How old should the female be before there ready to breed? Or does it matter on size and colors that are shown. I have 3 females that are 5 to 8 months old and are all showing the colors described above. Also they are all about the same size the youngest one is actually growing faster then the others. I was just wondering what everyones opinion is on the subject. Thanks

They don't reach sexual maturity until at least 7 months. The coloration when gravid can vary, but if a female turns dark, that indicates she is not receptive to mating.

Female Panther Chameleons are able to breed at 7 months.

28 gallons is big enough as the cow fish will supposedly be 20 inches as an adult. Figure one inch of fish (as an adult) for each gallong of water. 20 inches so at least 20 gallons as you have to subtract for plants and flooring and decorations. Leave your question up and I would look into this a little more cuz some say problems with these nano cubes.

No. 28 gallons is not big enough. The Longhorn Cowfish needs at least 100-150 gallons at full length. Even as a baby 28 gallons won't be big enough and he will probably die and poison everything else in your tank.

I've heard that your cowfish has growing A LOT!!! I'm not sure if that is normal. Maybe bring it to a vet.

Eliza is definitely right. You know what they say... the smaller the better!

Hahaha! Thx for supporting my comet Kristy! The smaller the better is always correct when it comes to fishees

I was reading some of the posts and I can't believe how many people felt the same way as me about their squirrels. I had a black male squirrel and we were so bonded that i knew exactly what he wanted with his different noises. I had him potty trained and he followed me around the house. I recently lost him and was so depressed, that i couldn't eat or sleep. I cry everyday thinking about him. I would keep my robe on and he would sleep inside or on the back of my neck while i did things around the house. When he would wake up, he would climb up my shirt and give me a kiss (a lick). I am trying to find another one i could bond with (hopefully). If anyone has a 4-5 week old squirrel in or near michigan, please let me know. I don't know if will be possible since they just had their breeding season. I would prefer not to wait until next breeding season, but i will if i have to, to get one that young. Thank you so much.

Going back to my younger days. Would love to parent german rollers again. Live in norather Virginia by Dulles airport. Would like 2 quality birds of each sex. As pretty as other canaries, there is nothing to compare to the roller song.

My golden severum seems to be more aggressive always, as it fights with my albino tiger oscars and tinfoil barbs. Is there any remedy to stop this activity..

I have a 4 inch jack dempsey in a 120 gallon with blood parrot, angelfish, Texas, convict, severum, kissing gourami, and firemouth. He gets along fine with everyone but him and the convict will scuffle over territory... The quarrels are often lite with no lip locking or damage. He will move the kissing fish with his body, never a bite.. He will also push away the Texas cichlid again never bites.... As far as the other semi aggressive cichilds, he will swimming next to them even as close as rubbing bodies with them. He accepts them and doesn't see them as threats.

My female blood parrot is hiding under the filter and I'm starting to worry about her, she laid eggs 5 days ago and has been digging holes everywere and going around checking on the holes and then spitting eggs into the holes, only a few eggs turned white, the rest were tanned colour but didn't notice the black dot on them, her and the male ate the bad looking eggs last night and now she won't come out from under the filter, she's not stuck, I'm to scared to go into the tank and chase her out in case she stresses out and I get bitten and fish slapped. Help?

Your female sounds fine, but it always amazes me, the interesting behaviors that animals display when they are in breeding mode. I wouldn't worry though, just let nature take its course (the female is doing what she deems necessary). And yeah... maybe keep your hands out of the aquarium unless you need to remove the eggs or do other maintenance. That will help reduce any additional stress on her.

I have a 5-6 inch parrot ciclid and convert to a deep orange to a mild yellow once I turn lights on. What's up? There is another parrot ciclid that 4-5 inches that the same color all day. Could they be 'mating'? Of course they pick the gravel all day and disbrute it around the tank. Thanks Randall

They could be mating, all that rock cleaning is an indication of that. But many Blood Parrot Cichlids will change color with age as well, this is presumably because of  the Midas or Red Devil Cichlid parentage. Both of these cichlid species are known to change coloration as they mature.
