I have two and literally, one is evil. You can't walk past her without her trying to attack you. How can I change that?

Hi Jordan, Lilith used to do that as well. She's just playing. I explained in a respectful manner, without being condescending, that it hurt and showed her the blood. Took a year or so, these days she still attacks, but hasn't broken skin for years now. Maybe the first layer, but she pulls back when she feels that happen.

The photo of the Van cat in this profile is of my sister Jaina's old cat Stormy, whom she said was the breed standard (back then, oh I think around 19902 to early 2000's). There are a lot of people asking where they can get a Van cat. All you have to do is go to any cat shows in the area, they have them around once per year. There may or may not be Vans showing. Van cats are A) very large, B) can be VERY aggressive, even to their owners, and bite viciously enough to leave scarring. They are rather fearless. Although they can bite their owners, I haven't known them to be aggressive toward other cats, or pick fights with other cats.

I have two adult van cats that I am desperately looking for new loving homes! We have to downsize from our house and moving back to an apartment. I am unable to take them with me... I am originally from Turkey and brought them back with me to the States (Oregon) before it was outlawed to export these cats out of the country since they are now classified as endangered. If you are interested, please contact me..... I know I cannot add my email address here, so please check the craigslist pet listings for Oregon portland. you will see my ad there! Thanks!

Do you still have them? I would treat them more like my own children. Am an avid cat lover and very knowledgeable on how to care for cats. My own cat is 16 years old, and I know she doesn't have much time left. I once had an angoria that I loved dearly.

We (me and my wife) have 2 lovely van cats > Pepper (Black & White) and Ginger (Amber & White). They perfectly depict above behaviours and are the most loving among our other cats (mostly European Baroudeurs). Ginger has tendency to meow a lot. We wonder why?

I guess some cats are just more vocal, though I think this is unusual for a Van Cat. We have a siamese mix, and she gets very vocal, but our other cat, more of a Somali though also a mix, has a soft mew and and is very quiet.

    Hi Clarice,
Thanks for replying. Pepper is very silent but Ginger been talkative a lot. Anything he needs he starts to meow - for food, for play, for attention, just anything. He also vomitted couple of days back. We're bringing him to the vet during the week end!

Good luck with your cat. Just an aside, my siamese gets hairballs pretty regularly, and so she vomits.

I agree with Clarice, we have a small 8 pound 'mute' cat.... well Shmoopie does meow, but so daintily, then we have a 15 pound RagDoll, Meeko, that howls like a wolf (picked that up from the neighbors wolf/hybrid) then he is bored and wants to be played with! So we play with him for about a 1/2 hour and he quiets up and goes to sleep! lol

I have 6 females, I am crushed that I have to give them away. They were born on easter day last yr. They have their shots and have been altered, they are all beautiful ,sooo smart ,love classical piano ( I play daily for them, they all gather at the piano, and finally fall asleep). I talk a lot to them and they are very very responsive and vocal. They have been raised on my farm and do not know city life, cars, dogs etc. In fact they know on one but me and their 10 litter mates. It is my hope that they may be adopted with at least one of their litter mates, other wise I am so afraid they would be at a huge loss if taken alone.
they are- lady gaga, tipper gore, cory booker, carmen carmella, corrina corrina and vanderson cooper I will send pictures if you are interested, my email is unreliable (dial up out here in the boonys) so call me on land line 405 966 2226,i love them so .

Last December, a week before Christmas, sone fool dumped a female Van
by my house, out in the country, East Texas. The first cold spell drove the little kitten into my green house, where I found her. Obviously used to human touch, she came right to me and, I'm happy to say, took right up with me and now, August of 2011, has become a most joyous addition to all the other "dumped" cats, living with me.

Not my first Van, she is very typical in behavior of a Van, taking over the house and home. Pitty the fool, who dumped her.

Contact people on Meetup.com, portland area. Do not take them to the animal shelter, they stand a good chance of being destroyed. Meetup.com
