No I would not try and clean it.  I know sounds awful but they are very protective of their babies and nest box.  The babies might get hurt because the parents try and protect the box.  The 'new smell' might set them off.

You probably know this but with the two females, make sure you have 2 nest boxes. Some folks didn't realize this.

For a long time I have been thinking, when is someone going to breed a nice black canary. I would think in our times with all the lovely colours that we have and are breeding, black should be waiting round the corner just for someone to find. Again it is a matter of selective breeding and maybe colour feeding. Ok it will take some time but I really can see the day we will breed not only black but a true blue canary as well. At least if one of these coloured birds turn up surely nobody is going to say the same stupid thing as dunker and his friends said it was bred from a fertile mule. As we can't use this lame story any more that they used, people are or should be more intellegent nowdays. So hopfully a black or a true blue canary will surface soon.

Hi, I want to ask, I have female red factor canary and 1 dark male yellow and 1 white/ yellow male. They live together then the female built her nest and have some eggs. Today I take some picture of eggs, their color are dark grey, that they are normal or not because I read some website said the normal eggs color light blue. How long will I see the babies

Hi,
I believe the canary is the most beautiful of all captive breed birds. Mine are so precious and so loveable. Each one is such an individual. My favourite is the red factor, I lost my female redfactor a couple of days ago which made me very sad. I have to admit they make a lot of mess on the carpet but the pleasure they give me out weighs the mess they make. Mine are very spoilt, fresh veggies and fruit and prepared treats (homemade). I have all the medicines if things go wrong and I put vitamins and minerals in their water daily.
Trial and error has made my birds healthy and happy as well as reading books and good web pages. My local pet shop is fantastic, they get a wide range of canaries all from good breeders. ENJOY THESE WONDERFUL BIRDS, TREAT THEM WITH THE RESPECT THEY DESERVE.

Only birds bred to the standards and banded with closed, registered American Singer bands can be called American Singers, ...a proven American Singer. If a bird looks similar to how some American Singers may look, but was not bred by a member of the American Singers Club because they would have banded it, and has no band... who knows what it is. (Editor's Note: If you plan to acquire this bird to show, looks like you want to make sure you obtain it from a member of this or another recognized breed club for show acceptance.)

I was at a swapmeet and I saw a bunch of small beautiful, hot and sweaty canaries in a medium cage. They had seed and veggies and water. They were all flying back and forth. I felt so bad for them that I bought a male and brought it home and named him Lucky. Then 2 weeks later I went back and bought a female and called her Luckier. They love anything I feed them and are spunky and fun to look at. I am feeding them required food. They have had 7 babies and are all beautiful and healthy. They both are great parents and love each other and kiss and feed each other.Of course, I don't know what breed or type they are. They look like American Singers. The male sings loud and beautiful to his sweetheart and the babies between 8 weeks and 12 weeks all sing softly together when dad starts to sing. I know I will never be able to band them, but they are beautiful, healthy birds. I'm glad I bought 2 and brought them to a good home. I hope others will buy the others who were so hot, yet spunky. I would never have had these little canaries if I had not gone to this swapmeet and my heart went out to help them. Is there anything I can do to identify my birdies. I don't want to sell them. I will keep them and separate them to stop mating. Mom and dad will stay close in two separate cages.

I have (3) 3 month old male T canaries but they arent singing loud like their dad I was wondering why? Also my female has suffocated her 1 week old babies, why?

The young ones are just too young yet - they should start singing more around 5 - 6 months old as they mature.  The mom probably suffocated the baby by accident.  Too enthusastic to sit the baby or jumped in the nest box too fast or possibly the baby just died and mom tried to sit the baby so it would bealive again.  Some things take practice and learning.
