Charlie Roche - 2011-10-10 Most parrots but cockatoos more than any others NEED attention. They crave attention and demand it from their humans. They are very social and to them you are their whole world. You are their flock, their mate, their friend. They are about equivalent to a 3 year old human chikd in their need to be with their human. You can spend time with your Ella while she is on her perch and you share your supper with her - or your breakfast. You can spend time with her watching TV. You need to spend time with her providing attention and playing. If she doesn't get the attention she is going to pluck, she will keep screaming and will probably be very depressed. You need to decide to devote the time for Ella - for the next 50 years or so --- or to find a suitable home for her. She is young, tame and wants to be loved and there should be no problem finding a new family for her but she can't be stuck in a cage without socialization and companionship. It would be like putting yourself in solitary confinement. Ella knws you are home and will make big noises to get your attention. She is calling her mate her flock. They just can't take isolation.

Here it seems exactly the opposite and I'm seeing a bit of has as to you finding or wanting to find the time to spend with your bird. Cockatoo are extremely sensitive and very much like humans when it comes to needing to be interacted with and feeling the touch and love of there owner in order to live a happy productive life. It seems like you have a bird that does want that interaction of a human and companionship which is already a big hurdle a good advance in the right direction. If you do not give her the time and attempt she craves she may actually regress and will not online one depressed but will have to learn all over again that touch and human companionship is a good thing.A parrot is a lifetime commitment and absolutely should not be a quick decision just because you see one and see how cute or smart they cannot does not mean they automatically come like that.they have bad behaviours like any other animal and since they are so smart are easily imprinted on and sadly affected by neglect,as well as definitely need Alot more time than a hamster .you cannot just leave a parrot in the corner with some toys and bring him. Or her out when it suits you. This will definitely cause depression and even aggression that will come very noticeably in the form of plucking and evening due to resentment. It is not fair or even practical for somebody to own a parrot before doing your research and prepare your self for both good and bad . The thing is that parrots are wild animals and they are going to always be instinctively that.thereis no such thing as a bad parrot just BAD OWNERS. You may have just impulsively bought this bird and have not been correctly educated and now you have your hands full. Right now it sounds like your bird still wants human interaction and is wanting to be loving so it will be extra easy to find someone who has experience with large birds to take in this one.please do yourself and this bird a favour and find a home in which he or she will thrive in. Don't feel bad about doing what's best for the animal.nobody can call you a bad owner if you give the bird up for the sake of its happiness but if you decide to keep this bird and do not find adequate time and education to give it a better quality of life that is when you can be considered a bad person

Fulvio Zambelli - 2015-07-11 Years ago I raised several cockatoos from the egg. It's a 24/7 commitment but well worth it. I am very interested in a hyacinth macaw egg. I had a pair many years ago and absolutely loved them. I never did get them to breed them before and had to sell them due to a divorce settlement.

She is approx. 12 years old and had a previous owner who was gone leaving the bird along a lot. At first the bird loved me but all of a sudden runs away from me and others in the house that she loved at first. its heart breaking because I love her so much and want her to love us. Don't understand what we did wrong? She does the same to other family members that she was just fine with in the beginning?? I'm so confused about why she is this way? I still spend lots of time talking to her, and let her out of her cage every day, she likes to sit on the top of her cage, but she has her cage in between me and her while I'm spending time with her. Its like she is afraid of me but I never did anything to her.
Kimberly - 2015-08-24 I just recently got an unbrella cockatoo, I was told that it was a female but when I took it in to clip the nails they told me it was a male because of the dark eyes. So we re named him Rocco. So far he has been the greatest pet ever!!! so affectionate and so lovable he gets so excited when I hold him and when he's in my lap. So today the craziest thing happened. Rocko started passing gas it was crazy and I couldn't think of why he was doing that I didn't feed him anything unusual or give him anything that he hasn't had before. As I went to check on him while he was sitting up on his perch I was shocked to find out that he laid an egg!!! To my surprise Rocko is a female after all not a male. So my question is why would she lay an egg after 7 years when she has never laid an egg before? And does it always apply that the males have dark eyes and the females have redish or brown eyes? Well I guess I do know the answer to that question because my female has dark black eyes however laid an egg so it's obviously a female. But why an egg at 7 years old and never laid one before?

Clarice Brough - 2015-08-24 The iris of the females' eyes will often develop a reddish color as they get older while the males' stay black, but that's not always completely accurate, so a DNA test is usually needed to be certain.. It's not uncommon for parrots who have never laid and egg to do so when they are older, even 10 - 15 years or more.

However the presence does not mean anything if you are not of the white cockatoo mob, you must have an understanding of the birds habits and enviroment to have knowledge of this great creature.
