I have a hamster named fatboy. He is the most coolest hamster I have ever meet. I love him. I got him July 12, 2009.

I got my hamster roxy about last year! She is doing amazing and I love her. I play with her everyday, give her a treat every 3 days, change her water every morning and night, put new food in her dish every 2 days, and on the day between - a little food and something to chew on. She plays in her ball for 30 minutes everyday and I always have her with me in my hand.

I just got a 10 week old (supposingly) short hair hamster, the first day he was very active like he was in the pet shop, he played on his wheel for hours, ate and ran around. Then the next day and to the present (1 week now) he never seems to stay up for more than 15 minutes and thats just to go get water and food. The cage has a house that's attached to the side of the cage and he never seems to want to leave it. He goes to the bathroom in there too so I clean it everyday and when I do, he gets freaked out sometimes and hides in the cages tubes (habitrail cage) and I try to be very gentle and quiet when I do it, waking him up slowly. I hope he's not sick, has anyone ever heard of this? I can't tell if he is though because he is eating, cleaning himself, drinking water, and can run fast and climb up these 1 and 1/2 ft tubes, I'm very worried.

Hi, my name is naomi and I just got a pet dwarf hamster named little lad. He never comes on to my hand, I've tried putting food on my hand and rubbing my hand in his bedding, he just won't come on my hand. Also my cousin liked the my hamster named little lad and she got her own off this woman. The woman didn't tell her what breed the hamster is so we looked up everywhere and can't find them. We think the hamsters she owns, named snowy and hami, were half rat because they were bigger than dwarf hamsters, pure white, no short tail, pink eyes and made a hissing noise and they spat and bite a lot. What on earth will we do! please help naomi

A month ago I bought 2 teddy bear hamsters. My family and I thought they were both girls, but a week ago we found out they are not. Now we have the hamsters in separate cages because the father will eat them, and warning, don't bother the mother or babies or the mother will bite them to death. The babies are soon coming out, in maybe 3 or 4 days.

Hello, If your hamster is lost try putting the cage on the ground and checking it at night. My hamster was lost for one week; we tried this and it actually worked!

I bought a hamster for my daughter 6 days ago. Today she gave birth to 3 babies! She has thrown one out of the nest. I phoned the pet shop and they told me to keep them for 3 weeks and they will take them . Should they sell pregnant hamsters and not tell the customer they are pregnant??

Hi I just got some hamsters a mouth ago, a boy and a girl. Then a week ago they had babies, I think there was 12 but the mom killed 2 of them. Now there is only 10 of them left. There aready is a little fur, but remember, if your hamster has babies, don't touch them because the mom will kill them!

Her name is Lily. We bought her a month ago. Se always gets lost and we never find her. She likes to play a lot. She's long and is white, beige, and black. Steven borrowed her and now he can't find her. She has been like one week lost. Lily bit all of her sisters close and then ran away. I hope we find her cause damile, my partner, misses her. Me and my brother got our hamster about a month ago. We liked them at first sight. However, a few weeks later our hamsters gave birth. We were astounded to see a little red critter lying there under it's mom. Another week after our hamsters gave birth, they grew more and more courageous. Snowflake (female) was so cute to look at. Whenever we went to look at her, she'd look at us and seem to plead: "can't I have some better food?" We, of course gave her some food. But some how, she lost all confidence. Now Hermes (male) is more confident. Booey (female) was always confident.

We purchased our first dwarf hamster about a month ago. We walked into the pet store and she had her little front paws on the front of the cage, her ears all perky as if to say "Look at me - I will make a great pet!". Well, we couldn't resist. We named her Despereaux. It took her a little time to become acclimated to us, but now she is so funny! Every morning when she hears us enter the kitchen she climbs to the top of her cage (we have the Critter Trail X, which has a viewing station for her - great cage!), and starts poking her nose out to say good morning and to get her Cheerios! YES - CHEERIOS! She loves them. We feed one at a time, she usually eats 3 - 4 pretty quickly, then will take a few and hide them for later. We crack up laughing at how quickly she hides them and then comes back for another. We let her hide maybe 3 - 4 for later. We don't want her to eat only Cheerios. In the afternoon after she eats her pellet food she will again go to the viewing station looking for us - this time for popcorn! We just use popcorn that we pop at home with a little oil, no salt or butter. One piece of popcorn takes her 5 minutes to eat - it is hilarious to see how big the one piece is in her hands - and the cutest part is that she sits and holds it with her front paws. Don't waste money buying the expensive treats in the store! Needless to say we are very pleased with her. We look forward to many more fun times with her.

Well, few days ago I traded one of my pet snakes for a Syrian hamster. I got to say that the little critter was not in her tip-top shape (due to lack of care from previous owner). But after a couple of days under my care, she looked much better and has become very active. To my surprise, she gets along with my 4 pet white mouse nicely, although the mouse were intimidated by the hamster's size.

I got a Dwarf Hamster for Christmas from my boyfriend. I named him Blueberry. I'm not to sure if he's a Roborovskii Hamster or a Campbell's Russian Hamster (Djungarian Hamster. i've looked at some pictures and the two kinds look so similar. I had to get a quiet wheel right away! We have been taking him out every day for about 20 minutes and let him run on the bed making sure he can't fall off. He's really starting to get use to us and the dog. Its so much fun watching him.

Hello! My 10 year daughter (Ryan) just got her first male golden hamster and all the goodies for christmas from her 20 year old sister. His name is Chester. She was so happy and we loved the fact that Ryan was so involved in the caring and knowledge of what to do and what not to do. On New Years Eve, I was examining Chester and I realized that he had gained a lot of weight within a short time. I asked the girls if they were feeding him too much. Out of no where I decided to ask my daughter how she knew that she had gotten a male. She said that she asked for a male hamster at the pet store. I looked the sex details up on the internet and discovered that Chester was NOT a male hamster and that SHE was definitely pregnant. We had decided that night to return her to the store in the morning and trade her for another male hamster, since we knew nothing about hamsters or taking care of baby hamsters. Needless to say, it was TOO LATE! Overnight she had 14 pups. I quickly got on the internet to search for information on what to do. My daughter was not about to let us get rid of her hamster(Rosie) now that she had the babies. I was completely shocked when I saw them. They looked like little pink worms with feet. I can't explain my amazement. Now it has been 10 days since birth and I have to say that I am the one in the family that is most interactive and amused with Rosie, the hamster babies and their needs. I get excited to watch the growth of the babies daily because it is so fast. I have taken pictures daily and plan to put them in a photo album for my daughter to remember this experience because it is not going to happen again in our household. I am going to let her keep one of the babies and it will be another female. However, the sad part of the story is that we are down to 11 pups. We know that one suffocated the first day. Rosie threw it to the side, it turned blue and we pulled it out with tongs. It is now buried in our garden with a proper cross marking and neighborhood child funeral (which was quite cute). I did have to explain the cycle of hamster life and a little more than I was ready to explain with this experience to my 10 year old daughter. The other hamsters were naturally disposed of by the mother, we are guessing. This was again, very heartbreaking to my daughter. She has since gotten over the fact the she thought she was somehow guilty for their deaths because she looked at them through the cage and I have been preaching to her NOT to touch the babies or the mother will kill them if she smells your scent on them. I was kind of harsh. It is amazing to see how much the mother hamster, Rosie wants out of her cage, wants in her ball or to interact with me ONLY! It has become a morning routine with her and I before I leave for work. I worry that she wont settle back to trusting my daughter. This is why I have agreed to let her have the pick of the litter. Any suggestions on what type of cages we should use to separate the babies when the time comes would help. I really don't want to go out and buy anything, but I don't want more pregnant babies. I have had my hamster for 7 months. I still remember the day I got him when he chewed his cardboard box and ran off down the street. I cannot tame him. I have tried everything like scoop him up in a cup and place a sunflower seed on your hand and let him walk on it, but it will not work. Also he has chewed 2 cages down to the core and he has lots of toys and he never drinks. He is a syrian hamster. Also, his cage always stinks. I always clean him out. I change his food every day but I still find that hard because he will bite me. My mom says I will have no choice to sell him if I can not tame him please help me!

