My son got me a sugar glider for my 59th birthday. I'm a diabetic (no sugar) so named her Splenda Glider. I ADORE her! She is the most interesting, cute, smart, cuddly pet ever. I'm an early riser and that makes for fun bonding. Now my son has purchased two more females and eventually we hope to acquire a male. She is so sweet.

carol 2009-10-03

I currently own 3 gliders but I owned my female for two years and it was just her and she did fine. If your glider is well bonded to you and you spend lots of time with it it will not die of lonlieness. And I bought Mina when I was 16yrs old, so it's not all teens that can't take care of them. My two males, Alton and Big Head, were a bonded pair of males that I added to Mina this past month. They are all getting along fine and Alton and Mina actually mated about a week ago, so I'm waiting to see the results. Wish me luck!

Hey, I love your website. I've been researching and it's the most info I've found, and it's so helpful. I have one sugar glider...Sugar...she is so playful. I'm looking forward to getting another one or get her some more toys later today. She is really heathy. We feed her fruit, baby food, and bugs everyday. She's pretty tame and your website was full of info... Thanks KyLiE...

kylie 2009-08-04

Im very sorry to say but I have noticed a few things, most of you guys and this site recommended a leash 1. If your suggie is bonded to you tightly in the first place your not gonna need a leash because if and the glider has bonded correctly and you take your pet out it will want to stay with you no matter what. When you leash your glider you are risking hurting it's gliding membrane. Imagine harnessing your glider buddy and it decides to leave your shoulder to glide a good distance and it glides the distance that the leash allows, all of a sudden there's resistance that pulls on that membrane, imagine how painfull that is!! If your a glider owner you should know better!

I am the owner of 3 sugar gliders. The intact males are very smelly giving off a strong odor. The females do not really smell at all. They are a lot of work, they need fresh food, veg, fruits, etc. I live in a large home with a large dog so I do not allow them out of their cage to roam free instead, I got a small camping tent with some toys in it so that they can play. The barking can get quite loud as well as the sound of them running in the wheels at night. They are very active and depending on the personality of the glider, can be nippy. They are great pets if you do not mind the mess. They do urinate and deficate frequently while climbing on your person, so if you do not mind these things they make great pets. They bond to you and look for you once they wake up. Please consider all these things before adopting. When I first got mine I researched for 2 years and I still wasn't completely prepared. Listen to your breeder for most of your information

My friend had a sugar glider and it died. I never knew what a sugar glider was until I went to this website. They are cute. But I am getting a ferret when I move! Like london says... YAY ME!

I have a question. I have a baby glider 6 weeks out of the pouch. He is loosing his fur. he has lost all on his under side an now his legs. I have been giving him apples an glider chow an bread. He eats fine. I thougt he was dehdrated an I have been giving him gatorade an distilled water. He drinks it. I don't know what is wrong with him. Our heat rock broke so we were without one for a while. I have gotten another heat rock an the littlr guy loves it. Has anyone else had one loose their fur?please comment back.I'm desperate.

Debby 2009-06-29

Lenny you said if your glider dies before 10 you did not provide a good and healthy enviroment. My friends glider died before ten because she broke her back trying to get her baby off of herself.

Mike 2009-04-06

Why do adults think that all teens are dumb and don't care, it's really unfair. Teens can be realy responsible, it's only a small number that give the rest of us a bad name. I'm getting a sugar-glider soon so use your brain before you open your mouth!

ellie 2009-04-05

Hi, I just purchased my two gliders from a teenage boy that got tired of taking care of his gliders. So yes some teenagers might tire of all the work, but not all teens are the same. While they were in his custody as his pets he did properly care for and provide for them and did make sure to find them a good loving home when he got tired of them. I guess it would have to depend on the teenager who was purchasing them. As a parent, good grades, a showing of follow-thru on the teens part would be huge factors in considering letting my child own a sugar glider. Also for the sugar gliders sake I would make sure that there were 2 gliders(of the same sex to prevent breeding) to keep eachother company in case my child did not spend enough time with them(they can DIE of lonliness) YES They can actually die. As a parent it is your responsibility to check the cleanliness of the cages and make sure that they have food and water and proper care.

