"I used to have a few pairs of female and male bettas. The veil-tailed variety. I thought that if i let the male and females of the same colour mate, the baby bettas would be the same colour as well. However, I noticed within the first few weeks after the eggs hatched, that the baby bettas we infact a different colour from the parent bettas. Also, it is definately true that bettas are one of the more difficult fishes to breed. Firstly, the male has to accept the female and not kill her. After that, you have to worry that you do not keep the male in the tank with the fry for too long. He may start eating them. Lastly, you have to worry about the food to feed the tiny fry. After a few weeks more, you have to seperate the young fry. Not an easy task. It is also true that males cannot be kept together. However, female bettas can be kept together. "