Hi,my name is katelin and I just got a female golden hamster for christmas and her name is, Barlow. She is very sweet and has only bit me once, but I think it was totally accidental. We got her a habitrail, she LOVES it and we got her a ball which she goes completely wild in. I think she is the best looking hamster in the universe, she is bright gold with white lightning stripes on each side of her body. I just love my little Barlow to death and I pamper her to pieces. Hi there, I just want to say that I got a hamster on christmas eve and I love her and her name is Holly. She is the best ever and never bites at all and I did NOT tame her at all. She is very pretty. She is brown and white. I got her at petco. I did not know nothing about it until my bro got a puppy on christmas eve and so we went to get food and a leash etc. for her, and my mom told me to pick out a hamster. I was so surprised and happy. Tonight at November 28 I went to hold my hamster, and when I tried to hold it his back got stiff and I couldn't hold him. His name was Mario. My mom checked him out and tried to hold him too, but the same thing happend with Mario. Then Shanelle my sister held him and he didn't freck out like he did when I tryed to hold him. Hi! I went to Petsmart yesterday, and me and my mom saw these REALLY cute hamsters. They were males, but they had big lumps by their tail! It was very strange, but the hamsters were SO SWEET! Seriously, they were so cute and sweet but the thing I didn't like about 'em was those lumps! I've never seen anything like it! Well, I might also get a hamster for Xmas because I didn't tell anyone what I wanted for it, and I made a new wish list and it says, "I want a cute hamster, plus all the items to take care of it!" Hey, I bought a campbell's russian dwarf hamster named Dolce (Doll-chey) 10 days ago and noticed that the whole 3rd level of her cage was completly soaked after about 5 days, and that the whole right side of the main floor was too. and I was wondering if somebody knew of a certain reason why that would be? thanks

Hello, I have had and bred hamsters all my life, and I have never seen this! I bred my adorable sweet and gentle black and white banded male, Julien, (Devastated when he died shortly after the pups were born.) with my equally sweet peach and white banded female, Mabel. Eight were born, and three are peach and white banded like mom, but the 5 others are brown and white banded. I'm ecstatic that they are brown, because I love the color, but I'm also a little disappointed that they don't look like their daddy, because I miss him so. Will they turn to black as they grow? I am giving some of the babies to new homes, and if you are close to Snohomish Wa 98296, are welcome to take one or two. (Must be same sex if two) They are adorable and gentle. No biters, except mom, lol she's a little sensitive right now obviously. :)

I just found this site and it's great!! We've been small animal lovers for four years, having a beautiful golden teddybear named Harry (after Harry Potter and because he was so hairy!), a darker brown syrian named Shannon (because she looked like my then 12 yr old daughter's best friend), and an albino rat named Pinky (my baby girl). They lived with us for three years each before they passed over the Rainbow Bridge, Pinky almost made it four! Now we have an adorble and sweet syrian named Godzilla(after a book my youngest daughter read about a hamster, "Godzilla ate my homework" highly reccommend it) and we had what we now call Mommy, otherwise known as White Paper, my 5 yr old's baby. She's a Russian dwarf albino. She had 7 babies, we didn't know she was pregnant when we got her...and we certainly had to keep the 6 that survived. So now Tookie, my now 6 yr old son, has White Paper, Naruto and Jimmie Johnson, My 8 yr old son has Jeff Gordon and Sasuke, my 10 yr old daughter has Meanie and cotton ball... the two girl babies. Just today we discovered Naruto is a girl! So now we have five new little pink jelly beans waiting to be named! We also have two anoles, american chamelions, Yukio and Minabi, those are my 16 yr old daughters's, and my husband and I have 3 cockatiels between us, Gen. Nathan Bedford Forrest, his, a natural color or grey, and two beautiful pearl, or yellow girls named Tweety and Sour Puss(because of their lemon cream pie colors and dispositions)mine. Thanks for a great site to remind me what to do as it's been a year since we had babies! Wish us luck coming up with names for our 5 new albino Russian Dwarfs! I have had a female Syrian Hamster (Black Bear) since June 22, 2008. Her name is Emmy and she's a complete sweet heart and even if she's in a bad mood, she will not bite! She loves too sit in front of me when I watch her, and cleans herself. She can stand on her back paws straight and perfectly and loves to run around my room without a ball, because she won't hide, just explore inside my shoes or under a blanket! Because she's so sweet, I am planning on breeding her with my Albino Syrian Hamster, Emmett, the goofball that loves to flip upsidedown to clean his stomach. I have asked around BEFORE even preparing to breed them, if some people I trust will take a baby hamster. I hope things work out!

I have a male Russian Hamster. His name is Calypso (ca-lip-so). He is very active and young. Calypso is very shy around people he doesn't know, but has grown to trust me. He is light brown- or tan- with a white stripe in the middle of his body. I just recently bought him. He loves his cage, especially his excersize cage. I love my So-So, so much! I had a Long-Haired Teddybear Hamster who I named Sherbert. He was almost 2 years old when he died. He died 2 days ago. He was waiting for me to get home from camp before he died. Everyone in my house was taking care of him. But he died a couple hours after running in his ball. So I didn't get see him before he died. He was my first hamster he was the best hamster, he never even bit once. I hope I get another animal just like he was.

We just bought a Russian Dwarf Hamster as a pet on Thursday. Her name is Abercrombie. My daughter was a little disappointed because the hamster was a little nippy. We told her that once she got used to her new enviroment she would be better. My daughter just returned home from her first day at camp and went in her room to check on Abercrombie and she started screaming that Abercrombie had babies. We quickly checked and my son said he counted five. We really didn't want to disturb mommy and her new little pups so we covered up the top of the cage so it was protected from the central air. Wonderful!!! We visited this site to educate ourselves on raising Russian dwarf hamsters.

Hey, I just got a russian dwarf hamster(named Squirt) like two weeks ago! Then my little bro got one (named Pipsquiek) and hen my friend got one(named Lily)! They were all siblings and were very young! e didn't know what gender it was but the lady at the store told us they were too young to be pregnant. As it turns out, 3 days ago my hamster had two babies! Then this morning my friend called and said she could see one baby with her hamster! Im trying to convince another one of my friends mom to let her have one of the babies! We named the two babies Freddy and Lulu! They're so cute and I can't wait until I can hold them! This site has some great info. But my chinese dwarf hamster is almost three years old, and he has hated me ever since I started holding him, and that was like 2 1/2 years ago.

In the "coolest comments" section, the person says that it is normal for a hamster to chew on their bars. Yes, it is common, but it is not a good sign! It means the hamster is bored! They can easily damage their teeth chewing on the bars. Give you hamster more excercise, more space, more (healthy!) things to chew on and it won't be gnawing on the bars.

I think that they are very cute and furry. Mine's name is buster boo, he is a syrian hamster: shorthair. I love him!

My hamster died a week ago (whaaaaaa!). Her name was Creampuff and she was a golden hamster that was gold on the top and white on the bottom.

I have four chinese dwarf hamsters that are all sisters. They tend to get rowdy at times but nothing I can't handle. Hey guys, I have a long haired teddy bear hamster named peanut. I love him with all my heart. I also have an angora mixed with an america fuzzy lop rabbit, named kipper. I love her also with all my heart! I clean kippers cage every other day and peanuts every two weeks! They are so SWEET, peanut has NEVER bitten me and he is just about 1 and a half years old. Kipper is almost a year. They are so much fun! I love them!

I learned new things that I had not known before on this website. I used to have a honey bear hamster that died a month after I got it from PetSmart. The vet said that I did nothing wrong. I now have Panda Bear hamster from there that is biting and I have read the information on this site and I don't know why it is still biting after I tried the tips. This is very good website though.

I am getting a hamster for my birthday and want to be prepared. So I've been looking at several hamster sites, but my favorite one is animal world.

