Hey, I love your website. I've been researching and it's the most info I've found, and it's so helpful. I have one sugar glider...Sugar...she is so playful. I'm looking forward to getting another one or get her some more toys later today. She is really heathy. We feed her fruit, baby food, and bugs everyday. She's pretty tame and your website was full of info... Thanks KyLiE...

I am the owner of 3 sugar gliders. The intact males are very smelly giving off a strong odor. The females do not really smell at all. They are a lot of work, they need fresh food, veg, fruits, etc. I live in a large home with a large dog so I do not allow them out of their cage to roam free instead, I got a small camping tent with some toys in it so that they can play. The barking can get quite loud as well as the sound of them running in the wheels at night. They are very active and depending on the personality of the glider, can be nippy. They are great pets if you do not mind the mess. They do urinate and deficate frequently while climbing on your person, so if you do not mind these things they make great pets. They bond to you and look for you once they wake up. Please consider all these things before adopting. When I first got mine I researched for 2 years and I still wasn't completely prepared. Listen to your breeder for most of your information

I have a question. I have a baby glider 6 weeks out of the pouch. He is loosing his fur. he has lost all on his under side an now his legs. I have been giving him apples an glider chow an bread. He eats fine. I thougt he was dehdrated an I have been giving him gatorade an distilled water. He drinks it. I don't know what is wrong with him. Our heat rock broke so we were without one for a while. I have gotten another heat rock an the littlr guy loves it. Has anyone else had one loose their fur?please comment back.I'm desperate.

Hi my names Ivy! I'm 19 and choosing a sugar glider rather than a baby. I sorta agree with the crazy lady. The pet isn't for a lazy child who will neglect them but I wouldnt go so far as to say that not a single child can have one because they'll get lazy. Just make sure you've done the reseach and are ready to put time and love into it! Your website has been a very good source! Thanks so much for the free info!

I have a question. I am getting my twin sugar gliders today and I dont get how I can get them both to know who is Bella, and who is Daisy?

Hi, my name is Lily. I love sugar gliders. Are they good pets? If you are a sugar glider breeder than call 6022605 or 6475163. I might get a sugar glider soon, I don't know when.

You do not have to bathe your sugar gliders. They should clean themselves by the time they are eating fruits and vegetables on their own. Before that you should clean them with either an unscented baby wipe, or you could dip them in the sink or use a wet toothpick on their dirty spots. Make sure to wrap them up after they are wet though, as they will get cold quickly. Do not let go of them if you dip them in the sink, this will prevent drowning. Although sugar gliders can swim they cannot swim for long, which is why you should always keep your toilet lid down. :) -Melissa

A HUGELY IMPORTANT thing to know is the following: Anything and everything dry that your sugar glider eats may contain aflatoxins. This is a type of mold to which humans are completely immune. A fantastic example is dry corn which is loaded with the stuff. Some of it can even be seen in the red flecks on the corn pieces. It also frequently shows up in catfood, where it is mostly invisible. It only takes a few hours for the mold to develop. Anything that is not frozen can have aflatoxins in it, and if it wasn't frozen before you bought it, there's a good chance that the mold is still there. Your glider will have hideous siezures and tremendous trauma to the esophogus (from vomitting) and to the head (from siezures). If you catch it within the hour, your vet may be able to reverse the effects. You can search for an experienced forum to join to get constant information because if you put it off, you may be too late by the time you need help. Some people ignore the cries of the experienced owners because they think they can handle it. These are NOT hamsters or kittens. They are exotic marsupials that require more attention than your average toddler. Before you buy a sugar glider, meet one in person. Better yet, volunteer to care for one. It will also give you some experience properly caring for sugar gliders before you purchase one. It will give you enough time to learn about them. If your sugar glider dies before age 10, you did not provide a healthy/safe environment for it.

This advice rules and I was not about to get one until now! This is one of the best websites yet and I really am looking foward to breeding. I have not gotten one yet but in 2 or 3 weeks, hello mama! I dearly love this website and hope to breed, well thanks to YOU! I might name the boy Thunder, and if the girl is white, Hello Lightning!

