I have 6 parrots. One female lessor sulfur crested about 14 years old. She just laid me an egg! I didn't think this was a problem with the larger species as opposed to parrotlets or cockatiels. I am not sure what to do. Any suggestions? I will call my vet, but any other insight would be appreciated.

A visit to the vet is important at this time to ensure the health of the bird. What stimulates a parrot to lay eggs is still a mystery, but things like diet and additional summer daylight are known to increase the chances. Generally it is recommended that the bird always has a good diet, but when egg laying provide it with extra calcium and protein as these are known to stimulate egg laying. Reducing the calcium and protein along with a reduction in the amount of daylight can help, but you must be certain the bird is not carrying any more eggs, and a vet can help determine this.

Some cockatoos lay eggs regularly some only once in a while. It has to do with their hormones. Some female cockatoos will actually start masturbating which plays a large part with the egg laying. During this time it is very important how you handle her. Only pet the head and neck area. Do not pet her past her neck as to a cockatoo this is taken as sexual behavior. When she does lay the egg it is very important to give her many nutrient filled goods. Boiled eggs,nuts ect. Also if she is attached to the egg I would leave it in there for two days and then remove it. Hope this helps.

I would not worry, when I first got my ASN he would not eat for a while, then after putting about 10 or 15 sun dried shimps in there he went cray eating all of it. the thing is would hide around the couch so he would not see me. after about 2months heats regularly with me watching..

I need help I have a female swordtail pregnant and am very interested in breeding, I've removed her into a tank,for her birthing but she's has shown signs of significant stress without the male being present the 2 platys in the tank are not showing the same agressive frantic symptoms I need information on how to keep this breed of fish from becoming stressed in its breeding tank, should I keep the male in the tank these fish never had a behavoural issue before I've separated them.