My hamster spot was squirmy as soon as I got her. Whenever I hold her she poops or pees on me!, but spot is vary cute. I really love my hamster spot. She is a teddy bear hamster. You have to change its cage every week, plus whenever she poops in her cage it falls on the floor.

I've raised 250 teddy hamsters for 7 years and I have tamed my little baby hamsters as they grow. I tamed them not to bite accept they're stuffed animals and they're own blanky. They each have they're own blankies and they're own stuffed animals to play with and yes teddy hamsters have personalities, every one of them that you keep in your house. They love attention, and blankies or stuffed animals, that they can play with a lot. They also play with a little ball with feathers on it, like cats play with. Only pick the stuffed animals that are their sizes. Babies love the plastic wheels, make sure you put duct tape on the wheel so the babies don't get they're little tiny feet caught. You can feed teddy hamsters non salty stuff like cereal, dried or fruity cereal. They do have feelings, because I've gotten kissed by some of them and slapped by some of them with they're tiny hands. My teddy hamsters follows me and they also know my voice. They do cry when they want out for attention. Teddy hamsters do hear a lot more then what a person would. They also watch TV, well such as other animals on TV because they can hear the sounds of dogs barking, cats meowing, and birds chirping. They more afraid of birds outside so make sure you stay right beside them when they walk around. I've just lost my sweet wonderful Queen Elizabeth and my god bless her little tiny soul. I cried over my Elizabeth because she was very spoiled and very sweet. She loved me so much ane she always was with me. I'm gonna miss her so much, and I could never find one like her. She knows that I loved her so much. She was really close to me.

Thank you for your help, I've just gotten a russian dwarf hamster 2 days ago. When I go to feed him he jumps and tries to bite me. He's bitten me 7 times in two days. Now I see I've been doing a lot of thing incorrectly. I rush to pick him up, I disturb his nest, I use a loud voice, I've messed with him so many times in 2 days, and I've squeezed him (oops!). I just hope he'll get better and so will I. But if he doesn't stop biting me with in a few weeks, he's going back to petsmart and I'll try a new friend. His name is pepper. He is brown, gray, and white AND VERY MEAN (maybe somewhat my fault) I hope he'll still adapt. Thank you VERY much!

Hi, my name is Shruti and I just got a Blueberry Dwarf Hamster! It won't let me carry it yet, but when I come near its cage it sticks it's nose out of the cage's bars. He bit my mom when she was putting broccoli into its cage. I need to train it to not bite anybody, but maybe I should just wait until it gets used to us. It is only about 4 months old, I got it last weekend. My hamster barely ever goes on its wheel, so never gets any exercise and eats all day. Maybe it would it be a good idea to get a ball. Please tell me if you have any advice. Thank you!

heyy, my name is Dylan. I have had hamsters ever since a was a toddler. I recently had a black Bear hamster (named Nibblet) pass away. My mom and I thought she had had a stroke or heart attack becuase it looked like she had fallen off her wheel and died. It was terribly sad but when you looked on her face she had a bright, big smile on her face. Hi I have 2 Russian Dwarf hammies and I believe they are both males. I've had them for 2 months now and except for an occassional spat they seem to put up with each other very well. (They usually get up at different times so this might help). When they fight it is because one is trying to steal the other ones food when he drops the crumbs. lol I have hand trained them by giving them a sunflower seed everytime I pick them up so now all I have to do is go near the cage and they start climbing the sides of the cage trying to get to me. They make a purring sound when I hold them and pet them.

Shannon -- the only female hamster I ever had squealed a lot. Squealing is a sign of fear in hamsters. My advice to new hamster owners is not to bother your hamster once you first take it home for a few days and put him or her in the cage. Let them adjust before you start handling them. They have no idea where they are or what that big thing is that keeps coming towards them (your hand)! Amrit -- It is normal for hamsters to chew on their bars. My first hamster made it into a hobby and nearly chewed all of the paint off the bars of his cage. There are several things you can try, like rubbing pickle juice on the bars (they usually don't like the taste) or finding alternate things for your hamster to chew on. Kukkiii might not like chew sticks, but he/she might like to chew on toilet paper rolls or blocks of wood. Also, anyone looking to buy a hamster, in my opinion, if you want a more docile pet, try choosing a male. Be sure to clean your hamster's cage at least once a week! Never keep any hamsters in a cage together unless they are dwarf hamsters and have been together since birth. Even then, beware of fights.

Hi there- my name is Amrit and I got a dwarf hamster about 1 month ago. It is a greyish white colour and I named it Kukkiii(friend's choice). Anyways I love it and never want to lose it but it does bite ALOT! I have not held it once and even though I give it chew sticks it continues to chew on its cage bars! It is never awake and really feisty when it comes to taking it out of its cage (ziploc inc. tub) to clean it. I would like to know what I should I do if anyone has some information for me.

When I was about eight(a pretty long time ago), he got out of his cage and drowned in my Sump Pump. My mother had come home from work, and I forgot to close Stewart's cage. My motto here is to always make sure that your hamster is safe when you leave him/her for the day. If you leave it's cage door(s) open, it will surely get out. It just may end up like Stewart. I got my hamster for Christmas of 2007. It is a boy named Charlie. He is an albino russian dwarf and he is pure white. Well, he used to be. I've had more than fifty hamsters, of all different breeds, during the past four years and I loved every single one of them. They are incredible pets if you treat them right. Once they gain your trust, they are the sweetest animals that you could ask for. I've had two litters already and one of my females, Peach, is pregnant now. I can't wait for her litter! I have a teddy bear hamster named Chubs. He is very friendly and loves to eat. My 6yr old loves him to death because he is very smart and has never bitten. Before I never liked hamsters because I remember being a small child and the one my siblings and I had, ended up eating her offspring. Chubs has totally changed my view on the hamster world and their species. I wouldn't change him for the world. I was reading the comments and you are NOT to give Hamsters baths unless they have something on their coat that is toxic, or something stuck in their coat they could ingest when cleaning themselves. Hamsters bathe themselves and get chilled very easily. If your hamster is stinky or unclean then you are not cleaning the cage enough. Spot clean the cage daily, and change the bedding weekly.

hi, i used to have a teddy bear hamster who bit me ALOT! He was very mean. I got him at petco, but then 2 days ago I exchanged my old teddy bear hamster for a dwarf hamster. Her name is eskimo because she is gray and white and has never biten me. I recommend if you have just gotten a new hamster that you wear gloves first and pick it up to see if it bites. (I wouldnt recommend bathing your hamster because they dont like water, trust me i have learned the hard way). So get a hamster and hold it at the store before yout take it home. i recommend getting a baby so it thinks you are his or her parent and it is nicer, but it just depends on the hamster. bye

I bought a chinese dwarf hamster called Nick. He's lovely but very small. Nick is very jumpy and active at the moment, but he loves a good cuddle/stroke. He is my first hamster. Hi, today i bought a pair of roborovski hamsters. They are so adorable and they sleep squashed up together. They certainly like to run. I had 2 ideas on what to call them, comet & sparky or Jam & marmalade. In the end i ended up calling them jam & marmalade. They are so cute and never bite, although they are fairly quick moving. I highly recommend them as an older childs pet.

I have 3 hammsters. I got Minime first and shes older than the other 2. Midget and Dodget are the other 2. They are in one cage. They are so cute and adorable, i love snuggle with them. My hamster has a cyst that keeps opening and blood and this white gunk comes out. He is in lots of pain and if your hamster has this type of thing. Either go to a vet or just keep cleaning it everyday.

Hey. I just bought my daughter, who is now six, two long hair teddy bear hamsters. At first when I heard that they have a tendency to bite I was kind of worried about how they'd be with my daughter. But both of them are sweet as can be and they are both females, named Lilly and Lola. They get along great with each other and they love to be held and petted. If you know anybody or if you are thinking about getting one, I would highly recommend it. They are not hard to take care of, they are so sweet, and they are fun animals to have around the house!