Hi my names Ivy! I'm 19 and choosing a sugar glider rather than a baby. I sorta agree with the crazy lady. The pet isn't for a lazy child who will neglect them but I wouldnt go so far as to say that not a single child can have one because they'll get lazy. Just make sure you've done the reseach and are ready to put time and love into it! Your website has been a very good source! Thanks so much for the free info!

Ivy Love! 2009-03-30

My name is Wendy Brennan and I just visited this site and read the commets as I am getting 2 suger gliders and would like the information about what to do. I have been doing research about them. I have volunteered at a wildlife park and have some knowledge about that. Thank you.

Wendy 2009-03-18

I'm about to be 16 in the next few days. and my mom bought 2 sugar gliders. I have been wanting one for over a year now. One is pregnant. So therefore my sugar glider is in her tummy, :D. See now I saw what that lady wrote, and really no. I don't like how she thinks we will get lazy. Now maybe thats what will happen with your kids or even YOU but I'm sorry to break it to you, I have 4 other brothers and sisters who also take turns taking care of our precious animals. Even my mom. So you should really chill because not all teens are lazy and careless... you don't know us.

Eli 2009-02-16

Relax lady. I think it's a little harsh to say this is disturbing that kids have them. I'm sure the parents are around, hence the fact they are 150 dollars.

Felicia 2009-02-12

I just want to say I find it disturbing that kids are even allowed to own sugar gliders. When I got mine, I was deciding between having another child, or owning a pair of sugar gliders. Because if cared for properly, they are almost as much work. The amount of time I spend on their food alone is too much work for a child to keep up with. You should be spending at least six hours with them per day. These are not hamsters. They require a lot of time and attention. I mean, I'm reading comments from children who have to be in bed before their sugar gliders even wake up. What ends up happening with most of these poor babies, is that after the 10-15 year old gets sick of all the work they have to do, they either stop doing it, and the sugar gliders die, or they have to find a home for them, which is hard on any sugar glider, especially one that hasn't been given the proper amount of attention. Just think about after you've gotten a dog or cat, as a kid. At first it's a blast, but after a while you don't want to walk her, and even putting dry food in her bowl is too much work. Don't get me wrong, I totally adore my babies, and wouldn't give them up for the world. However, this is not a child's pet.

Trish Houston Texas 2009-01-28

Hey, I am 13 and I just got 2 sugar gliders. They are Sam and Frotto. I learned a lot from the web so I am thanking you guys for helping people. Because if not, I might not have learned to take care of them the right way!!:-)

Courtney 2009-01-17

I have a question. I am getting my twin sugar gliders today and I dont get how I can get them both to know who is Bella, and who is Daisy?

Amanda 2009-01-08

I really love how you told me all of that stuff that I need to know, because I'm only 10 and I really badly want a sugar glider. But now I can make sure I'm ready for one, good job.

Amie 2008-12-20

Oh my god this website rocks, I love it! I've always wanted a Sugar Glider they're SO cute and cuddly. I've been doing some research on these cute little guys. I'm hoping to get some soon. p.s. Your lucky to have such sweet Sugar Gliders like them.

Jennifer 2008-12-14

For the most part I thought it was pretty good, however I do have one statement, sugar gliders can't be leashed. They risk injuring themselves. The reason they can injure themselves is the tissue on their side is very delicate and can be cut by the leash.

Ryan Lupi 2008-12-05

Hi My friend has a few sugar gliders as pets, but recently one of the male gliders has a wound in his neck. And the weird thing is that it had happenend before, but that male has healed just fine. I'm a bit worried about that little guy so I was wondering what I could do for my friend and his glider. Note: The surrounding area of the wound is bald and in a perfect circle. The wound itself isn't really big. And there is nothing in the cage that could make that wound I believe.

anoniem 2008-11-11

It sucks, Pennsylvania doesn't allow any sugar gliders hope. I'll move again soon.

Hi, my name is Lily. I love sugar gliders. Are they good pets? If you are a sugar glider breeder than call 6022605 or 6475163. I might get a sugar glider soon, I don't know when.

