My little Whitey passed away today at only 11 years old. No symptoms over a long period except for an aversion to his normal deli cat. I switched to fancy feast and he became ecstatic for about a couple weeks, then stopped eating that. He laid down and stared at his dish for half a day. Wobbly gait. When I tried to wake him today, he coughed and weased and tried to move, but by the time we got to the vet his heart was beating but he wasn't breathing. Just an occassional cough. I hope he passed away in no pain. I loved my boy. I got him 3 months before meeting my current wife. We are sick.

I am so sorry. I had my kitten for 17 years and I still miss her.

I cried when I read your story. I have cats too and have lost some in the past due to old age and illness. Please take comfort in knowing that your little "Whitey" knew how much he was loved and was adored by you both. What a lucky kitty to have such a loving home and such devoted owners. When it was time, you gave him the gift of a peaceful end. I am sure he did not suffer knowing that you were right there with him.

My family and I wanted to adopt a dog or cat so we decided to adopt a cat because my 3 year old doesn't like dogs. So we went to tree house humane society as soon as we walked in there was a lot of different cats and right away a 1 year old cat went up to me and befriended me and my family so we looked and looked and the next day we went back and adopted the cat that befriended us and so it turned out to be an ocicat she is amazing she is friendly and follows us every where in the house she is our baby and she stole all of our hearts. She acts like a dog but has the most adorable meows we love her and she knows it. It only took three days for her to get comfortable with us and now she sleeps in my bed next to me and my husband my children loves her and she is good with them. I am so lucky to have her in our lives.

I own a serval, and the only negative comments I can make is that she is way smarter than my husband, and her farts could knock a buzzard off a poop wagon. She is very loving, social, and gets along well with everyone, including people, children, and other pets.

How did you come about owning one of these animals?
  • fred - 2010-03-30
    Hi Cindy:

How old is your serval? Does your serval spray inside the house and how are her litter box habits? I am trying to find out if a serval would make a good pet to travel with me. I am also thinking of getting a caracal, if they would make a more suitable traveling companion.

Where can I buy a serval?
  • jeff - 2010-10-16

  • Madison - 2011-01-23
Where did you get your serval? I have been searching for what seems like forever but still no luck. Give me the website/email if possible.

Is this the only type of cat that gets that big? My daughter loves cats course she is only two but my in law said the other day that they have big cats that can get as big as a dog but she couldn't remember the name. So that is my question as far as are their different types and also where do you search for one so you have to go through an exotic country for them or are they here in the states? Thanks for taking your time to read my comment and she is beautiful love the print on her:)

Contact people on, portland area. Do not take them to the animal shelter, they stand a good chance of being destroyed.

I got my first Natural Mink Tonkinese, Cheesecake in 1985 -he was bred from a Sable Burmese mother and a Seal Point Siamese father - Cheesecake was 17 years old when he got lympho sarcoma-cancer - it broke our hearts but we had already fallen in love with Tonks - we also had Sasafrass Marie at the same time - she was a Seal Point Siamese girl that lived until she was 19 years old - we lost her to heart and kidney failure. Again ours hearts broke. We now have two Tonks - Charlie is a Champagne Mink 8 year old sweetest kitty boy with the kindest heart and soul we have ever known. Oliver is a Blue Point 3 year old very active and loving kitty boy. Both are very athletic and extremely smart and always polite to everyone including the vets. We wouldn't be without our kitties whether they be Siamese or Tonkinese - you just can't beat them!

We have a blue point Tonkinese called Oscar, he is only 9 months old and is the best cat we have ever had. He is so affectionate and loves lots of cuddles. At night we carry him up like a baby and he settles into sleep with my children taking it in turns which one he will sleep with and there he stays until the morning. When he is hungry he is very vocal and he does eat alot ! He is just so adorable.

I am a resident of Somerset West, Cape Town, South Africa and live with two female Tonks and a wife, affectionately known as "the three blonde bitches", who are all amazingly adorable. The older Tonk, Lulu (Talulah) a solid lilac is 6 years old, a bit skittish and shy, who loves as much human attention as she can get. She grew up with a Bengal, who has since passed on due to kidney failure, and both grew up in our garden where they learnt to climb the highest trees, catch birds, guinea fowl, moles, rats, mice, chameleon's and any other insect that moved. The only problem is that their catches were brought into the house either as gifts or to be ripped apart which eventually required many carpets to be replaced. The younger s a 2 year old caramel named Kapri, full of mischief, gets constantly locked into a wardrobe or cupboard and is the most affectionate animal we have ever owned. I've never seen her climb a tree nor catch prey, and basically spends her time indoors unless we are outside. She's also the official greeter to any visitor and in fact friends often come to visit and cuddle her. Thankfully we have king size bed so there is space under the duvet for all of us at night especially during the cold winter months. If you haven't owned a Tonkinese you haven't lived with a cat yet!

Hi. Some years ago my mother found Turkish Angora in park bushes. The cat was bad in shape and it turned out that he's deaf. Some say that deafness affects mostly cats with blue eyes or mixed eye colours. This cat however has green eyes, so I wonder if it's the white coat among many other things in DNA which is the cause? Since we had other two cats at home, it was adopted by Pershian university students. To bad as it is one of the best looking cats we had at home. Faniest of all my ex-girlfriend being from western Iran and speaking also Turkish would propably love this cat - just one of life coincidents or mysteries.

I have had my Devon Rex for 3 years now. "Dex" is the best. A fun, loving, outgoing, curious kitty. (Plus, I never have to use a lint brush.) He is always by my side, whether cooking, watching tv and/or sleeping (a huge snuggler). He loves to play. If I'm not playing with him, he will follow me around hitting my ankles with his paws. The Devon is a funny...yet very smart cat. The breed comes with a price tag, but it's worth it.

My daughter has a Scottish Fold that she just rescued. Its coat is so thick that none of our cat grooming tools seem to penetrate it. What type of brush or comb would you suggest? Thanks.

Just a thought. I had a Balinese with the same problem. None of the cat/dog brushes would go through the coat. I finally just bought a regular womans hairbrush with the rounded tip edges. That worked for me. Good luck. If you find something let us know.
  • Sandra Musser - 2011-04-30
Thanks so very much! Even our vet, who said that this one is his first Scottish Fold had no clue for us. So we will try your recommendation and I thank you so very much for it!!! Sandy
