Animal Stories - Rose-breasted Cockatoo

Animal-World Information about: Rose-breasted Cockatoo

The Rose-breasted Cockatoos are not always easy to get but are well worth the effort to obtain. Like most Cockatoos this one is a real friendly bird that needs a lot of love and attention. The feathers are very soft like down which makes them fun to pet. Unlike other Cockatoos these should not be fed a diet of oily seeds, like sunflower seeds.

i have been very interested in all your stories about your beloved rosebreasted parrot, so must tell you mine : >} i have had my lil darling for four years and i just love her to bits, up until five months ago i thought she was a boy, her name is Biggles and now il have to call her BIGGLET, it was like i took the wrong baby home when confirmed she was a girl, anyhow iv gotten over that part;l its taken nearly the whole four yrars for her to become the most loveing little parrot you could wish for, she has lots of outside time and perches in her favorite tree and i let her graze to wich she loves doing, i have come to the conclusion that the more outside time she has the happier she is, at bedtime iget the most loveing little kisses all over my face and soft little purring gurggerly sounds witch just melts my heart, i take her everywhere with me and she loves her car rides im sure she thinks she is flying as she watches the world whizz by, For all those who want a parrot for a pet, a word of warning,,, you must be prepared to put most of your time with your little pal and not leave them locked up in a cage, for they are like little toddlers that need you and need to be loved and handled, the more you love and handle them you will be rewarded tenfold, and not not ever be locked up in a little cage and forgotten about, you will be suprised at how very smart they are,Good luck and god bless

Well i bought my 12 week old galah for $120. it had been hand raised alongside 15 other galahs. I have only had Dags for 2 weeks but he has already become the most lovable creature in the world. he gets a bit testy once he has eaten all of the sunflower seeds out of his parrot mix or when I'm busy typing on the computer, and he comes over and demands that my fingers give him a neck scratch. At night when i go to bed he is so quiet and goes to bed. during the day when i talk to him he responds with some sort of upbeat chirp.

Hi Justin, We have just had 8 painted conures in our aivery but they unfortunatly had to go because of the noise they make. It is a terrible screeching sound and our neighbour has to sleep during the day, it really isn't fair. We was interested in getting a rose-breasted/galah cockatoo but then searched up their noise level and wasn't impressed. How much do they really make is it a horrible squaking or a chirping and tweeting?

I am nine years old and I am looking for a galah or cockatoo as a pet. I live in Adelaide and I would like to know if anyone has one that they would like to give away. I have a cocky cage already. I would be a good carer for it.

I have had my male (had him sexed) rose breasted cockatoo since 2005. He never bit at first, but since last summer when he was boarded for three months he gets aggressive at times. He is not clipped so that he can fly around the inside of the house. The other night he went after a plastic cup that I was holding and I received a big bruise and cut on my wrist. Could he becoming ornery as he gets older? He gets tons of attention. Sleeps in the bedroom with me in his bedroom house. Can someone try to help me out?

You didn't say how old your bird is, it could be a 'teenage' thing. As they become sexually mature, they can go through more aggressive (and childish) behaviors, usually for a year or two. However parrots are amazing, they have an incredible memory and sometimes events can also stimulate a new behavior. So it's really hard to say why she's gotten a bit belligerent at times. You may have to work on some behavior modification.

One approach that often works is to put her in her cage whenever she goes a bit nuts, then walk away and ignore her for a bit (like 10-20 minutes). Give her no recognition at that time. Then approach her with a pleasant, loving attitude and take her out, giving her lots of praise and affection, maybe even a treat. The idea is - no love or attention if she's mean, but plenty of love and attention when she's good. You may have to repeat this for a while until she gets the idea.
