Hi everyone I just got a java fern 2 weeks ago and I was wondering if the fish in my tank will eat the small java ferns after it reproduces.

Please I have anglefish bala sharks 1 red tailed shark clown plecos swordtails platys torpedo barbs and zebra danios in my 30 galloon tank

The java fern is a hardy plant that most fish will not eat. Might take a little nibble now and then but the fish probably won't destroy new off shoots.

I have two of these plants and I really like them, but one of them only has leaves at the top....but they both seem to be growing well.

This plant is really pretty but if you aren't a plant expert, you might kill it within the week like I did. I wouldn't consider it hardy.

I love this plant it's probably my favorite and I got it quite by accident as a hitchhiker with some other plants I purchased. I did find it hardy but It seemed to do better with brighter light. It went crazy in my 10 gallon where the light penetrated better. It did okay in my 55 but grew much slower. I suspect with a lighting upgrade its growth would improve but it is healthy just slow growing.

I've been a regular visitor in your website, and I love it. It provides useful information to a hobbyist like me. Upon my research in the internet my particular concern is this plant the water sprite, that it is not a true freshwater aquarium plant, it is a marsh plant not to be planted in the aquarium coz it will eventually die. Which bothers me coz I have newly planted this kind of plant in my aquarium. Is this true? Please help me on this matter. Thanks

The water sprite (also called the Indian Fern plant) is said to be an excellent choice (one of the best) for a fresh water aquarium. Some folks plant it and some just let it float on the top. It grows quickly and absorbs a lot of the nutrients from the water in the tank. It will require pruning if the water tank has good conditions as will grow right out of the tank. Does real well with the guppies, goldfish, neons etc. It is one of the few plants that even work with goldfish as so hardy they can't eat all of it. It is an attractive plant, that grows well and quickly and is highly recommended fro freshwater tanks.

Cabomba is a very nice plant i'm lucky enough to get tons of it here in louisiana at a local pond. i have it mixed in with a low growing water grass that i also get from the pond plus a few other assorted aquatic plants from other ponds in the area. my fish love it. i have a 175 gallon tank full of it my fish breed in it quite nicely. it gets very tall and very lush. its a good starter plant just get a proper grow light bulb and it will do fine. pleco's (alagea eaters) like chewing on it. you can break a long stem into several parts and each one will eventually grow as a seperate plant. can you really eat it?? thats news to me! lol

My cabomba stop growing. All the leaves are falling apart. It started when I cut the stems to replant it. I feel guilty for doing this. Can you please advice me on what to do, to make my cabomba grow again? Thanks.

I have started to put pieces in a container and now have too many and am willing to sell some. Iwouldn't know how to post them.
I have had plants for a long time and had no trouble with them.
Some in tropical tank and some in cold water tank, they grow easily in either. The lights in the tanks go off and on automatically in the aquariums.

I have Pteropus latifolia, great plants for Scalares/Angelfishes...but I didn't know that:they can live on rock pile or driftwood.
I have many new plants of latifolia ....so I know places where to add them.

p.s. I've only 2x50W halogen bulbs from ceiling shooting down to open feeding holes of tank and its OK! Full size leaf in every 25-30day's./pH7.5-8.0

These are essential for a well-planted tank. They also produce hundreds of smaller ferns each year, which you can plant in your tank!

How do you re-plant the smaller ferns in the tank?
Do you wait until the their are at a certain size and then cut them off?
