Check out the rescue leagues. I got my Wally at one in Florida, Grateful Paws,. He is 16 months old and a bundle of fun! He does bark a lot though! Good luck...

My first Blue Heeler was ACD registered and female. She was what I would call the perfect dog. Well behaved and loved everyone. She was protective of me and would attempt to bite only if she felt I was threatened. It took me ten years to get another Blue Heeler without feeling like I was trying to replace her. This time I bought a farm dog, not registered but certainly pure bred. He is very different from my first one. He is very aggressive with everyone except immediate family (this includes about 7 people), I mean he is even aggressive toward people he saw weekly when he was a pup. Doesn't matter if it is adult or child. He also a submissive/excited dribbler. pee pee pee....not as bad now that he is a year old but he still does it with most except me. I don't know what made him the opposite of my previous heeler and I should not compare but I thought I knew the breed from her behavior and he is similar in some ways but different in so many others. SO hardheaded. I socialized him as a pup and had family to include kids around him every weekend, took him to puppy class which he excelled (top of his class in obedience) except after that seems to be when the peeing started. I run him at least 2 miles every day if possible on the treadmill and play ball or Frisbee when time and weather allow. It sucks to have to lock him away every time we have company. Anyway, despite his attitude, I adore him and he makes me laugh. Like a comedian. My first heeler was always so serious and he is constantly being silly. Example...when I refused to play with him because I was watching tv one night, he kept shoving his toy at me and juggling it around in his mouth. I still refused to play so he put his toy in the toilet which I found after I went to the bathroom..eeeew. Any advice on if his aggressive behavior is a normal trait would be great. I am hooked again though even with his faults, I love him.

I have a female Blue Heeler who has the same characteristics as your male. She is extremely silly a good deal of the time. She is extremely protective of me but not so much my husband. She was also a submissive/excited dribbler up until about 2 months ago. She's now 20 months old. She is very leery of other people, even people she has seen since the day I got her at 6 weeks of age. I, too, have to lock her away when company comes over, at least for about 15 to 20 minutes. I started socializing her immediately upon bringing her home, but she still nips at these same people I socialized her with. From all the reading I've done on the breed, this seems to be normal behavior for the breed. My last dog was a Heeler/Border Collie mix, which the British Kennel Club recognizes as a McNab. She was a wonderful dog, but also leery of anyone outside the household.

I have a bullterrier that was a demon in the house. The dog used to pee where he wanted,digging holes, and also biting my furniture and clothes. Hello, can any one give us some advice? We have a lovely 2 year and 9 month bull terrier, she is a very good dog, we moved home 9 months ago and in the first few months she was acting very old, very possessive over certain items (furniture ) in the house. We need she wouldn't be perfect with the move and were told by the et this is normal and give her time... She settled down great, but not 9 months on she is doing the same thing, first it was a lazy boy chair, would sit on it but then stare at it, like it was ready to get her, we have moved this and she wasn't happy, tried to attack it, now it's the old little things, the clothes maiden even my feet :-( can any help? Thank you :'-(

My daughter has a long haired we call her Grandpuppy (as we have no grandchildren yet) and she is adorable. We take her often for overnights. She is also not a barker and her personality and temperament is fabulous. At our house she goes potty outside only. We have a puppy pad down at all times but she has never used it. She absolutely LOVES people. She is constantly on my husband or myself. As for bed, she sleeps with us. During the night if she becomes chilled she will paw me and all I do is lift the blankets and down she goes, snuggled up to me. I have no idea how she can breathe under there for hours but she does. If she needs to pee during the night (which is rare) she will lick my face consistently. She is such a joy to have around and so calming and funny at her crazy times that we are now searching for one of our own. With the allergies my husband has with animals, she is not an issue at all for him.

We just adopted a Long-haired Chihuahua … she’s 8 years old. She’s amazing. She’s both potty and piddle-pad trained. She seems to do well with people and my grandchildren. Like you Lucy is constantly on me or my husband. She also sleeps in our bed but we’ve taught her when light goes out she has to go down to her end of the bed with her own blanket. Only once I had to take her out in the middle of the night, she came and pestered me … but that was once in the months we’ve had her. I take her for 30 to 45 min. walks, when we get back to our yard she runs around likes she’s put with so much energy. She’s pure joy and we are so happy we adopted her.

Hi, I have adopted a long hair chi about a year ago and I adore him and I'm his person. I have two questions......i wanted to know if it's normal for this kind of bread to have watery eyes and since it's fur is light coloured it has always dark circles under his eyes . My biggest issue is that he is afraid of my husband and no matter what we do to make him feel secure he doesn't trust him and is afraid of him no matter what, he even pees on my husband's side of sofa and I'm sure he does it on purpose. I can assure that my husband is a dog lover and he never hit him or anything.....I will appreciate any comment. Thanks

Yes, this breed is also known to have very watery eyes, and it can cause tearstains. Also this is not necessarily a Chihuahua only problem, it is more common in any of the 'big eyes' breeds of dogs.

As far as the fear of your husband, that may or may not be changed, one of those things that is not a for sure. But you could try a professional 'positive-based' trainer. The behavior trainer may be able to help you determine if the dogs behavior could be manageable and possibly help over come, but it will take a lot of work and commitment and take a lot of time.

Hi, 13 years ago I was in a pet store buying my Ferret food, when I saw a puppy pile if Chihuahuas for sale. Only one had a furry tail and a fluffy mane around his sweet neck. I asked the sales lady what kind of dog he was and she said"he's a long Haired Chihuahua". I didn't even know they made them!! So I went home, kept thinking of him and a few days later I went and bought him. Chewy is a tan and white Apple Head and rides on my Harley, had traveled across the country twice, is a visitor to nursing homes and never barks or snaps at anyone. He has his own fan club and I'm now a Chihuahua Fan!!! I want a whole Rescue Ranch of them!!!

Ok thanks..I will try and find a breeder around here and see if they are willing to check her out for me. Yes the Humane Society that runs the Cell Dog program was afraid no one would adopt her, so they listed her as lab/terrier mix. She is 16 months olds, very intelligent..she is crate trained and also hand command trained...We love her to death!!

hi, ive just noticed this post and wondering if somebody would be willing to help me? I have recently rescued a dog, I was told she was a pit/staff, but people tend to say she is a full red nose pit. if I upload pics would any body be willing to take a look? she is a well mannered, beautiful dof. thanks xxx
