Nile - 2018-04-05 Umm.... hey... i just got a school of 6 tiger barbs yesterday alongside a black ghost knife fish and a duboisi... are they all allowed to be in the same tank? Thanks!
Geoff - 2017-03-15 I purchased a 150L (40 gallons) aquarium, plus existing fish which included 3 serpae tetra. But I discovered that the serpaes were badly bullying the other fish. So then I purchased 4 little emerald green tiger barbs, which clownishly chased the serpaes around the tank until they all got tired and decided to school together. Since then they've all seemed happier and even stopped causing trouble! - Strange thing though: Last night I found my smallest tiger barb dead on the bottom. No sign of what killed him, no fin damage, just a mystery. But I had cleaned the tank earlier, including a 25% water change. Temp had dropped for a little while, but I didn't think too badly. I'm worried that I might've killed him :((
Joe - 2016-04-20 I had a group of 6 barbs, half tiger half green and a group of 3 of gouramis and of giant danios. They did not last more than a week. They all died. I think the gourami th as t was the biggest ate them all. ;(
drew - 2008-03-19 These fish can somtimes be harder to take care of than they look. Once I had around 5 goldfish in my tank and 2 tiger barbs. I had to feed the tiger barbs tropical fish food and my gold fish gold fish food. It took me about an hour every day and by the time the tiger barbs died I only had one goldfish left.

callum - 2015-10-02 I have a 40 gallon tank with 7 tigers, 6 congo tetras, 5 buenos aires, 4 golden barbs, 3 rosy barbs, 5 odessa barbs, 5 corys, 1 brittle nose, 2 mollies, and 1 platy and all have lived happily for 6 months now, keep tiger barbs in a pack , with only the buenos aires swimming the same water parameter and conflict stays between the fish that can give and take
Kito - 2015-10-02 Are they ok to keep them with synodontis catfish?
Click For Replies (1)
Clarice Brough - 2015-10-04 My first thought is, yeah, they should be okay as they Synodontis are bottom dwellers and feeders. But be sure to check out the social behavior of the particular species of Synodontis, because the different species can vary in aggression.
フェレール ジュリアス - 2015-07-13 Is it ok to put 4 tiger barbs,2 fresh angels (1 leucistic colorand 1 marble), 3 bronze corys and 1 common pleco????

Clarice Brough - 2015-07-23 Tiger Barbs, like most barbs are lively and can be fin nippers. They are best kept in groups of 6-7 or more, to keep any nipping within their group. Your angelfish may be at risk to their nipping. The coryadoras and pleco will probably not have any issues though, as they are bottom dwellers.
Anonymous - 2015-09-11 Well my tiger barbs are now 8 but i transfered my cory cats and my angels to an another tank and added 8 zebra danios and the main tank with the tigerbarbs are peaceful now but before i transfered them they are nipping my cory cats but my pleco is safe so is it ok if ill try to put my cory cats back to the main tank???
Brittani - 2015-08-21 If you have a school of 6 tiger barbs and one passes away, how easy is it to just add one back? Will the remaining 5 pick on the new guy? Should you replace with just one or more?? Or is it best to just leave it at 5? 80 gallon tank: 1 green sunfish, 1 small (juvenile) feather fin, few feeder guppies (that haven't gotten eaten yet), and now down to 5 tiger barbs.

Brittani Pittman - 2015-08-23 Just to clarify, they are long fin tiger barbs. The lost one was a jump out, not from illness.
Clarice Brough - 2015-08-24 Barbs are active little nippers, and the reason a school (usually 7 minimum) is suggested is because that keeps them busy chasing each other and not the other fish. The established fish do know their home, and adding another may cause it to get picked on. I would suggest getting 3-4 or so more, and changing up (re-arranging) the environment before adding the new fish. It can also sometimes help to take out the exisiting fish for a couple of hours while the new guys get established, then re-introduce the other fish. This way you are creating a new space which helps put everybody on a more even footing.
Prasanna - 2009-08-04 Thanks for your information on Tiger Barbs. I have 7 of these (one died recently) and they are doing fine in my 20 g tank with One Giant Danio (Very Aggressive), Red Rainbow, Pearl Gourami and Ram Cichlid. Tiger barbs are fun to watch with their fast movements and other fish have no problems from fin nipping. Perhaps 7-8 in group did the magic.
This site is really good and I would love to have profiles of Red Tail Black Shark and Rainbow Sharks.

Tim - 2013-02-14 I have 2 red tail sharks with my 5 tiger barbs as well as a pearl gourami 2 silver dollars and an albino barb. The red tails have been getting along fine with everyone. They have claimed their territory and don't put up with any crap from anyone else and they are fun to watch chase around with the tiger barbs. I have heard though that its a risk buying 2 redtails as one may bully the other to death but I haven't had that problem. I run a 20 gallon tank and could go bigger but everyone seems to be doing fine.
Harry Carter - 2014-06-08 Both of you guys tanks Are WAAAAAAAAAY Too Small. Giant Danios are schooling fish as well as Silver Dollars. To the person that replied, You would need about a 110 Gallon Tank for those fish.
Des - 2012-03-04 I used to have a school of five tigers. But I don't seem to be able to keep a good school, because I always end up with just one left! He's about 2 years old, and is terrorizing my other fish with his fin nipping. I would give him away, but I don't know any healthy tanks with a school of tigers :( He's all alone in my 38g and I don't know what to do with the poor little guy. He's getting a bad rep because he's being a little devil to the other fish. And he's such a beautifully coloured fish, it a sin.

Daniel Estrada Estrada - 2012-03-04 Something is wrong beacuse I have a school of five and they live in a 5 gallon tank. And they live with guppies. There are three and the don't fight or nip. Those kind of fish are nippier. They like to nip long tail of fish and they are aggrisive. Go to you tube and put mad tiger barbs fighting. That is thier behavor.
Jeremy Roche - 2012-03-05 Maybe try to get some larger Tiger Barbs and add to tank to see if they will dominate this guy. Some fish just have bad attitudes. Worth a try.
Flo - 2011-04-10 One of my tiger fish loses color and seems lethargic , then after it eats it regains color and seems its old self?

Charlie Roche - 2011-04-12 The only thing I can find is that frequently the Tiger Barb fish will lose color and become lethargic if stressed. I would read the article on Animal World Fish Diseases and Symptoms. Your Tiger Barb (per you) seems fine after eating. Various articles say to spread food around so all Tiger Barbs get enough to eat. Is it the smallest one? If I get hungary - I am not fit to live with - I would do some more research though and Animal World is a great place o start.

Dorian - 2012-02-09 It is stress... Watch your tank for a bit. See if that fish is getting picked on by another. My smallest green tiger barb was almost white. After I put him in a breeder tank for 72 hrs he came back to fully green color. She still gets picked on by Striker but he knows better than to swim next to him all day long now.

The flashy Tiger Barb is very lively, colorful, and fun to watch!
