durrell loney - 2005-12-08 hey i just got my oscar's about three months ago(pukey&rayray)unfortunatly pukey was beat up by rayray and did not recover. now it's just him and a blue acara who i fear is going to be eatin up by the oscar when i get my new tank which will allow him to grow much larger than the blue acara but i will deal with that when the time comes. other than that they are lovable energetic fish which if not watched and taken care of can be very messy. also they eat alot including smaller fish that they can swallow
sachin reddy - 2005-12-01 hi, i am sachin reddy from bangalore(india). currently i have 2 tiger oscars, 3 albino oscars and 2 plecos in an 85 USgallons tank. one of the albino oscars has only one eye but he is the most active one. they are all around 10 to 14 inches in length. i love them a lot. they are very energetic and intelligent. i have never fed them live feeding fishes as the feeding fishes might have some diseases. they recognise me very well. they swim at a faster rate when they see me. i hope they grow even larger and reproduce. my opinion on oscars is that they are amazing fishes and friends, so go and get one oscar right now into your aquarium.
mamba - 2005-11-27 i had an albino oscar i named Agony. i purchased him many years ago when oscars werent so well known and wow what a pet he was. he grew from 1 1/2 inches to 13 inches quickly. i was able to pet him and he would play with a small plastic cat ball, i would throw it in the tank and he would throw it out. he broke every heater i bought for him. his tank mate was a pleco who learned to hold his own. he also learned to ring a bell for food, and was spoiled rotten. i had him for 5 wonderful years.
I HAVE THREE OSCARS WHICH ARE BLACK IN COLOUR. THEY ARE SO ACTIVE THAT WHEN I CLAP IN EITHER SIDE OF TANK THEY RECOGNIZE ME AND SWIMS IN EITHER DIRECTION. MY OSCARS EAT BOILED EGGS, WORMS, AND FISH FOOD. I LOVE THEM.
Erin beattis - 2005-11-02 i have a 55 gal. tank with a wide variety of fish. when i first got the tank i bought two tiger oscars and two albino oscars. they paired off and were very happy. i had got a dragonfish from one of the pet stores and put him in the tank. by this time the oscars were 8in long and were very aggresive. i had been watching the tiger oscars out of the corner of my eye when all of a sudden one of the the oscars had gotten my dragon fish. the oscar had his head in his mouth and the rest of the dragon made an s shape over the oscars head.
Wilmington - 2005-10-21 Hi i had two red oscars and i bought them about a year and a half, they were like only 3 inches long and i feed them with blood worms. Now one of them is like 24 inches long and the smaller one is like 21.5 inches long. Boy i love feeding them, the bigger one can jump out of the water and eat the food. they had laid eggs before, usually when i feed them with fish(heavily), but i don't get it when the eggs dissapear.
Frank - 2005-08-15 My oscars were Red tiger oscars. they were going really well until i purchased some frozen beef hearts blocks from the fish shop(pet shop). now i haven't got any more oscars and don't really want to replace them, as i got really fond of the male and female i had. they were great eaters. they would eat about 6 guppies each. they also ate worms, pasta, and meal grubs. they were 10 inches long, lived in a 5 foot tank, and had a golden sucker for a tank buddy. boy he learned how to outrun them when they were chasing him. they tried to eat him a few times. hes still alive and well. anyway be careful what food u bye frozen. some batches can be bad and kill your fish.
-[?]- - 2005-07-26 A great fish. mine swallowed 3 rosey reds at a single feeding. me and my friend were betting on it and it swallowed 3 hole. very eager eater, eats almost all the flakes. I give mine other fish. the oscar usually fights with the convict cichlids in my tank, mostly because these cichlids were breeding and guarding their eggs.
Natalie - 2005-07-03 I have had Oscar's on and off for 10 years. A friend of mine normally takes the adults once they have outgrown a 50gallon tank. She owns a 150gallon tank and they love it. They are very intelligent fish, have a hearty appetite, and always seem to keep busy. Most people want fish to be lively colored and Oscar's are not the first on their list. I however think they are brilliantly marked, the albino's, the orange specks, all of them offer a variety of color. The best thing is the personality though. They always seem to "spring" clean, and when they are really hungy they pick up a mouthfull of gravel and throw it at the tank. Gee how appropriate. But I wouldn't trade them for the world. Make sure you read up on them before purchasing one, two, or a bunch. They do grow rapidly and quite big. So be prepared.
A classic in every sense of the term, the Oscar Cichlid has long been heralded as one of the most spectactular and iconic of the aquarium fish!