Hi, I'm Sarah. I live in flippin' Ar. I'm totally wanting one of these but they are like 150 dollars! Plus $30 for a cage and then food and flooring for them. Crazy huh? Well, I guess I am getting a job! lol

sarahc 2008-05-20

I am a sugar glider breeder and I'm 14. I breed greys, wfb, and red. I love my gliders and can't express how important it is to know what you are getting into. I for one enjoy every minute of it, but for some people, they just can't handle it. That is why there are so many for sale, its not because too many people breed them. I have fun with it while I see my gliders enjoying it too. I have done a ton of work on my gliders cages and play areas also, to keep everything as safe and as happy as possible. I LOVE MY GLIDERS

Anonymous 2008-05-17

You do not have to bathe your sugar gliders. They should clean themselves by the time they are eating fruits and vegetables on their own. Before that you should clean them with either an unscented baby wipe, or you could dip them in the sink or use a wet toothpick on their dirty spots. Make sure to wrap them up after they are wet though, as they will get cold quickly. Do not let go of them if you dip them in the sink, this will prevent drowning. Although sugar gliders can swim they cannot swim for long, which is why you should always keep your toilet lid down. :) -Melissa

They are wonderful creatures, but not for everyone. www.sugarglider.net is a great place to learn about caring for your sugar gliders. Michelle H.

Hiya, I'm a 12 year old girl and I think this animal is amazing! I have come on this website to have a look at all the different animals there are because I am wanting to start an animal holiday care for all small animals and I came across these. I have a dog and we used to have lots of other animals, but they died last year, and before we also had budgies. I would love to look after one of these animals but I don't think there would be one in the area. jena

A HUGELY IMPORTANT thing to know is the following: Anything and everything dry that your sugar glider eats may contain aflatoxins. This is a type of mold to which humans are completely immune. A fantastic example is dry corn which is loaded with the stuff. Some of it can even be seen in the red flecks on the corn pieces. It also frequently shows up in catfood, where it is mostly invisible. It only takes a few hours for the mold to develop. Anything that is not frozen can have aflatoxins in it, and if it wasn't frozen before you bought it, there's a good chance that the mold is still there. Your glider will have hideous siezures and tremendous trauma to the esophogus (from vomitting) and to the head (from siezures). If you catch it within the hour, your vet may be able to reverse the effects. You can search for an experienced forum to join to get constant information because if you put it off, you may be too late by the time you need help. Some people ignore the cries of the experienced owners because they think they can handle it. These are NOT hamsters or kittens. They are exotic marsupials that require more attention than your average toddler. Before you buy a sugar glider, meet one in person. Better yet, volunteer to care for one. It will also give you some experience properly caring for sugar gliders before you purchase one. It will give you enough time to learn about them. If your sugar glider dies before age 10, you did not provide a healthy/safe environment for it.

Lenny 2008-04-29

We purchased two Sugergliders just before Christmas from a private seller. They gave us plenty of information and we had searched the net for three months before we got them. We would have liked to have adopted, but we are located up north in the Peace River area of Alberta, Canada. They have been breeding for the past seven days. This site has plenty of information and has been helpful in adding to what we were already told. The only thing no one states or has said is if they need some sort of cleaning method. I have owned and still own several animals; ferrets, hamsters, hedgehogs, fish of all sorts, cats, and dogs, never mind all the outside critters I have. So my question is this, if anyone knows whether we bath them or supply some sort of sand, due to they can not have water around,(they will drown). Please post on this site, this would be most helpful. They both look clean, but sometimes get sticky from the fruit. Thanks

Kathy Boyle 2008-03-09

Sugar gliders usually don't make as good of pets as one would like to think they do. Some suggies never even bond to thier owner, regardless of the time & effort put into the relationship. Another thing, if you're thinking of breeding yours...DONT! There are TOO MANY homeless suggies, look at online classifieds if you don't believe me. If you breed your suggies, then you are adding to the problem. Peace out.

Lorelai Chaos 2008-02-28

I have a lovely male sugar glider. His name is Nike and I'm hoping to get a female very soon to start breeding them, so I can spread their joy to everyone I know =].

This advice rules and I was not about to get one until now! This is one of the best websites yet and I really am looking foward to breeding. I have not gotten one yet but in 2 or 3 weeks, hello mama! I dearly love this website and hope to breed, well thanks to YOU! I might name the boy Thunder, and if the girl is white, Hello Lightning!

Lauren 2007-12-30

Well I now have 2 beautiful sugar gliders, and I love them. I had a friend who wasn't able to keep her sugar gliders anymore and I offered to take care of them. I was nervous at first, but once I was able to handle them I grew more and more attached. I have a male and a female, and she is getting ready to have babies. I have only had them for a week and I am so excited. They do take a lot of time and care. Be gentle and give lots of love, and you will be set.