Hi My husband and I "inherited" two Syrian hamsters from our daughter when she moved away. We had to learn how to care for them and clean their cages. We became very attached to them as we developed a relationship with them. They both had different personalities - they loved to play and run in their balls around our family room and the hall ways. They were adults when we got them so we didnt know how old they were. A few weeks ago I noticed a lump on Blondie's throat near his chest. I took him to the vet who did a biopsy and found he had cancer. The tumor grew rapidly and today we had to have him put down. I have been crying all week since we found he was sick and today has been very painful. I cant believe how much we came to care for them and how much we miss Blondie already. These two little guys have taught me a lot. I have had pets all my life but had no idea that hamsters are as intelligent as they are and that they have such great friendly personalities. We will miss Blondie very much.

I love small animals. Sometimes they are scared when you first get them, but soon enough they turn into loving and playful babies. I had a rat, Mr. Willy, he died after 3 years. He was the perfect animal, but not my first. My first was a teddy bear hamster. His name was Snuggles, oh how I miss them all. Then I moved onto bigger rodents, such as the guinea pigs. I had a lovely hamster (long hair teddy) I bred with a syrian long hair and she had 9 cutest babies. Unfortunatley the mother died today, the babies were born on the 24th of last month. I think a lizard or something bit it. It was really blue and it's mouth was broken into two, as well as near her ear there was a big blood clot. I am not sure what to do now since there are 2 smaller sized babies. I am heartbroken for its death since it used to follow me around the house. It never bit me and used to sleep beside me on the bed! I know it sounds weird but it never left my side. Now since the mother is gone and the babies witnessed that, I am not sure what to do.

I had a hamster when i was about 4 years old, his name was Cookie. I loved him. He got killed when he tried to get out of is cage and strangled himself. I was crying for days. I have had hamsters and they are the cutest things. They are fun and fairly easy to take care of and they love attention. Their favorite toys are wheels and I got mine a ball. They like to go through tubes and bury themselves. Mine ate an assortment of seeds. I advise you to get one if you want a cute and playful pet.

My beloved Lucky Lola the hamster was black & white with black eyes. I got her on November 19, 2005. Lucky Lola the hamster passed away on September 1st in the night, or early morning of the 2nd. She was famous because she was in the police blotter in the newspaper before she found an home. I got her at the animal center. My niece & I buried Lucky Lola at the beach. i have 2 dwarf hamsters. one is chinese and one is russian. the russian is white with a grey stripe. he is so cute except he likes to go go go! if you want a hamster i would suggest chinese, they are much calmer.

This is a sad story sooo... I had a syrian hamster, she was a female and her name was Pumkin. She was the cutest and there was something about her, she just understood what i was going through in my life. She never bit me or anything, but one day i went to go see her and she was breathing every minute, it looked like she was dead. Well i know she could not move, kinda like paralyzed, but she was in her cage the whole time. I was there crying and holding her, telling her she can't die, and i did as much as possibly could do to help her. Then she started to open her mouth when she was breathing every 10 seconds. So then i found a box to put her in with a rag and blanket. I was in my moms room showing her what Pumkin was doing that was freakin me out. Then she turned around on her back very slowly and the this watery stuff came out of her nose. I said mom whats happening? She said Oh My God Amber pumkin just died.:( I put the box she was in down and ran to the bathroom crying like i never have before. Well, I gave her a really special ring that i put in her box that i buried her in. I told her i would never forget her and she would always be my favorite hamster. I still cry til this day. :(

My hamster died when he was about 3 years old and they are kind of a lot of work but I have always loved hamsters. Before you buy an animal you should always read about it because my friend bought one and she thought it would be easy to care for and she ended up selling her hamster. What is sad is that was a gift to her. Be careful what you ask for!

They are awesome with my little girl and other pets like a zebra finch. They love to play and run all over my room. I have made a playground for my hamsters. It has wheels, food and water dishes, toys, chew toys, a little sand box, hay and much more. They love to go out on their ball and they will come if I call they're names, that's sweet huh? about half a year ago i fell in love with a cute amazing teddy bear hamster. i loved her and i visited her every day for a week and did some research. i asked my parents if i could have her and they said NO! i was really sad but i still went to visit her. one day i went there and she was gone. i was so sad. i talked to my parents and gave an extensive case about wanting a hamster. they finaly agreed to let me have a hamster! but i had to do a bunch of chores and anything they asked for two weeks and i had to clean my room. i did all that stuff and my parents took me to the pet store and i got my friend Pepsi. i love pepsi and he loves me and i am so happy that i have him. he loves running in his ball and he likes cheese and peanut butter. i love him and he loves me!

when I was around seven, I had purchased a black bear hamster and named her Midnight. on the computer my mother and I had researched about hamsters and heard black bears were the best. it turned out to be a lot of hard work, but I could do it. it required weekly changing the water, thoroughly cleaning out her tank, changing her bedding, and daily refilling her food dishes. but after all that hard work, turned on me and bit me 4 separate times, one of the times going all the way through my finger! on top of that, she last only a short time of 7 or 8 months, dying from wet-tail. it was a big disappointment to me and next time I get a hamster, it will probably not be a black bear hamster.

When I moved to San Francisco, I was in need of a little animal to dote on. Of course, city living doesn't always allow the possiblity to have a cat or dog. I walked into my local pet store and I fell in love with this grey & white super furry teddy bear hamster. Since hamster are so quiet there wasn't a problem having one in my apartment. George is a wonderful little friend. He has only nipped my finger once, because it smelled like a treat and not out of aggression. He is active in the wee hours of the morning - around 12:30am he slowly begins his day, but by 3am I hear the little wheel spinning out of control. Best to invest in some ear plugs if you are going to keep the cage in your bedroom. He loves brocolli, watermelon, almonds, cheese, turkey, dog biscits, and grapes. Along with his fruits and veggies, he enjoys basic store kibble and some treats. As an added excitement, I got him a track to run around in his ball, but I think he was so use to running around the apartment that the track is too boring and he doesn't seem to use it. Eh, I tried. Anyway, I had a hamster when I was 14yrs. old - I didn't quite get then how great they are and I'm happy to rediscover the happiness of having a Hammy. I love George!

One day I saw something red in the food bowl and it was blood.:( Then I invited my friend over and she said that they can fight about stuff like that until one of them dies.(we got another cage for the other hamster) So just be careful when you have dwarf hamsters, even if they are related.

A hamster takes 4 weeks to know its owner. I have had 5 hamsters and have learned they love to eat hamster cookies. They also need to be in a summer and winter proof area. They can die of a heat stroke or cold bacteria can go into the food and cause wet tail. So take care of your hammy.

I had two boy teddy bear hamsters named Salt and Pepper. I got them when they were only 10 weeks old. I loved them with all my heart and cleaned their cage every week. Pepper and Salt were 2 1/2 years old when one day Pepper was just randomly dead =[. They have known each other since birth so I know they didn't fight. So Salt and I were devastated but we still had each other. After a while Salt started losing his hair, it didn't matter to me, he was still perfect. Then he was getting less and less active, to where I rarely saw him awake. A little while after that, I was holding him and realized my poor Salt had gone blind. Even then, I cared for him just like I always had. It was 9 months after Pepper's death, and Salt had just turned 3 the month before. I kissed and hugged him goodnight, like normal, at about 9 at night. I slept silently then woke to my cat at about 11:30pm. I could feel my cat had something furry, I couldn't quite tell what. I figured it was a stuffed animal, but what worried my was, why would she wake me up for that? She set the thing down at the end of my bed while I was walking to turn on my light. I turned around and broke out in tears to see my Salt, laying on my bed with two gaping teeth marks in his back. He was bleeding horribly and suffering for air. I tried putting medicine on it and hoped and prayed that just maybe, he would pull through. I sat on my bed and held him with a blanket, it didn't take long to realize I was slowly losing him. I cried and talked to him, for what seemed like forever. I told him he would see his brother soon, and he would not be blind and he would grow his beautiful coat back out, and his terrible wounds would heal. He just layed there, gasping for air. I prayed, "God please don't make him suffer any longer, take him now and let him get better, let him see his brother," I prayed, "Cuddle them both close to you like they were special." Right as I said that he just stopped. Everything. He wasn't gasping or trying to move or anything. I weeped by his dead body for hours, but at the same time I wanted to feel happy. Now he can see how wonderful heaven is, he is now reunited with his brother. He's not suffering. He was all that was on my mind for weeks on end. I was too miserable to hardly look at my rabbits anymore, they were the same colors and breeds of both Salt and Pepper. It has now been exactly 45 days since this happened. And just today I got a dwarf hamster. I wouldn't give Nutmeg, Salt and Pepper's cage. No, the cage and bowl sits where I can remember it, and Nutmeg get's a brand-new cage. With 3 cats, 1 dog, 2 rabbits, 1 horse, 1 hermit crab, 2 pigs, 1 mouse, and now a dwarf hamster, I hadn't used up much of my love for small furry creatures yet. I did hesitate, but finally decided to get another hamster, but of a different breed. Then came Nutmeg and even though I have only had her for one day, I know I will love her with all my heart (Along with all the others) But she will never replace my Salt and Pepper.