I have a 10 X 10 outdoor aviary that I house my gliders in. In the winter I wrap the outside in heavy duty clear plastic and run a thermostat controlled heater inside that hangs from the center of the roof. I set it to run warm air instead of hot so they have never been burned. It works great and they have plenty of room to run around. Remember that they would live outside in the wild so I tried to replicate those conditions. I have a feeding platform, plenty of large tree branches and a nesting box for them to sleep in. I don't recomend this in places that it is very cold or damp, as that makes it very difficult to keep a consistent climate for them. I have had gliders for 15 years and take in rescues in my area. My oldest glider lived to be over 11 years old. I did bring her inside her last year since she was very unstable and prone to falling.

I barely knew anything about my favorite animal, you told me so much more about sugar gliders. Thanks!

Suggies are animals that need a lot of dedication. Before getting one make sure you have everything set up. Glider proof any rooms that the glider will be in, make sure you have a bonding pouch, and prepare the money to buy two. After getting your sugar gliders, you should use the pouch for them to sleep in for a while. This way, during the day, their easy to remove to carry around. Another idea is get a shirt and attach a pocket to it. Wear it a few days prior to buying the suggies and after that, let them sleep in the pocket for the first week. This way, they get very accustom to your scent and think will help bonding greatly. Still, you must take the shirt out every day and keep it with you. Either wear it or carry it with you. Wearing a shirt many days in a row many not sound like the most fun thing in the world, but it works well. Another piece of advice is for when you have to go away for vacation or something similer. A week before you have to go, put a pillow case on one of your pillows. A cheap one since your going to lose it. After the week, when your sending them to your petsitter, tie the case into knots and give it to them. Because its smothered with your scent, this will make the separation a little easier because then they feel as if their human isn't that far away. A recording of your voice may be a good idea as well. Diet wise, I feed my babies Leadbeater mix (Look it up if you don't know what it is, it has supplaments and stuff in it.) and either fresh food or baby food. I find gerbers DHA food a very good choice. Its sweet, has fruit, and is well enriched with many good things for them, calcium especially. One thing that can't be stressed enough is making sure they get plenty of calcium, it is deadly for them if they don't.

my suger glider pressus is 8 weeks old. she crabs when i get her out. the male one trys to bite some times when i get him out. they play a lot. they are noisey and they love to stay in your shirt pocket. yesterday i had them in the bonding pouch, and as soon as i walked in my room they smelled my rat. they looked out of the pouch and started crabbing at her, she was in a cage. they are both 8 weeks old they can tell when the weather is changing, they are jumpy when the weather is changing. i love them both. your site helped me alot, thanks

my 2 suger gliders are nice but loud at night. one of mine shakes some. i've had them for 3 weeks, i got a male and a female. i hold them 3 hours a day. i feed them grated apples and food pellets so far, i just now started feeding them grapes. i heard they can live for 20 years with proper care and to never pull them by the tail because it can come right off. they bite, and when they do it sure hurts. when they are scared they pop and pee. mine have a hammock to sleep in, they love it. you all taught me a lot about suger gliders. jess

jess 2007-02-19

when you bring your pet suger glider home, keep it in the cage for 1 day so it can calm down. when handling the suger glider be patient with your new pet. dont be suprised if it crabs at you, it will be scared, to it you are like a giant. you need to let it out to play oce a day but you need to glider proof your room. make sure all the plugs are unplugged so if they chew on them it won't hurt them. if you let them play in the bathroom, make sure the lid is down or they might fall in the toilet and drown because they can't get out. if you go on vacation, make sure other people take care of it. they can eat fruits, insects, and pink mice. they can get 8" long and can live for 20 years with proper care. You can feed them nuts, but they are high in fat. They are not shy about mating in front of you when breeding. you need a license to breed from the Department of Agriculture. it may cost $30 to buy but you will also need to have a vet check on them so it may cost around $100 to $200 to breed them and to sell them. if you lose one of the gliders, the other one may cry every night, get depressed, and die if you don't get another glider. it will be about 4 to 8 weeks when you can hold the babies.