Desiree Parker 2007-12-15

I've had a Sugar Glider before, but Sadly he died. I never Found out why, but we think it was because of the kind of shavings he had. But now im trying it again and just today got another boy, and my sister got a girl. We want them to breed but don't know if they will, they have been together for 2 months already. But who knows. :D

I have enjoyed this website. I hope to get a sugar glider soon!

gabrielle 2007-11-22

I too just got a glider after meeting one and seeing how awesome they are, and yes at first they are scared and dont know you. So just take them in a tent and let them climb on you, and after a while you can take them out and they LOVE to play! It just takes some time, you have to be patient!

Katiebug 2007-11-14

I have a 10 X 10 outdoor aviary that I house my gliders in. In the winter I wrap the outside in heavy duty clear plastic and run a thermostat controlled heater inside that hangs from the center of the roof. I set it to run warm air instead of hot so they have never been burned. It works great and they have plenty of room to run around. Remember that they would live outside in the wild so I tried to replicate those conditions. I have a feeding platform, plenty of large tree branches and a nesting box for them to sleep in. I don't recomend this in places that it is very cold or damp, as that makes it very difficult to keep a consistent climate for them. I have had gliders for 15 years and take in rescues in my area. My oldest glider lived to be over 11 years old. I did bring her inside her last year since she was very unstable and prone to falling.

Wendy 2007-11-12

Many gliders do not like to be held. I think that this is a huge misconception with people. I got two of them and sold them shortly after that because I wanted a pet that I would interact with and that wouldn't just want to be on its own. Everyone has their own opinions when it comes to them, but I too purchased them after reading such great things. Just be aware that this isnt always the case, think twice please, or you will be out lots of $

Whit 2007-09-30

I barely knew anything about my favorite animal, you told me so much more about sugar gliders. Thanks!

kyle 2007-09-18

Suggies are animals that need a lot of dedication. Before getting one make sure you have everything set up. Glider proof any rooms that the glider will be in, make sure you have a bonding pouch, and prepare the money to buy two. After getting your sugar gliders, you should use the pouch for them to sleep in for a while. This way, during the day, their easy to remove to carry around. Another idea is get a shirt and attach a pocket to it. Wear it a few days prior to buying the suggies and after that, let them sleep in the pocket for the first week. This way, they get very accustom to your scent and think will help bonding greatly. Still, you must take the shirt out every day and keep it with you. Either wear it or carry it with you. Wearing a shirt many days in a row many not sound like the most fun thing in the world, but it works well. Another piece of advice is for when you have to go away for vacation or something similer. A week before you have to go, put a pillow case on one of your pillows. A cheap one since your going to lose it. After the week, when your sending them to your petsitter, tie the case into knots and give it to them. Because its smothered with your scent, this will make the separation a little easier because then they feel as if their human isn't that far away. A recording of your voice may be a good idea as well. Diet wise, I feed my babies Leadbeater mix (Look it up if you don't know what it is, it has supplaments and stuff in it.) and either fresh food or baby food. I find gerbers DHA food a very good choice. Its sweet, has fruit, and is well enriched with many good things for them, calcium especially. One thing that can't be stressed enough is making sure they get plenty of calcium, it is deadly for them if they don't.

Amanda 2007-09-01

Sugar Gliders are GREAT pets! They are very loving and fun! I got mine at Christmas and made a bag for her that looks like a small purse made out of fleece. At first she was a little crabby when I moved around or bumped her, but now she goes with me wherever I go and doesn't make a peep! My glider loves to play hide and seek and loves to play with cat toys, especially the ones with feathers on them. I also have a breeding pair, and my boyfriend has a male. I have found that the males are harder to train than the females as far as bonding goes. The main thing is to spend enough time with your glider. If mine hasn't been played with yet and wants out she "barks" for me. It sounds like a toy dog. I love my gliders and hope to have babies soon!

Bridgette Robinson 2007-08-05

Sugar gliders are great family additions!(Not pets) My nephew bought two, 1 for himself, and 1 for my 12yr old son. Our entire family loves this little furry clown. She was very easy to tame and seems to love the whole family (2 sons, 1 daughter, wife and me). Her name is Crickey (named in honor of Steve Erwin, by my son Cody). This site has a lot of info on them, but so far the only problem we've had is finding a pet shop that carries any type of glider supplies.