The next day I was going to take them to the vet, but on the way there Chestnut died. When I went in the waiting room, Daisy got very hyperactive and about 5 minutes later she collapsed. I was so devastated. R.I.P CHESTNUT AND DAISY!

hamsters are so weird. my hamster Dusty crawled through this crack in our couch that led nowhere, or so we thought. she got into the bottom of the couch where we couldn't get her. we had to tip the couch and cut a hole to get her out. the whole time i was so scared that i almost cried. I figured out that wherever hamsters can fit their head, their bodies can get into, too. now my hamster keeps trying to get into that hole again.

I have read that a girl "bathes" her hamster in the sink. You should never do this as hamsters are fully able to wash themselves and a hamster can become really ill if they come in to connect with water!

Me and my twin both love our dwarf hamsters very much. We each have favourite ones. Sometimes they fight but other than that they are very cute and friendly. Sometimes they bite but thats if they feel threatened. i sometimes want to know why they fight and wonder if we have too many in one cage. They are faster and smaller than normal hamsters, and they shouldnt be fed fruit and veggies everyday =]

i went to clean out my two hamsters cage today and found the one, ken, dead. so i did some research trying to find out what happened. i figured it out. barbie was a teddy bear hamster and ken was a black bear hamster. they cant live together. teddy bear hamsters get solitary. putting the two together can lead to serious fighting or even death, and thats what happened. : [ barbie killed ken, evil little booger. so dont put black bear hamsters with teddy bear hamsters, one might get hurt or even die. dont make the same mistake i did.

I recomend you take hamsters to the vet. The Vet: cuts nails, gives shots, cuts over grown teeth, checks for and gets rid of - lice, mites, fleas, etc.

hi my name is claudia, i have one siberian hamster. her name is lucy and she is about a year and four months old. i love her so much. i got her when one day my dad came home and said he got me something. he took me to the car and i saw her. she was about 8 weeks old and had light brown with some white fur. i am so grateful to have her, she is so interesting. sometimes when im asleep i hear her playing on her exercise wheel or sometimes i hear her nibbling on her hide out vitamin ball. its really cute but sometimes it scares me. hopefully everyone who doesnt have a hamster can be introduced to our small furry friends. love claudia

Hi! I have a hamster named Oreo. She is a panda bear hamster and is very, very sweet! She is so furry and cuddly. Those hamsters live up to at least 2 years. I got very lucky, she is about 3 years and 1/2. Unfortunately, she is very ill, and we don't know what is wrong. She is walking funny, and she can only turn one way. And if she tries to turn the opposite way, she falls over on her back. She also isn't eating (because she cant make it over to her bowl). It's painful to watch, and kind of makes me cry. She bit me because i tried to help her to, she has quite a grip. We think she had a stroke. She probably will die soon :(. I think it would be a miracle if she was still alive tomorrow. If you see any of these side affects, i suggest you see a vet right away.

Hamsters are GREAT pets, but remember if you get a hamster you need to: feed it [which means give it water to], bathe it, clean its cage once every 10 days, play with it, and last but not least LOVE IT! well i went out yesterday and was some adorable dwarf hamsters, so i got one and now i have one called tinker. Its so playful and cute.

I have been a hamster owner since i was 7 and i have learned alot about the little furries from my own experiences. For older beginners, i suggest russian Dwarf hamsters, due to their lovable nature and human friendly ways (for older people because their small bodies tend to be harder to hold). Where, for younger owners, i would recommend teddy bear hamsters (they are larger and are easier to hold if they start to squirm). I have also found that when teddy bear hamsters get older, some start to let their hygiene go, cleaning their long fur less. To me, the best way to bathe Your teddy hammy is to take a shallow bucket/ pan and fill it with luke warm water (no more than neck length on your hammy). If no shallow bucket is available, take a regular bucket and (once its filled to about 1 inch away from the top) drape a large wash cloth over the rim and let some of the center of the cloth dip into the water. water will fill this hammock & you have a perfect place to bathe your furry friend.

Hey there, Im kaitlynn. I live in FortMcMurray, Alberta but yesterday I was in Edmonton, Alberta. I was going to go shopping so I had some more cloths after spring break but then I saw some puppies in a petstore at the West Edmonton Mall, after that I just had to go take a look at the other pets. There were some Teddy bear hamsters so I bought two of them because they were just so cute! Now I have two male teddybear hasmters, one I named Cheako and he's a light brown/golden coulor and he's really friendly. The other one is his big brother which I can't decide what to name him, but he's black and white, him and his brother (Cheako) have the same patterns on them but Cheako has light brown and white fur instead of black and white. My black hamster is really mean, he bites at people when they try to pick him up. They're just babies still so I keep them in the same cage. But soon Im going to get another cage for them.

HI! My name is Alveena and I just got two teeny tiny baby dwarf hamsters! I named them Kisses and Hugs. They are so cute! I've never had hamsters before but I'm looking forward to the experience.

I bought my daughter three hamsters and sadly within a day two died, we had a long hair left. We went to get a repalcement hamster at a different pet store and ended up with three more (they were being sold as snake food for $1.09). When we got home we realized that we now had two males and two females. They were housed in the same cage for two days (not recommended) The female that we got with the males became noticably fatter so we figured she was pregnant, sure enough she had a litter of 9 pups. They are now 10 days old and very healthy. Our other female (long hair) gave birth two days ago to 8, sadly one died. Our total is now 20 hamsters. So far one baby has a home, I don't think my 2 and 3 yr old will let anymore go. We have switched our males over to bins due to the bigger size of them, once the pups are big enough both mothers will get bins as well as all the pups. Although this was completely unplanned it has been a great experience for my daughters, They now only take care of the males due to their age and I don't want them disturbing the mothers. We have documented (a little) the progress of the hamsters and are considering breeding again in the future, our hamsters have their own room, so there is plenty of space.

One of our "baby" golden hamsters just had her first litter-14 or 15 pups! We got her when she was about 6 weeks old and mated her with a 1 year old male. We weren't even sure she was a female until they connected almost immediately. We are very excited but also worried about finding housing should the entire litter survive. Wish us luck. Hamsters are so sweet.

When I was 8 years old all I wanted was a hamster. Christmas was coming and I was so excited for it to soon arrive. I would ask my friends if they knew if I was getting anything small and furry. But the wait was over, My mom brought in 2 Desert Dwarf Hamsters! I was so happy, and til this day I have only 1 Desert Dwarf Hamster.

I have a Teddy bear hamster and she is very nice, her name is Sammy. when you first get a Teddy bear hamster they will not like to be alone umless they have been in a cage by themselves. They will Squeal for a little while, but they will get used to the home. (do NOT pick up a Teddy bear hamster or any other hamster while they are sleeping they will bite.)

