We have a male Chion that will turn 7 in May. He is a real joy. Very loving and extremely smart. Loves to cuddle and sleep with his mama and daddy right between us on his back with his head on the pillow. He loves to travel especially to go camping. I do not let him off the leash unless he is in an enclosed area because he loves to chase birds, squirrels and cats. He is ok around older children but does not like younger children and tends to growl and snap at them if they approach him.

Ours, also, loves to sleep in bed between us with her head on the pillow as well as going for car rides and walks on the beach. We take our Chion, Caya, for walks off-leash on some trails at a park near us and luckily, we've never had problems with her going off (they're quite loyal to their owners). On occasion she will run up to a tree that a squirrel is going up, but always joins us in a few minutes. You might be able to work with a trainer to help with your dog's agression towards younger children. Ours is great with people of all ages.

Wow, amazing the difference in just one day. Our new puppy Chion came home sweet and fairly docile, and is apparently getting very comfortable in her new home. She was extremely rambunctious but also very aggressive with nipping and biting, almost uncontrollably. Any suggestions on how to discipline aside from a good stern 'NO' each time?

Sounds like a cute and energetic puppy. I would start with love and consistent gentle discipline. But most of all, she's a puppy, so I would say patience and giving her plenty of time to get used to her new home and to grow up.

I agree with the previous individual. As they are energetic, I would also suggest daily walks and games to stimulate them.

We got our PapiChi or Chion about five years ago. Still seems like just yesterday. When we called the ad in our local paper the lady selling him said he had freakishly big ears. But she forgot to mention how cute and soft they were! Lol. We got him from a breeder that lived on a farm. He was a litter of two, him and his sister. He had been kept in the chicken coup in her barn all alone. When we got him he had some sort of ear infection, but it was an easy fix. He seemed so timid and lethargic. And a little scared. But didn't nip or bark. He slept the whole car ride home and when we got home he was like a brand new dog. Running and wanted to play. It has been fun and cute watching him grow up. Discovering his own bark and the stairs. And his allergies to certain vaccinations. Due to my mom's lack of discipline, though, he has become a bit of a liability. He is very skittish of strangers outside the home and even worse inside. He howls constantly unless he is being held. Lately it's gotten worse. He used to just lunge after people walking away and wouldn't do anything else, but a few times he's actually gotten their pant leg. He even bit my dad awhile back, but I have to admit my dad had it coming. He was kind of intimidating the dog. He has been extremely good with potty training though. And he has learned lots of words, knows how to sit and shake and the word off. I'd say he's been a pretty good purchase for $100 bucks. But make sure like it says to start early in their discipline and keep on it throughout their life or you will definitely wind up with a dog like ours.

Our rescued Chion is the sweetest little guy. He's skiddish around strangers and barks as a protective measure. Learns super fast and is eager to please. High energy, loves walks and car rides.

I have a senior Chug rescued from a local Shelter. This baby started off very happy and very playful. After a week this poor baby has stopped being playful and sleeps constantly. She is not eating, and she continues to get sick not long after eating, but it is not food she is spitting up, it is bile. I have taken her to the emergency room and they said her blood tests show no problems. Please anyone, can you give advice to someone who knows nothing about caring for this little girl, she is so precious, and I fear I am losing her quickly.

Possible food allergy. Will be a challenge but try starting with various forms of nothing but sweet potatoes for minimum of 10 days to see if any positive result. Resist temptation to add anything to make it more appealing!

    Pancreatitis...serious

Try asking or taking her to the shelter where you got her. I would think that they would be familiar with her health, eating habits, etc.. Its at least worth the phone call, right? Best of luck with your Chug ... Hope all works out alright!!!

There is no age that they start. Really depends on the dog.  He may not have found a reason to bark yet.

When he needs to protect you, bring your attention to something or feels a threat. That is the only time mine barks and he's 5! :o)

We got our Chion from our local hs a few years ago..on her form they stated she was untrainable and barked a lot...but two years later she is the sweetest dog I have ever had, she is sweet, loving, and she loves people. Ironically, she is attatched to both my fiancee and I. The only little quirk is that she is picky about food, but otherwise easy to train. Potty training was a little work, but she hasn't had an accident in a while. And she is the BIGGEST baby I have had. She loves attention and knows how to get our attention in varying creative ways. She is hands down the best dog I have ever had.

We just adopted a Mastiff/Great Dane mix.we did a 2 week trial time and he weighed 92 pounds and 2 weeks later he is 96 pounds. He is only a year and a half old. He has a couple things we need to work on like barking and protecting us from those mean killer bunnies and squirrels in our back yard. He chases them with me attached! He is a wonderful addition to our family.