Rob 2007-04-18

They are so sweet to be with, love them very much

Mc 2007-04-14

Sugar Gliders are wonderful animals, as long as you have the time to spend with them. I had my little guy from the time he was about 12 weeks old until he was 3 years old. I had to pass him on to my sister because my career did not allow me much time at home. They love to play...Dill used to play "hide and seek" where he'd hide under my blankets and then he'd jump on me when I found him. He also liked to go for rides whether it was in his pouch to the store or in my pocket to a friends house. Make sure you have a sufficient amount of time to dedicate to your glider before you get one, just like any other animal, they need attention too!

Brenda 2007-03-30

sugar gliders are so cute i had 1 before

Katlynn 2007-03-16

I am thirteen years old and I am the proud owner of a fanominal sugar glider! I have done extensive research on these animals and have even read stories about them! I disagree about them eating pinkies (baby mice). One of the stories that i have read said how they had fed their sugar gliders pinkies, and everytime the female had a baby she would always eat the baby thinking it was a pinkie. Other tan that, I agree with them eating mealworms, crickets, etc!

K. Michele 2007-03-06

suger gliders are real active at night and in the morning they have a strange smell they are cute

jess 2007-02-24

i think sugar gliders are the coolest thing ive ever seen. i know a lot about them. i have a sugar glider name pippin and hes the coolest and weirdest thing ive seen, until i got used to it, and he seems frendly as ever. my other sugar glider, guiniver, was mean and i dont know why. i still liked her even though she was mean. i had 4 sugar gliders before. we had to get rid of 3 and kept the oldest. there names where lancalot, guiniver, pippin, and vanish. pippin is about 3 to 4 mounths old and they live up to be 15 years old in a house (owned) and 9 mounths in wild. guiniver, lancalot, and pippin are brother and sisters. i think i will be a vet when i grow up because i want to help animals so much!

Heidi 2007-02-24

I have always wanted a sugar glider and they are adorable little creatures! They are like little mini ferrets. (but maybe a little more lazy!)

Madissen 2007-02-20

my suger glider pressus is 8 weeks old. she crabs when i get her out. the male one trys to bite some times when i get him out. they play a lot. they are noisey and they love to stay in your shirt pocket. yesterday i had them in the bonding pouch, and as soon as i walked in my room they smelled my rat. they looked out of the pouch and started crabbing at her, she was in a cage. they are both 8 weeks old they can tell when the weather is changing, they are jumpy when the weather is changing. i love them both. your site helped me alot, thanks

jess 2007-02-20

my 2 suger gliders are nice but loud at night. one of mine shakes some. i've had them for 3 weeks, i got a male and a female. i hold them 3 hours a day. i feed them grated apples and food pellets so far, i just now started feeding them grapes. i heard they can live for 20 years with proper care and to never pull them by the tail because it can come right off. they bite, and when they do it sure hurts. when they are scared they pop and pee. mine have a hammock to sleep in, they love it. you all taught me a lot about suger gliders. jess

jess 2007-02-19

when you bring your pet suger glider home, keep it in the cage for 1 day so it can calm down. when handling the suger glider be patient with your new pet. dont be suprised if it crabs at you, it will be scared, to it you are like a giant. you need to let it out to play oce a day but you need to glider proof your room. make sure all the plugs are unplugged so if they chew on them it won't hurt them. if you let them play in the bathroom, make sure the lid is down or they might fall in the toilet and drown because they can't get out. if you go on vacation, make sure other people take care of it. they can eat fruits, insects, and pink mice. they can get 8" long and can live for 20 years with proper care. You can feed them nuts, but they are high in fat. They are not shy about mating in front of you when breeding. you need a license to breed from the Department of Agriculture. it may cost $30 to buy but you will also need to have a vet check on them so it may cost around $100 to $200 to breed them and to sell them. if you lose one of the gliders, the other one may cry every night, get depressed, and die if you don't get another glider. it will be about 4 to 8 weeks when you can hold the babies.

