I have a question that I am not able to find an answer for. Jethro(my goldfish) flipped himself out of his tank onto the carpeted floor where he was found by my three Chihuahuas. I heard the commotion and hurried to see what was happening. Jethro was stretched out on the floor, not breathing, and minus part of the very top of his tail. I picked him up, saw that he was still alive, dusted him off and put him in his tank. He revived nicely, thank goodness, but he looks odd without that part of his tail. Any chance of it growing back? Please say yes!

Ahah... good news! The fins will probably grow back unless it was nibbled back to far into the caudal penduncle. What a survivor, glad you found him in time.

Hello, I have two goldfish with white spots on their tails and also some parts of their body. I have separated them in a hospital tank, but cannot determine if it is fungal or protozoan infection. It is like white grains on their body. Their eating habits are normal, but they are less active now after I have separated them. What should I do? Please help! Thanks.

Sounds like Ich my friend.  Can be treated with aquarium salt and raising the temps.  Ich can also be treated with numerous Ich meds on the market.

Sounds like about a 25 - 30 gallon tank? Adult goldfish really need a minimum of 20 gallons per fish, but as juveniles 4 could work. Just plan on getting a bigger tank as they grow.

I moved my goldfish to a 100 gallon tank last week. They all are healthy and active, except for one of my calico fantails which started to swim slower and refuses to eat for the past 2 days; yet I don`t see any visible signs of disease on her. Any idea what could cause this?

Fish need to adjust to their new tanks.  May be swimming slower because it doesn't know the tanks boundries yest ans is mentally programed to swim in the smaller tank without thinking, now has more room.

They do swim slower.  Try some pellets.

My calico fantail developed a protozoan parasite problem which I have been treating with Quick Cure for almost a week now. It has been successful in ridding him of the 'gunk' on about a third of his body. Question: how long should I treat with this product and is it safe to try lightly rubbing with cotton tip to remove the gunk? I've been changing his treatment bowl...about a gallon...every night since it gets cloudy. Is this a good practice till he's well?

Most parasites have a life cycle, if you know what the parasite is, maybe you can find out what its cycle is. That would give you a good idea how long to treat. Also, maybe you can find out from the manufacturer suggestions for how long you can safely use their product.

I have 4 fantails one is extremely large now. They seem to stay static for quite a long time. I nearly threw one away once as I thought it was dead dying, but they swim quickly away when you go near the tank. Are they just resting,

These fish do tend to no t move as much as most.  Check water levels, but they are probably acting normal.
