, but other than that, he is snuggly and lovable and loves kids and people in general. I think having him around people all day has been good for him. He loves to play and in the yard it is impossible to catch him when he's running in circles. He is very very smart!! I love him a lot as he has stolen my heart!!

That is so beautiful! As you said, the socialization at the store has been great for him. They are very smart. We absolutely love our dog, Caya.

We have a male Chion that will turn 7 in May. He is a real joy. Very loving and extremely smart. Loves to cuddle and sleep with his mama and daddy right between us on his back with his head on the pillow. He loves to travel especially to go camping. I do not let him off the leash unless he is in an enclosed area because he loves to chase birds, squirrels and cats. He is ok around older children but does not like younger children and tends to growl and snap at them if they approach him.

Ours, also, loves to sleep in bed between us with her head on the pillow as well as going for car rides and walks on the beach. We take our Chion, Caya, for walks off-leash on some trails at a park near us and luckily, we've never had problems with her going off (they're quite loyal to their owners). On occasion she will run up to a tree that a squirrel is going up, but always joins us in a few minutes. You might be able to work with a trainer to help with your dog's agression towards younger children. Ours is great with people of all ages.

Wow, amazing the difference in just one day. Our new puppy Chion came home sweet and fairly docile, and is apparently getting very comfortable in her new home. She was extremely rambunctious but also very aggressive with nipping and biting, almost uncontrollably. Any suggestions on how to discipline aside from a good stern 'NO' each time?

Sounds like a cute and energetic puppy. I would start with love and consistent gentle discipline. But most of all, she's a puppy, so I would say patience and giving her plenty of time to get used to her new home and to grow up.

I agree with the previous individual. As they are energetic, I would also suggest daily walks and games to stimulate them.

We got our PapiChi or Chion about five years ago. Still seems like just yesterday. When we called the ad in our local paper the lady selling him said he had freakishly big ears. But she forgot to mention how cute and soft they were! Lol. We got him from a breeder that lived on a farm. He was a litter of two, him and his sister. He had been kept in the chicken coup in her barn all alone. When we got him he had some sort of ear infection, but it was an easy fix. He seemed so timid and lethargic. And a little scared. But didn't nip or bark. He slept the whole car ride home and when we got home he was like a brand new dog. Running and wanted to play. It has been fun and cute watching him grow up. Discovering his own bark and the stairs. And his allergies to certain vaccinations. Due to my mom's lack of discipline, though, he has become a bit of a liability. He is very skittish of strangers outside the home and even worse inside. He howls constantly unless he is being held. Lately it's gotten worse. He used to just lunge after people walking away and wouldn't do anything else, but a few times he's actually gotten their pant leg. He even bit my dad awhile back, but I have to admit my dad had it coming. He was kind of intimidating the dog. He has been extremely good with potty training though. And he has learned lots of words, knows how to sit and shake and the word off. I'd say he's been a pretty good purchase for $100 bucks. But make sure like it says to start early in their discipline and keep on it throughout their life or you will definitely wind up with a dog like ours.

Our rescued Chion is the sweetest little guy. He's skiddish around strangers and barks as a protective measure. Learns super fast and is eager to please. High energy, loves walks and car rides.