jess 2007-02-19

i have 2 pet suger gliders, they are noisy at night. they are a pocket pet but if you try to reach you hand in the pocket they may crab and bite. you should clean the cage once a week. they can find out how to open the cage, they are smarter then a squirrel. they can glide up to 200 feet. never pick them up by the tail because it may come off. the body temperature is around 65f - 75f. they play a lot. suger gliders will not use a litter box and they can not be housed trained. they love to roll around in a rat ball. you need to handle them for 3 hours a day. when taking the glider outside, put a leash on them. poisonous house plants are amarylis, american yew, azalea, balsam, pear, banberry, bird of paradise, and many more plants. if you go on vication make sure you know some one to take care of them, they may bite strangers. they love to eat insects and pink mice, and they may think of a hamster as a treat. do not feed them cat food as it is high in fat. their bodys can not take fat, it may kill them. there are a lot of different diets. like your website, it gave me good information

jess 2007-02-19

my suger gliders are doing great. they are eating right and i give them vitamins once every other day. i hold them once a day. mine are really nice, i got a male and female suger glider. they are noisy some times in the day and most of the time they are noisy at nighttime. They make a barking noise, a chattering noise, and a crying noise. never pull them by the tail, it may come off. thanks for the information, it will help me take care of them. i hope everyones glider lives a happy life. bye

jess 2007-02-19

Thank you so much. I've decided to get sugar gliders but wasnt sure how to set up the cage or if i could get just one or what to to get. you answered all of my questions and then some, thanks again. i've been looking for information and this is just so complete, it really helped. i now know two males would be alright and thats the plan! I'm looking so forward to picking them out, setting up their home and bonding with them.

sugar gliders are the absolute cutest thing ever

molly 2006-12-08

Hello... I just wanted to tell every one how happy I am with my 3 sugar gliders. Roo, Dag, & Mort have been awesome! Mort is pregnant, she has two joeys in her pouch! They are happy and healthy. Mort is soo cute. Her babies are going to be sweet and beautiful just like there mom! Oh thanks to all of you and your information I know just how to handle my colony of soon to be 5 or 7! Thank you all so much! Im only 12 and they are the best critters around...

Mary OC 2006-10-16

Sugar gliders are the best pets. You must be patient with them, take your time, they WILL bond to you, it just takes time (as with any animal), don't be so quick to give up. I highly recommend that you buy two. The way 2 of them interact is very entertaining. Also when you go out of town and have someone watch them, you don't have to worry about them getting there 1-2 hours of play time each day from a human.

I think Suger Gliders are one of the most wonderful animals you could ever have as a pet. They are, yes, not dogs (But I still love them) and not like a normal pet. They are cool and colective and that's very neat!

I just got two baby female gliders. They are about 8weeks old. Ive had them one week. They are tricky to tame but I know they are worth it. Their names are Dag & Mort. Gotta love Gliders!

Sugar Glides are adorable

Suger glider, what fun. I have had one for about two months and i am going to get another one. A female, because i want them to have babies. To help, don't mess with them in their little bed in the cage, they go into attack mode. Zues (our suger glider) bit the nose of my cat because it was messing with him. The cat is scared now

Sugar Gliders ROCK! I have 2, they might be expensive but they sure are worth it! One is Mr.Quiggley and Roxxy they're the cutest little critters! They're so freindly and fun, they like playing hide and go seek and they always win! I remember when I first got them, I wanted a skunk but my mom said they were wild and smelly. I never knew about sugar gliders until we learned about them at school. one day I even brought mine over for show and tell and everyone loved them, they wanted one too! I love sugar gliders and even made up a sugar gliders lovers club with my friends!

I Love Having A SUGAR GLIDER As A Pet!!!!

allahna Brooks 2005-11-22

I've had my sugar glider for about 7 years now. He's so adorable, and has perfected quite a few tricks. When I open his cage (it's up high) and stand on the other side of the room with my arm out, he will run through the cage, out the door, and glide right onto my arm. He likes to sit on my shoulder and look around while im typing or doing homework, as he is right now. His favorite food is grapes and he'd do just about anything to get ahold of one. When I let him out to run around my house, to find him.. all I have to do is put a few grapes in my hand and he will find me and climb up my leg to get them. Definitely an amazing pet, but he hasn't developed a liking to anybody but me.

Your site has been very helpful to us. Because of Katrina and Rita our phones are not reliable. We have 3 males and a female, that just had 2 joeys yesterday. They are adorable! Thank you for the information on your site as we were unable to contact the breeder we normally do business with.

