We have a 4 year old female that is the sweetest little dog that thinks everyone is here to be her friend. She ignores other animals on our walks but wants to meet everyone, especially children. She is a little barky even at noises she should know. All in all she is 4.5 pounds of happiness.

I saw an ad for has a Labradoodle-Shih Tzu mix puppy that is available for adoption. The puppy is adorable! Still, I have concerns about the cross breeding of cross breeds and wonder if this puppy has a hardy life ahead of her. Thoughts?

Better a cross breed than an in bred.  Genetically each individual pup comes with whatever it has.  Some breeds are more prone to certain behaviors and or diseases.  When you cross breed species the likelihood of both breeds having genes for hip displasia or ear infections or skin infections are minimized - unless you cross breed two dogs that have similar genetic material - you should be just fine.

Consistency is the most important thing. Decide which metohd you want to use, and do it over and over again. When I was house breaking my puppy, I took her outside at regular intervals. When I was not home, she was in her crate. I also kept her on a leash inside the house for the first few months, so she was always near me. As she got better, I gave her more freedom. Don't be to worried if your dog has an occasional accident, just be consistent.References :

I am in Dallas and I have a male chug!!

We just brought home a male chi mix, (from the Animal Shelter) and after doing research - I'm convinced he is pug/chi mix. I too am from Dallas (just NE - Allen). We brought home this sweet little playful, loving boy from the shelter and now I'm discovering that it's considered a designer breed! I'll post pics if I can figure it out (just got here) and hopefully you can give me your opinions. He was a stray - but obviously has lived in a house before and used to being picked up. We think he's 4, - taking him to the vet today.

My chihuahua just had chug puppies 8 weeks ago, two beautiful boys and two girls. Birthing them wasn't easy for her (my moms pug got ahold of her). Mama was a rescue who was badly neglected and ran away when her pups where only 5 weeks old. We hope she comes home. Originally I thought these chubby pups sucked her dry bc she didn't want to feed them in the end. In the meantime I have done my best to play mama duck since I'm home pregnant. They make bedrest bearable and are super easy! They are super smart, independent yet loyal, they snuggle so good and are adventurous in the most adorable way! Every where I go these puppies attract so much attention (my sons says they're chick magnets-lol). These are the smartest puppies I (or anyone) have ever seen by far! They burrow and 'protect' just like a chihuahua without the anxiety or yippyness! They picked up on potty training within 2 days and now they even sit (and I'm no expert dog trainer at all!). They have only had one accident between all of them, I'm amazed by how smart they are! Luckily I found a great home where both boys went together (couldn't keep them all witb a baby coming!) and I've decided to keep the girls;'Thelma' and 'Louise' even though I have so many ppl begging for one! They follow me like ducklings and are so attached to each other, they are great with my teacup chihuahua, kids and cats. Funny thing is I never planned on keeping any but thier personality won me over for life! I'm hooked! I might be interested in breeding them each once in the future, I live in auburn Washington, near Cynthia in Seattle ( if u dont mind waiting for them).I am also curious what a second generation might be like. Plus I have sooo many ppl wanting my girls and since I can't let go of them maybe I can hook them up with a great lifelong companion in the future! Best breed ever!

Just adopted 4 year old Chion. He hates being alone. When we leave we put him in kennle is this ok? He barks alot and shakes! Do they need hair cuts?

Many don't like being alone.  Try leaving an unwashed t-shirt and socks in the kennel with him.  They don't need hair cuts but they do need grooming - which in some cases is a hair cut.  If you don't keep them brushed regularly, they mat and it gets hard to get the mats out.  Shaking is part of the nature of a chihauhua - which is 50% of the Chion mixure.

My female chorkie Princess Gracey is the sweetest most loving pet I have ever had. She is also the most loyal dog ever. We have a large family and she loves us all, but, she has always been a mamma's girl from day one. These dogs make wonderful pets but mine is extremely small at barely 3lbs at 16 months. We have to watch her like a hawk.

I want a Chorkie that small! I love my 12lb.er and would love a teeny one, which was my original intent. How can you predict the adult weight?
  • Charlie Roche - 2012-07-19
It pretty much depends on the size of the parents.  Some are quite a bit larger than others.  You can get the largest one in the litter or the smallest.  If both parents are tiny - chances are the off spring will be.

My Charlie looks exactly like this but he is much bigger. He is probably 15 inches tall and weighs 21 pounds. He isn't fat, but very muscular. The breed description is dead on.

I have a 5.5 yr old Chion. He is a rescue dog. I am not sure about his previous home life. He is the sweetest little guy I have ever seen. He loves to snuggle. He hardly ever barks. When he does he always looks at me like "did you hear that?" He gets along with my cat sometimes and other times he would rather rip her head off. It actually kind of funny to watch. They will be snuggled up together, then he will realize she is there and growl and snap at her. I give Bianca lots of credit for trying to be friends with him LOL! He is ok with the grandkids, but most of the time he would rather avoid kids. I feel really blessed to have found him.

I have a 6 month old Chion that I bought from a reputable breeder. I love her so much... She is very active, intelligent and sleeps all night! She does not bark excessively, but does not like to be left behind. She follows me everywhere I go... She weighs 7lbs...
    Wonderful company, she is! x

I have a dog to hes got a funny personality. He gets spoiled allmost every day. He has abandon issues. He was the last one to get bought (by us) I just hope he is happy. We got him at petland fluffey is protective when my mother touches my father he gets protective. But he's very lovable to and super cute. He is only over 2 years now I think. We got him when he was 6 months. great ever since

I have a seven week old chion bitch. She is absolutely adorable, fitted straight in with my other two dogs. She is toilet trained to her mats already and comes when called. She does feel the cold but a little jumper does the trick. She was picked from birth from a litter of five my friends papillion had, all completely different markings. She's a beautiful little dog, full of confidence and very loving. I would recommend this breed to anyone.

I have had "Hooch" for 3 years as I inherited him from an older family member who could not take proper care of him. He was so upset about the move he would not eat so I made him Meatloaf! It took a while for us to warm up to one another but he started sleeping with me under the covers and that was it! Now....... we are attached at the hip! He is so smart and a one woman dog! He only gets "barky" when someone comes to the door or approaches us on a walk. He is SOOOOOO affectionate & always by my side! I love him dearly and can't imagine life without my little red man with the floppy ears! ;-)

I have a chion but even though i have read that they are very sociable. She growls at my husband everytime he tries to touch her. One day she bit him on the lip when he was just trying to kiss her by her nose. But when i do it she doesn't bite or growl, shes use to me im aroudn more often but when it omes to my husband she is very protective but on the other hand she also protects him when he is around people. Intersting. How do I get my chion to be comfortable with my husband.

WOW difficult one. Sounds like she is most protective of you and then protective of the family. Have your hubby give the chion little treats with commands. Sit, Stay, Pet, Hug etc -- I like to use turkey hotdogs sliced and then quartered and just in a bag in my pocket. Your hubby without realizing it may have done something that scared the pup - so he maybe just has to get the pup used to him and you might as welll use it as training time also,.

Hi, I also have a female chion. She growls and bites anyone who tries to move her if she is resting, she snaps at children who try to stroke her. She is remorseful afterwards and knows she has done something wrong. She is very loveable and playful but when she doesn't want to be bothered, she makes it known. When she does attack, she is very quick and quite aggressive. She is very protective of me but she will even snarl at me if she doesn't want touching.