My hamsters name is Rosey. she is very fun, smart, and the thing I like most about her is she knows who her mommy is(ME). She comes right to me when i open the cage and I always know when she wants me to hold her. She will start squealing and making a lot of noise. Another thing she does is when she wants a treat she stands on 2 feet and just stares at me until I look at her. then she starts doing tricks and it is so funny. hi! my name is Diana, 2 weeks ago me and my brother bought two females hamsters. we named one snowhite and the other one tina. snowhite has black and white squares all over her body, she looks like a chessboard. she is so cute, and tina was a mix of brown, white and black. 2 days after we bought the hamsters we found out that tina wasn't a female, but a male. Now they have 16 pups. I don't know what i'm going to do wih all of them but i'm sure i won't let them go because they're just so cute. I love them all.

i had bought a hamster and 2 weeks later my boy hamster was not so much a boy when i found nipples on her and a few days later she had ten babies! i was told that first time mothers will often not care for them, all but Haley did an excellent job, all ten of them survived. I kept 6 of them and had to give the rest to homes and pet stores. My father had built a cage out of a big tupperware bin and it housed two hamsters with the metal opens and all on the cage until one day the hamster managed to get the lid off and impregnated his sister. My hamster ended up having 4 babies, two died when only a few days old and two survived. I kept one and had to get rid of two of the other hamters and i had five. recently the first mother Haley became very ill and was bleeding from her privates, we did not now what was wrong and a long 5 days later she passed away, she was in a lot of pain and couldn't move. A month later my hamster Bear from the second litter died and he had lost his apetite and started to become very ill before he passed. Three days later Bears mother died. The cause was unknown just old age i guess. Today i have 2 Hamsters and it has been a long journey but also a very cool experience i love my hamsters with all my heart! rest in piece Hales, Bear and Peyton!

My dwarf hamster Mr.CC MIGHT die! I think he has a tumor on his side. Well first it started on his belly and expanded to his right side. I read that it means they are getting close to death. But after i read this, it said to have a vet check the lumps out. Thats exactly what i'm gonna do. Even though he will die soon because he is almost 3, at least i might know how to prevent the lumps from getting worse. I love my CC, even though he bit me 3 times today, and i feel soooo bad for him. But this page did help me. ALOT.

I have a dwarf named Hermione (after Harry Potter's friend) and she is my precious little baby girl. On cold days, she likes to snuggle in my hand. It's absolutely adorable! Sure, she's nipped me a few times, but it's because I was being careless by not washing my hands after handling food. Other than that, I can tell she loves me as much as I love her. I'm glad I got her, she will always be my little angel.

Hi! I've got a roborovski dwarf hamster! He's just such a cutie! I bought him when he was 7 weeks old, well now (21st February 07) he's 17 weeks old! In a way he's a bit like a dog..., but in a cute way. Most of the time when I call his name (Buzzy) he comes running up to me and if he's really really happy to see me he just jumps up. Not even caring if I'm ready to catch him or not. In wikipedia it says roborovski's aren't good pets... Well that's a lie. Buzzy's just terrific. He's not only cute, friendly and clever. He's also very loyal. If you ask me roborovski's are great pets! Though he was a bit aggressive when I did an experiment to see if he and my albino mouse could live together... Anyway, after one gruesome fight I put Buzzy back into his own cage, which is smaller than Bittie's (my albino mouse's) cage. All the same hamsters and mice are really wonderful!!! Other than those two, I've got 2 water-turtles. Now they're just fantastic! I used to have a snake aswell (Hissy), but he died one year ago... :-( I was so sad, but at least we had really great times together before his death. It's always so sad when a pet you loved so much dies...- But whoever doesn't think that is cold-hearted and evil...

Anyway, if your looking for a small cut pet i suggest a hamster. A Teddy bear hamster! When they are adults, they are so furry! If you get a hamster you need to take good care of it. You need to feed it, water it, bathe it, make sure it has something to chew on, and clean it's cage. When you bathe a hamster you need to use Johnson's baby shampoo, and bathe them in a sink. Make sure the water is warm not to hot/ not to cold. Don't make the water deep! Remember that they have trouble swimming!

Hi there! I'm Holly. If you are thinking of getting a hamster you have chosen the perfect pet! These animals are sweet, loving, and adorable! About a year and 1/2 ago i got a BLACK BEAR hamster. She was so sweet (I named her tootsie). Although she died a couple of days ago (they live a short time) she was one of the best hamsters I have had! I think that all kinds of hamsters should be great!(as long as they dont bite alot). Anyway just to let you know, when you get a hamster you take on ALOT of responsibility! You have to feed, water, and excercise it. Also every or everyother weekend you have to clean it's cage. Hello, everyone! I have read the comments about dwarf hamsters being nice and friendly but my one is like a total pit bull! Her name is roxy and Ive had her for two years, since she was 5 weeks old. I have never been able to handle her because of her unusual aggression, Ive tried and tried absoloutely EVERYTHING, but I just can't seem to get through to her!

On Jan 15th,2007 my normal agouti campbell dwarf female gave birth to 4 babies. I bred her with an opal dwarf male with a very sweet nature. They were my first try at breeding and are now 3 weeks old and about to be weaned and separated from mom as they are bugging her to death. They are so sweet and love to be handled and go in their playpen with mom and all their toys. 2 of them are normal, 1 is an opal and 1 is a red eyed argente, her coat is ginger colored and she's so sweet. I named her scarlett because of the red eyes and intend on keeping her. From info found on line, twice a day I put a small glass ashtray with a piece of bread and warm milk which they just loved, also some hamster food and each a small piece of cheese and apple pieces. They thrived on this diet and are growing fast. Hope this helps anyone trying breeding for the first time, it's great fun and I love them all and have homes waiting for them. Hi everybody! 2 months ago I bought an albino russian hamster, I would recommend people buy a russian hamsters because they are very clever, playful and kind hearted. I know that albino hamsters are more docile and friendly than normal hamsters, so you could imagine what its like to have an albino russian hamster. Her name is morgana, and she wakes up in the morning to play with me. I will tell you something, maybe you won't believe me, but maybe you will: she knows her name! I have two short haired teddy bear hamsters. They are very funny. Their names are Salt and Pepper. They tackle each other for fun and push each other off the wheel. Sometimes they will even push each other out of the way when they are in the ball. Salt is white with a few gray spots, and Pepper is mostly brown with tan by his tail.

Dwarf hamsters like it when you put toilet paper in their cages. Also be careful about what you use for bedding do not use ceder or pine it will give them slivers and will kill them, and do not keep it in a tight space in your hands or they will bite you.

I have 1 hamster (sandy) and it's a girl. Shes a teddy bear. she is so fat because we lost her wheel, and some how she can get out of her ball. My dad saw her running across the floor, so today we got her one, she is so happy. Hamsters make real good pets, they live for 5 years at the most (though my bros friends hamster is going on for 8) they are quite quiet and they are so cute. so what the heck, why not buy one of those little things. (you can get them at any pet shop and they are only $15 at the most and when on sale between 2-7) go hamsters!

I went to the pet store one day with my niece who loves animals. She was looking at the dogs, when I noticed this little cotton ball doing laps around a cage. It amused me, the little ball had a lot of character. I went home and kept thinking about her. I've never had a hamster before but it seemed like then was the time:) That was back in April 06 and my little albino dwarf hamster, Dexterious is a great little buddy. Some people think she looks like a witch's pet with her red eyes, but I think she is beautiful and it amazes me how much of a personality a little girl can have!

I can't express to anyone that doesn't know, how good a hamster can be as a pet, and how sad I am that i lost her. She died in my arms wrapped in a small towel. Woosey Woo was my first hamster and I have learned a lot about them. I just got another teddy Bear hamster, his name is scooter and looks identical to woosey. My hamster Verno passed away in September of 2006. She only bit me when the house smelled like food. She was a creamy color. Then before Vernon,I had a grey teddy bear hamster named Daizy. She never bit me once. She bit my cousin Katie because she had a jolly rancher smell on her hand when she went to pet her. Teddy bear hamsters are the best. They are so sweet. My first hamster was the best in the world! She had golden hair and she never bit me at all. she was content to just hang out in her cage. She loved going in her ball to roll around in it all over the living room. My second hamster was as nice but bit me alot, and my sister.

i had to euthanize my hamster too because it had the Wet Tail. we didn't how to best euthanize it so we ended up drowning it in a bucket because thats what daddy did to his puppies when he was a little farmboy. he said it was painless and for the best and now Little Angus is in a better place.