jess 2007-02-19

i have 2 pet suger gliders, they are noisy at night. they are a pocket pet but if you try to reach you hand in the pocket they may crab and bite. you should clean the cage once a week. they can find out how to open the cage, they are smarter then a squirrel. they can glide up to 200 feet. never pick them up by the tail because it may come off. the body temperature is around 65f - 75f. they play a lot. suger gliders will not use a litter box and they can not be housed trained. they love to roll around in a rat ball. you need to handle them for 3 hours a day. when taking the glider outside, put a leash on them. poisonous house plants are amarylis, american yew, azalea, balsam, pear, banberry, bird of paradise, and many more plants. if you go on vication make sure you know some one to take care of them, they may bite strangers. they love to eat insects and pink mice, and they may think of a hamster as a treat. do not feed them cat food as it is high in fat. their bodys can not take fat, it may kill them. there are a lot of different diets. like your website, it gave me good information

jess 2007-02-19

my suger gliders are doing great. they are eating right and i give them vitamins once every other day. i hold them once a day. mine are really nice, i got a male and female suger glider. they are noisy some times in the day and most of the time they are noisy at nighttime. They make a barking noise, a chattering noise, and a crying noise. never pull them by the tail, it may come off. thanks for the information, it will help me take care of them. i hope everyones glider lives a happy life. bye

jess 2007-02-19

Thank you so much. I've decided to get sugar gliders but wasnt sure how to set up the cage or if i could get just one or what to to get. you answered all of my questions and then some, thanks again. i've been looking for information and this is just so complete, it really helped. i now know two males would be alright and thats the plan! I'm looking so forward to picking them out, setting up their home and bonding with them.

I just got a sugar glider for christmas and she is 4 months old and i absolutely love her. i also like your site. very informative.

Mallory 2007-01-27

i love sugar gliders. we have 4 of them and we know that they are happy, but i like your website because it gives a lot of facts like how long they are and other stuff. Thank you for imformation.

Heidi 2007-01-10

Sugar gliders are the best pets. You must be patient with them, take your time, they WILL bond to you, it just takes time (as with any animal), don't be so quick to give up. I highly recommend that you buy two. The way 2 of them interact is very entertaining. Also when you go out of town and have someone watch them, you don't have to worry about them getting there 1-2 hours of play time each day from a human.

Hey, you guys are awesome! if it weren't for you I wouldn't know nearly as much about sugar gliders as I do now. so thanks! for teaching me a ton of stuff. oh ...did I tell you that if it weren't for you I wouldn't have gotten 100% on my essay on gliders?.......well now you know!

Heather 2006-06-17

This web site has taught me ALOT about sugar gliders. I am planning on getting one for christmas this year because i asked my parents and they said yes. They are so cute I cannot wait to get. I love them to death. I will write here again after i get one!

Your site has been very helpful to us. Because of Katrina and Rita our phones are not reliable. We have 3 males and a female, that just had 2 joeys yesterday. They are adorable! Thank you for the information on your site as we were unable to contact the breeder we normally do business with.

Sugar Gliders are certainly sweet and friendly little babies. They need a specific diet, and you must spend quite a bit of time with them. I love my angels - two 6 month old boys, and a year old girl. The little girl was very nippy at first (previous owner was terrible) and one of the boys had his tail ripped off by a dog. They were both terrified and slept 24/7. With time, a bonding pouch and a tent to play in, they have become the sweetest little things! I would recommend gliders only to night people who've done extensive research on the care and keeping of these creatures.

I have wanted an animal that was different than a dog or a cat. I wanted something kind of exotic and not too many people heard about. I went to a pet store and saw the sugar gliders that they had and fell in love with them. I came home and started to learn more about them. I kept begging my mom to get one. I bribed her once when my sister moves out with her dog I can get one. I am so glad she said yes I love her. I have only had her for a little over a year. They are so fun and adorable to have. She loves crawling up behind my neck and just sitting there under my hair or crawls under my shirts and sleeps. I think I would recommend someone to get one of these adorable pets. They are not that hard to take care of you do not need to take them to the vets and get shots or anything, like you would a dog.

the web site is great
