Do not buy jelly bean, love heart, or other modified/dyed blood parrots. They have a shorter life expectancy and are often inhumanely modified. (love hearts tails are amputated at a young age, jelly bean and other dyed fish have a shorter life expectancy due to the dye. ) new owners be warned. Do your research.

Hello, so I bought two blood parrots today and gradually introduced them to the tank which isnt new I had guppies to get the system started, well they were fine when I released them but now they are laying on their sides behind a plant and breathing rather shallow.. what could be wrong? Should I do epson baths and feed them peas? I dont know.. please help.

if it has diseases learn more info at blood parrot, fish diseases. : )
  • Clarice Brough - 2014-11-13
They are a little shy, but they do sound stressed. Check for any signs of disease or any other things that could stress them. Guppies aren't territorial, but make sure there aren't any other fish that could be intimidating them. The tank does need to be large enough and have enough decor (plants/rocks) with places for them to hide. Make sure your temperature and the water quality parameters are all good. If there's any ammonia or other factors out of sorts,  a partical water change may help. If everything with the tank seems fine, then I would subdue the lights and give them some time to acclimate.

Test your water and add an air stone.

Can I put blood parrot and flowerhorn together...

No, the Flowerhorn cichlid is way too aggressive to keep with any others, but both hybrids make nice displays kept singly.

No, he is not native to So. California, so must have been someone's pet. Please don't release him, rather take him to a pet store that deals in reptiles. They should be able to take him in and find a new home for him.

pls contact me 773-490-4669 I will be willing to even pay for shipping I have a three toed box male turtle that is very lonely and I haven't gotten any good luck on finding any in Illinois.

I also found a 3 toed box turtle,a female, who has been with us for about 6 years now.We also live in So. Cal.,and no she's not a native. So don't release the one you found, because his chances for survival are slim at best.If you are not going to keep him please contact me,my myrtle is lonely. She likes to eat corn, pears, mangos, and her all time favorite is snails. We rescued her from a waste water outlet, and she had 4 holes that someone had drilled into her side, that took 3 years to heal. She's very shy,and spends a lot of time hiding.

Hello! I found a baby and raised it, got it on people food and puppy food, grapes and many other things... I had it in a big cage and taught it to go in the litter box...she is 4 or 5 months old, 3 days ago I let her go up a tree and she only comes half way down and goes way up high to the very top... Do you think she will come back? I put out food and water, she knows me BUT! she seems afraid to come done the straight tall tree from 25to 30 feet then goes back up...The tree is right by my house and raising her from a bottle and acting like her mom do you think she will come back to me....shes been up in the tree 3 to 4 days now eating leaves and bark....If she gets hungry or thursty do you think she will come down? AND its gonna rain will that tempt her to come home and out of the weather.... Please get back to me with any answers My e-mail is lenmirandy5@aol.com Thanks for your time and cooperation, I miss her so much....

Just bought my first cowfish today he's about 4 inches long and very different looking. My kids and I like him everything seems to me going alright for now my other fish aren't harassing him too much. He's in an aggressive tank and he came from an aggressive tank with a clown trigger. I've read the horror stories hope I'm not going to be the producer of one.

Article attached and sometimes agressive and sometimes not - keep an eye out. If it will fit in his mouth - he will probably eat it
  • Dani - 2017-03-24
Hi..been six years since you wrote this.. How's your cow fish doing? I'm taking one home as we speak and also going in an aggressive tank..all the experience I have read have said theirs never release any toxin when stressed or when they died ..and a marine biologist said their reputation is a myth..
  • Eliza - 2017-09-11
Hey! How's it going with the cowfish? I hope your fishes still aren't harassing the little guy too much... I bet it's okay for him to be harassed a LITTLE, but you know, i hope that it is NOT TOO MUCH! Make sure the harassment isn't about how different looking he is.