I've had 2 dwarf hamsters in my life and 2 gerbils but by far my hamsters were the best. First I got Simon my little white dwarf with black eyes, who loved me so much and never bit me. Then, because I got one my older sister had to have one, and she had an albino dwarf named Snowball. he bit her right away and eventually became mine. I never handled him until he got old and he didn't bite me. I love hamsters and plan on getting more some day.

I love my teddy bear hamster. I feel bad for it though, because he has been through three name changes...yep; three. At first, when I purchased him, I thought it was a female, and named him Sherbert. I didn't like that name after a week and changed it to Daisy, in memory of my female zebra finch that I loved so dearly. But, tonight, I got a good look at his hind end and discovered he was a boy! I must have gotten him when he was still young because its "parts" hadn't matured yet. I am 100% certain that he's a boy. I named him Chester. I do better with boy hamsters anyway. I think its because they are known to be more docile and easier to tame than females, who tend to be more territorial. I am on my 6th hammy now. My very first was purchased from Wal-Mart, when they were selling hamsters...BOY, that was a LONG time ago. I named him Scooter. My sister got Scooter's sister, and named her Clifford, because she thought that Clifford was a boy! Sound familiar... Scooter lasted for 3 years, until I found him curled up and stiff in his corner. Then I got another boy, named Buddy. I don't remember much about him at all except that he and Scooter were usual brown and white Syrians. Then, I decided to get another when Buddy passed. This one was a unique Black Bear Hamster that I christened Ashes. She was a sweetie but didn't last very long. I adopted a teddy bear hamster named Tigger, but she didn't even last a year because she had what I thought was a bad infection that wouldn't go away, but it turns out it was curable mange. I had to put her down, but didn't realize it was curable. Then, last November, I adopted a Chinese hamster from PetSmart that I named Ruby Rose. Ruby grew ill of a terrible disease known as Wet Tail. For all you newbies who don't know what Wet Tail is, it is an incurable intestinal parasite that causes diarrhea, lethargy, possible black spots on body, and weight loss causing emaciation. I ended up euthanizing Ruby to end her suffering. I just recently got Chester, and he is the light of my life right now. He is so precious and curious. I look forward to many years of happiness with my little guy!

I have had a lot of Cambell's Russian Dwarf Hamsters. I love them. They are easy to take care of and they are very calm in temperment. At the moment I have 4 tan hamsters (Sweet, Sugar, Runnaway, and Spice), as well as one albino (Ice). Sweet and Sugar had a litter of one, then a litter of 2. They were bred very young. Runnaway was born first and now lives with daddy (Sweet), and Spice and Ice are both girls and live with mommy (Sugar). I want to breed my hampsters again after they have had a little break.

Hiyo! Name's Lastaras and I have 2 teddy bear syrian hamsters. They're both female and they're mother and daughter. The mother is Ham-Ham, the daughter is Smokey. Ham-Ham is pure white and for some odd reason has blue eyes instead of black or red, I found that weird. Smokey is a Lilac color. I used to have the Father and one of the siblings of Smokey, but a heat wave hit and they sadly didn't make it. I also have 2 Dwarfs as well. I just recently got the pair. they're about 6 weeks old, and I hope to breed them ^^. the female's wild color, and the male is an opal. they are currently un-named (only had them for two days) On another strange note, I have 5 male cavies and 2 females, and 3 male cats. I got my hamster, Mocha a week after my beloved Cotton died. It was love at first site. I took her home and she settled down. She became a loving part of our family. She loved everyone and everyone loved her. Her favorite spot was on the couch on the very top. Her favorite food was pasta and her worst fear was thunderstorms. My first hamster was named Nutmeg. I had her around the fourth grade (age ten). She is the smartest hamster I've ever had, and also one of the prettiest. She died in the fifth grade sometime, and I cried for what seemed like forever. I'll always remember her, and since then, I've named all my hamsters after nuts, or with the word nut in it.

hi im megan. i have a male Longhaired Golden (Angora) hamster, his name is pudge. my little sister calls him pudge-a-wee-wee (its adorable when she does that) i got my hamster about 9 months ago. my mom and i were at meijers and me the animal lover has to make my way over to see all the adorable pets. all of a sudden i look into one of the cages and all i see is this cute fluff ball siting in a food dish eating looking up at me with the cutest beetie eyes i have ever seen in my life. i convinced my mom to get him. he was sucha pudgy little thing that i had to name him pudge. all he does is eat and sleep hes so lazy that he refuses to run on his wheel... but thank god he likes so run in his ball. ... just today i bought another hamster so pudge wouldnt be lonely but that wasnt a good idea. hey my hamster cloe had her babbies last night. all went well, it a funny story tho :). we thought she wasn't going to endup having any babbies cuz we figured she had been pregnant for 40 days. so we thought we either had two boys or two girls, but when i was cleaning their cage i had them in a carrier and she started doing somthing funny with her back (she and the boy zach were in the same carrier), so i took her down to show my mom. my mom looked at her and then said theres something coming out of her but, so i got the boy out very quickly and put him in an extra cage. we had and put her in her normal cage and she had two. they are both good but they look wierd with no eyes and no fur and no ears but they are so tiny and thats makes them cute. well wish us the best. allie,cloe,zach,and the lil ones (cloes & zachs lil ones)!

My dad told me when he was "observing" her that she had a loss of hair on her butt. Long ago i bought a hamster named Codi The guy gave us this really good bedding to use. One day i came home and picked her up. She was cold and wouldn't move. Her eyes kept closing. I went to the vet in the middle of the night with a towel over her cage and the vet said, "You have the wrong bedding." WE WERE SO MAD AT THAT GUY!!

Hello, my name is Natalie and i have had 2 hamsters in the past 2 months. Well i got one when i was in a pet store with my mom and i had $35 and so i told my mom that i was going to get a hamster and she wasn't ok with it but i asked my dad and he said it was ok and then my mom was ok with it. When we got to the pet store my sis who is a little older than me got a hamster also. They were both boys and they look like twins!! Both of them had long grey hair and were about the same size, my hamster who i named Muffin (they were both boys and my sis named hers Buddy)a week later had what looked like a wet tail with diarreha and i was telling my mom that he dosn't look good because he just sits in the corner of his cage and dosn't do anything even when i pet him. So we were taking care of him and we thought he was actually dead because we could hold him and he wouldn't move and so we were warming him up and then i put him on the ground to see if he was truly dead and he moved so i didn't give up. All day i was holding him and wouldn't keep my eyes off him until it was dinner and so i told my other sis (i have 2)she offered to stay up with her boyfriend and take care of him while they studied. I didn't like that because i was going to sleep with him because i put him in a bucket with a blanket and so i finally agreed with her to watch him. Later that night i woke up (on a school night) and i got dressed and i didn't know it was 2 in the morning and when i went to go downstairs like i normally do on a morning myt sis told me to go to bed because it was 2 in the morning. When it was the actual morning my mom told me that Muffin (my hamster)died in his sleep. I was so sad i cried all day (even at school) because i looked in the bukcet i had him in and he was as stiff as a board and VERY cold. My sis felt sorry so she went to the store and got me a new golden hamster!!! A couple of days later i noticed she had dri-tail also and so i read the instructions and added 16 drops to the water bottle and then i phoned the pet store later on and she said that i had to give my hamster 2 drops directly and i did that and today my hamster is the best there can be and is perfectly healthy!!! On friday i am going to get a White Russian Dwarf Hamster!! It is SO cute!!