My wife, Crystalinne, and I have just added another pair of sugar gliders to our collection. We name the male KIMI and the female KYM. The difference is that this time we choose to adopt a pair of mature sugar gliders instead of babies. Crystalinne was smitten by KIMI and KYM almost at first sight. KIMI and KYM are both healthy and a bit on the plump side but the energy they have is tremendous compared to our young adolescence pair Scamper and Peekaboo. We started the bonding process immediately although the pet shop owner is very cautious with them. Crystalinne kept talking to them in a nice assuring tone all the way back home. They seemed to respond to her very well. Perhaps there are some vocabulary which are universally used by sugar gliders owner/breeders and they trigger a sense of comfort and security. It would be interesting if the scientific and pet lover community will study this and help future sugar glider owners to bond easier with their pet.

I just sent an message regarding my pet Zippy, but I did not scroll to the bottom to give you my name etc. So here it is now.

im getting a girl sugar glider because i have a lot of spare time and they are so cute. i cant wait for one! love your site!

Jessica chambers 2005-09-09

Sugar gliders sure have personalities as distinct as found in human beings. I have two sugar gliders. The male is Scamper because he likes to romp about the cage at night. It is sure like a circus watching him leaping from branches to branches at night. The female is Peekaboo because she likes to peer out of her nesting place, with the ears like a radar antenna scanning for Scamper. Scamper likes to make a chattering sound especially before joining Peekaboo in the nest. Peekaboo frequently barks in the wee hours of dawn. Scamper will head for the mealworms first when awake, whereas Peekaboo will start with a lick at the papaya-tofu blend. Peekaboo will hold on to you for dear life but Scamper will only tolerate being held for a short time before he starts wanting to explore the room.

Gliders rock! I have three, Darwin and Pashmina, a bredding pair and Jackie, their daughter. Jackie is special because we actually saw her being born. She'd missed her mum's pouch completely, and was on Pashmina's neck by the time we realized what that pink tiny thing was. We took her very gently and put her in her mum's pouch. She survived, and thrived! Another reason why she is so special is because so far, the pair have produced twins, and males. No girls besides Jackie have ever been born yet. She's my baby girl, always curious and naughty.

My Sugar Glider Daisy's baby is so cute. Her name is Echo, they are such fun pets.

Spice the sugar glider is so adorable!

Monkey Butt_13 2005-07-06

Sugar Gliders are certainly sweet and friendly little babies. They need a specific diet, and you must spend quite a bit of time with them. I love my angels - two 6 month old boys, and a year old girl. The little girl was very nippy at first (previous owner was terrible) and one of the boys had his tail ripped off by a dog. They were both terrified and slept 24/7. With time, a bonding pouch and a tent to play in, they have become the sweetest little things! I would recommend gliders only to night people who've done extensive research on the care and keeping of these creatures.

I have put a sugar glider together with a wonderful pet rat of mine, and so far the sugar glider is grateful for the company, as she was very lonely alone. It has been about 2.5 weeks now, and they even sleep together in the hammock! Who would have thought that they would be fast friends!

Holly 2005-06-13

I have wanted an animal that was different than a dog or a cat. I wanted something kind of exotic and not too many people heard about. I went to a pet store and saw the sugar gliders that they had and fell in love with them. I came home and started to learn more about them. I kept begging my mom to get one. I bribed her once when my sister moves out with her dog I can get one. I am so glad she said yes I love her. I have only had her for a little over a year. They are so fun and adorable to have. She loves crawling up behind my neck and just sitting there under my hair or crawls under my shirts and sleeps. I think I would recommend someone to get one of these adorable pets. They are not that hard to take care of you do not need to take them to the vets and get shots or anything, like you would a dog.

Caitlin 2005-05-06

They play like cats... kiss & bark like dogs... eat like squirrels... hang upside down like bats...have monkey tails...They show lots of love and affection...they have a stripe (usually) down their backs that make them kind of look like racoons ...easy to care for ... They make big messes in their cage once you clean it and the next morning you are surprised at the weird mess they make ...They are adorable. the first time I saw one I wanted it so bad I had to buy one. it was worth it! -Emmie age 9-

Sugar Gliders are the cutest and most playful animals you will ever see!!

