"Margaret Garret, I just found this site and don't know if you are still seeing the parakeet in your back yard. The little bird you are seeing is probably a domestic parakeet that was purchased locally and has escaped from its home. He will not survive in the wild. Though parakeets exist in the wild in Austrailia, they are a hardier breed. If possible, try to gently capture this little bird. Do not be afraid; he is quite small and really cannot hurt you. Use a small towel if you need to. Before doing this, get a small cage, if possible, and put some water and seed mix into it. Parakeets are very lovable; if no one claims him, he will make an adorable fun little pet."
