In my opinion, canary birds are for adults (to train). . . Or to be kept in larger cage with mixed species for their playful chatter. Not all male canaries like to sing what humans would call 'a beautiful song'. They are very smart, hence like to improvise song. One of my sweet pets has incorporated car alarm sound, which he adds to his natural daily routine. Canaries are for true bird lovers, yet not 1st bird pet. / i recommend the sweet, quieter bourke's parrot/parrotlet (size of lovebird, tho even more exotic with a falcon face mixed with parrotkeet colouring). Or try diamond dove (which are very gentle) hand held, cooing, 1st pets!

Hi, I have a Lizard Canary I bought from a Breeder, she has a Crest Top..She is Tan in color. She had a brood of 4, 3 tan and 1 Yellow. The father is also a Lizard and is in the cage with all and some Finches...they are very playful.. she is now sitting on 4 more eggs...the others are the size of her and the male and of course eat on their own for some time. I have a question to ask if I may...HOW OLD WILL THEY BE WHEN YOU FIND OUT WHAT SEX THEY ARE? Love these sooo much...

Regarding Lizard CANARY: We have Lizard-Gloster Canaries, and just like our pet Quail, Roosters/Hens, Diamond Dove (and of course other birds and animals)... they will and do play with toys. Our Canaries like Bird toys and Bells. Our Quail interacts with our children and doll houses, Playmobile people, and loves ringing hanging bells. So, I just like to bring up point, sometimes, even though Textbooks and Experts claim many animals have no need for Play (especially past youth), when given a chance... animals interact with other breeds and find trivial items useful as toys for self entertaining. Animals often mimic behavior seen in other animals or people, and then adapt the activity into their daily life. A world renown example are the Monkeys (seen in Asia) which relax and quietly socialize in natural hot-springs. Thank you.