Sandy 2005-05-06

Sugar gliders are so cool! im only 12 and i know a lot about animals. I recently bought a male glider and he started breeding with my female. A few weeks later 2 joeys popped up. theve been in the pouch for a month and expecting them soon. ooh I cant wait!

Marrias 2005-04-16

Anyone who says sugar gliders are an easy pet are grossly misinformed and probably do not care for their gliders appropriately. Sugar gliders need a very specific diet with fresh fruits, vegitables, insects and special vitamins. Please do NOT purchase a sugar glider because it is cute. Hundreds of sugar gliders a year are abandoned or mistreated because their owners had no idea what they were getting themselves into. If you are interested in a sugar glider PLEASE do your research and do NOT listen to any owner or breeder that says they are easy to take care of.

I recently purchased two female Sugar Gliders who my third wife and I call Ramona and Cleopatra (Cleo for short) and we just LOVE them!!! One thing we love to do is bring them outside on our lovely estate in the Hamptons, my wife has trained them so wonderfully(love you honey) to the point where we can place the two on the roof of our home, get in the car and drive down the block dangling a treat out the window to which they enthusiastically glide to receive. its been a neighborhood favorite and so are my gliders!!!!!

Zachary 2005-03-18

i have two great gliders and they are so cool to play with but my lil girl bites so hard she makes me bleed, but they are so fun and my boy he is so funny. i have a 13 inch jar and about a 5 inch hole that goes down. once i had a ace rap and jack got in it and he pulled it out it was so cute! if you want one you should get one, they are so cool and cute! roxy

I have 2 sugar glidars that I purchased off of a friend. I dont think that they took very good care of them because they always bit, slept night and day, and didnt want to be taken out. But now they are loving, cool creatures that I spend 2 hours a day with. Their only imperfection is when they go to the washroom everytime you take them out.

Some advise on Sugar Gliders. Try singing to them softly or playing soothing, classical music for them and remember, they can sense how you feel around them and they will react to this. Try acting and thinking possitive around them. If you are scared of them, why should they not be scared of you? Try speaking softly to them saying, "its okay, i know you are scared but i wont hurt you".

Rory 2005-02-07

My sugar gliders are the best ones in the world, although one of them bites just a little bit when we are feeding him. they just had two little baby boys and i am naming them Spongebob and i think i will name the other one either Taz or Squishy. Well they are the best of pets and are easy to take care of. Most of the time I am at school or at my mothers house, and it is still very easy to care for them. So if there is anyone out there that is interested in buying one or two, i say go for it, but make sure you have the proper knowledge about them first!!! Mikali (mi-kay-lee)

I love my Sugar Glider. I have had her for about six months, and she is awesome. I have had all sorts of pets, mice, rats, birds, guinea pigs, and fish. I have had more fun with my Sugar glider than any of them. They are so sweet when they bond with you. I will absolutely never have a time in my life that I do not have a Sugar Glider. They are the best pets ever!

Erik 2004-11-27

i have just purchased a 16 week old male glider. he is so neat. so far so good on bonding....he still crabs tho and its been almost 2 months since i bought him. but he has never bitten me. i love him alot. they are groovy animals!!! amanda

Amanda 2004-10-03

I have never had that experience with gliders, sean. how old were they when you got them? Maybe they were treated poorly by a previous owner. Try holding them (in their pouch) so they can get used to your scent. Feed them baby food, yogurt, etc. or any soft food on your fingertip. over time they will bond more with you. It takes alot of patience. THEY NEED LOVE AND NEED TO LEARN TO TRUST YOU! Keep the faith..Laurie

LAURIE PITTWAY 2004-09-20

Hi my name is Sean i bought 2 sugar gliders months ago, they are the cutest and most annoying sounding creatures out there. There is a really loud ahah. When i bought them i read books on them and spent 500$ on cage and all the stuff, huge cage. most people tell you there loving, well my 2 that i got, male/female are absolutely mean. they draw blood everytime i hold them, and no matter what, they wont stop biting. there are some of the meanest things ive ever owned. im so careful with them yet all they do is bite. infact when i walk in front of the cage they start "crabing" for ever and never quit. They make huge messes when they eat, and you have to clean the fruit off of everything, the cage the wall and the floor. They are so cute, so annoying, and extremely mean!
