"We rescued a young parakeet about 1-1/2 yrs. ago. Little budgie could barely fly. An associate of mine at work trapped him at our work and offered me custody (knowing that I love birds). So, having exclusively had cockatiels all my life (which we have none of now), I am unsure of to how to deal with this bird. My cockatiels were sociable, liked to hang out with us and the grandkids, kiss and explore. Little Petey Parakeety remains shy and standoffish, even tho' I drape a hand in the cage and ignore him, (hoping for inquisitivnous). This is working slowly, (as do all bird trust issues). So we go on. The major issue has become the screeching at dawn in my wifes dressing room. We have alleviated that by moving the cage to qnother room. I found a website that provides parakeet songs and calls. He seemed fasciinated for a while then, bored. Now that I turned the volume down, He's staring at the screen again. Question is; Does this audio/visual input (Yeah I turn the monitor towards the cage) help or hinder the birds pyschological health? When we have the the cage out in the ' Living areas', we leave his door open. Yet he rarely ventures to the open door. When startled, he'll fly around the house a couple of times, light somewhere and let me pick him up and transport him home. Any thoughts? Thank you. Steve J."
