Ok so I bought a male fantail guppy and he ate the long fins of my betta so my betta started eating his back fins I was told you are able to put them together I have them separated now can I put them in the same tank again or should they just be apart? Also I put my fantail guppy in a tank and every time the bubbles go off he starts swimming really fast and will occasionally dart up and down the side of the tank, but when it goes back on he stops completely just acts like a normal fish. Is this normal?

Don't put them back together because when he said that you can keep guppies with bettas he meant female guppies but you could put them back together. For the bubbles the fish is probably just startled but it could be dangerous to the fish as he could injure himself. If it is one those on off bubble things get rid of it and replace it with a constant bubbler as it will be easier for the guppy to adjust.

Hi,
I think that my guppy is pregnant but she has a pinkish gravid spot. Does this mean that she has already given birth or is she about to?

I have four guppies that I got for my daughter. They are very pretty but they are starting to get black coloring in their fins. What might be the cause of this and how can I fix it?

Depending on the species, it could be a genetic variation. However, it could be a fin/scale disease. Bring in the fish that looks the most affected to your place of purchase, and ask what they think; given you purchased them from a reliable petstore.

Hi,I recently took a trip to the lake by my house and got some pet minnows, they seem to resemble guppies. Any way I instaled an aerator in their tank and it is blasting out bubbles and I have no idea how to control the air flow and it says nothing in the instructions about how to control it. It is an elite799 for a 5 gallon. Please help soon and fast I don't want to loose them.

I am not familar with your filter but there has to be a small wheel or dial that you turn which adjust the amount of bubbles coming from the aerator. Just a small little gadget that turns.

It is possible your female guppy is already carrying babies.
However, if you have a male and female, they will breed in due time. The odds are for them breeding! Good luck!

There are many many plants to choose from but this one plant keeps coming up in questions and in recommendations. It is called the water sprite or Indian Fern. It is supposed to be as hardy as you can get, highly recommended for freshwater tanks. Neat thing is that you can just poke it into the gravel or you can just let it float on top of the tank. It grows and requires pruning as will actually grow over the tank. It is very attractive draws nutrients from the water and tank iteself. Sounds like a great one to start with to me.

TWO OF MY GUPPIES ARE PREGNANT. ARE THERE ANY TELLTALE SIGNS SHE WILL GIVE BIRTH(I DONT WANT TO KEEP THEM IN THE BREEDING ENCLOSURE FOR ANY LONGER THAN I HAVE TO). THERE IS SEPERATE AREA FOR THE FRY TO GO BUT HOW LONG DO YOU KEEP THE MUM WITH THEM. HOW LONG UNTIL SHE BECOMES PREGNANT and GIVES BIRTH AGAIN?

Guppies are pretty much always pregnant.
They are livebearers and the young are live and they eat them. Many fish lay eggs, which are then fertilized externally. Guppies, on the other hand, are inseminated by males. The female utilizes some of the sperm and stores the rest, which she can use for five or six pregnancies henceforth if she so chooses. The gestation period now begins, which will last about 30 days. The female guppy has the eggs and stores the excess sperm, so she can always be pregnant.

You need a baby or growing tank for the little fry guppies. The little fry should remain in the second (or growing tank) until they are pretty much grown and can join in a community tank. You see babies and mom and dad see food. They are carnivores. You don't keep "mum" with them as soon as they are born.

What you want to do is to add o few grains of aquarium salt to the breeder tank. That's always worked with me.

Your aquarium is VERY overloaded. If you don't get rid of some fish your fish will die.

Just remember you should not over grows your tank. Rule of thumb is one inch of fish grown per gallon.

I have over 157 fancy fantail guppies, I have had guppies many times but this time they seem to be better and healthier. I have a 50 lt tank and a 20 lt tank but in my big tank I also have a spotted bristle nose catfish but my guppies seem to pick at him a lot since his mate died nearly six months ago, why is that?

I saw a small fish picking on a big fish that was sick at a pet store. Is your catfish sick or depressed? Look for any signs of these.

Purchase another spotted bristle nose catfish. When a fish loses it's mate, it can become depressed and other fish will pick up on this as a sign of weakness, and will kill it. If you purchase another spotted bristle nose catfish ( opposite six of the one you have) the one you have will improve and will respond positivly to the new arrival.