Hey! I have an about 1 year old hamster! His name is Mo and I rescued him. One day I walked into the rescue center to finish up the papers on my two new dogs and they had this adorible fat hamster in the lobby. So about five minutes later, I had an adorible fat hamster in my car! ANYWAY...he loves my chinchilla. Their cages are next to each other and they watch each other. Baby (Chinchilla) likes to watch Mo run on his wheel. (Baby used to watch tv..but now she gets a live show!!haha) And they both sit at the edge of the cage and Baby makes those oddly cute noises and Mo runs and tries to find a way to get to Baby. Whenever I let Baby out, the first place she goes is to the hamster. Mo is now a very friendly happy hamster, living next door to his best friend. When I got him, he was scared and spent most of his waking hours hiding under his wheel. I had to hand feed him, and to him that was torture...but he is now happy and is loved. I could not ask for a better hamster, and I think that he could not ask to be any happier!

I have two dwarf hamsters one girl and one boy. they are caged together and are not related at all. we are expecting a litter of babbies in the next week or so. my female is tan her name is Cloe and my male is dark with a darker stripe down the back his name is zach. my female has a faint line down her back of a darker tan. they get along very well and are both very social with people. you put your hand in the cage and they both come running. its like they race to your hand and they climb right on so you can pick them up. my 3 year old sister holds and plays with them all the time and she even drop zach a couple of times. they have never bitten anyone and i believe they never will. they look so cute togeter. i have a pic of zach standing on his back legs holding a microphone with his front paws and it looks like his singing into it ( he's really trying to eat it tho). i also have a pic of cloe and zach kissing, its so cute. well can't wait to have the babies. ill tell u when she has them and how many she has. well gonna head out now, bye.

im Glenn. ive had 2 hamsters, a short haired golden beigey gold hamster named munch, it died about a year ago. i fell in love with hamsters and got a teddy bear hamster named abe. i got both names from a video game (oddworld munch's oddesy) . Anyway abe was very afraid of other hamsters or people touching his things like trying to get him out of his cage. But this site helped me realize why and also every once in a while it would make very loud hissing nouses and freak out on her back, then i realized it was in heat. thanks.

hi, i have had 3 hamsters in the past (skipper, gravel, puddles) and now i have bear and oreo. after i got bear i noticed that he was kind of lonely so i wanted to get him a friend. so i bought another cage, and another wheel and food bowl and water bottle came with it, so i was all set up, then i bought the hamster (i was going to name it panda or puppy) but while we were driving the 1 hour home, he chewed through his box that the petlady put him in, so we searched the entire truck for him, but sadly we couldn't find him. i think he froze in the truck overnight because this was in the winter. i am very sad about the disappearance-death of my new hamster, but then i bought oreo so i am doing better. the only thing i have to say is if you are carrying your hamster in a truck or vehicle make sure that he doesn't escape.

I dont have a hamster but my freind does. Every time i go over her house she lets me play with it. i gave her a tissue box that i made and it looks like a log cabin. i put a little patio on it and i stuck one of those little paper umbrellas on it and she puts it up when she is watching her hamster. i also crocheted this bed and when i went over to her house i saw the hamster pull it out of the tissue box and stick it in the corner. the hamsters name is nikki, named her hamster after me. when i get one i will name it after her. omg, nikki is the cutest thing (yeah, the hamster and OF COURSE me!).

Hiya, my best friend's hamster had babies!Well i had to beg her to give me some, well at least i got one and i have two hamsters now! One I named Dot and the other one is named squrit. Dot is bigger than squrit because squrit is a baby, 1 month old and Dot i am not sure because i got her at the pet store. i think she is about 1 year old. well i wanted to tell you people this because you see the first day i got squrit, Dot got mad. well lets just say Dot was fighting squrit. squrit was then kept in a big card board box and the walls were tall. Dot was kept in the normal cage and well i thought that squrit was going to be ok and not escape. well the next morning i checked in Dot's cage and she was there. then i checked in squrit's cage. i looked in her bed she wasn't there i looked in her tube she wasn't there either, SHE WAS GONE! i looked every where in the house but i guessed she was in the vent( i was sad so). then 3 days later i thought she was still dead. i went downstairs to watch some t.v and well i heard some rustling. well i looked around and no one was there. then i saw squrits face pop out under the couch. i ran up to her and picked her up and kissed her. well i guess u would think thats nasty, but what would u do if u lost your hamster for three days? Well by the way squrit and dot are both dwarf hamsters and they are both boys. anyone who reads, this just think think about your pet hamster (if u have one), and think about what it's life would be like without you. would she/he die or live. so take care of your hamster, it needs you. well i just wanted to put his comment in because i love hamsters and all animals. remember this, you and your hamster will live a long and happy life.

i used to have a german hamster named "hampy." i never knew if it was a boy/girl. but "he" was very gentle and sweet. now i have a shorthaired hamster named "daisy." she is a butterscotch color, and very cute! a night after i got her, i walked into the room, and i guess i startled her, but, she started running around her pen, and bouncing off the walls. i was terrified! then she jumped onto her tube, and sat up on her hind legs, and bared her teeth, and started hissing at me! so, i left her alone. i came back later, and she was fine, let me hold her, and was very cuddly...who knows! :)

I just got two hamsters about a month and a week ago. They are doing fine but one (Lightning) has this problem when he is scared or in his ball chasing my two cats, he decides to relieve himself alot. My other hamster (Soupy (my little sister named him)) runs alot and has a problem with big, bulgy eyes. My sister sometimes mistreats them so they are pretty scared of us both. All I have to say is to treat them well and don't worry about them having scaredy-cat problems like relieving themselves or big, bulgy eyes. You just have to treat them well and try to keep them healthy and be glad that they lived with a person such as you.

I just got 2 new baby hamsters-a little white spotted one and a bigger black hammie!

heya two of my hamsters just recently passed away.:( they lived for exactly two years and they were the best. the first one to pass away was tiger asyrian hamster, he was very active and loved attention. after coming back from our holiday he started to lose hair and have really dry skin, then he had loads of tumors and infected abseses. we knew that if we took him to the vets they would charge us loads because thats what they did before and put him down. after a few weeks he couldnt eat because his mouth had ulsers inside. then the next day while being nursed he fell asleep, but he didnt die. he went all limp and couldnt move his head, then he lay paralysed in his cage and was breathing heavily for about 1 hour. he died on saturday the 21stof january at 1:40am. we buried him near a lake under a tree. that same day the kitten (binni) got hold of angelo. he was a fluffy chocolate minx hamster, and broke most of his ribs on the left and punctured his left lung. we thought he was fine because he was running around like normal, but the next day we noticed he was laying on his back but was moving. he was still alive but struggled to breathe. then after half an hour he passed away peacefully(on 23rd january 7:25pm). he will also be buried next to he best friend tiger by the lake.

Try to feed your hams food that will protect their bodies naturally-they love little bits of fruits and vegetables-chard, spinach, especially the roots, so mom doesn't have anything to throw away when making dinner!) If your hamster gets congested, try filling your bathroom sink with a tiny bit of hot water and holding (carefully so they don't wiggle out of your hand), your hamster above the steam for just a few seconds here and there--you will be surprised how much this clears them up. You can listen to them right after and hear a difference! Place a tiny bit of orange, rind and all (approximately 1/8 of an inch),in the cage if he/she is ill. You will see that it will be eaten! Remember plenty of good water if you only feed them store-bought feed, it is very dry to their bodies. Happy Hamming!

I bought a dwarf hamster 2 weeks ago, we call her Tickles. Three days ago I went into my room to check on her and found 5 babies! Four have black eyes and one has red, like her Mom. She's a first time Mom, and wow is she doing a great job! I like watching her lick the babies, it's so cute. I definately suggest having a dwarf hamster, as long as they're tame.

My dwarf hamsters have just had their babies. It was a litter of five but one disapeared.(i think momma hamster ate it) We have just been able to handle them. One of them turned out to have way lighter fur than the rest and red eyes. I think its an albino. I cant wait to sex them and find out which gender they are. The albino one's name is Oddball. Hey, I have just brought an Albino hamster (and didnt tell my dad, he was just glad it wasn't a puppy, hehe). my hamster is called TJ and he is the cutest thing. i also have an english lop rabbit( house trained) and when i introduced them they got on great. TJ is always chasing my rabbit round the house when he is in his ball, its so cute and funny to watch them both play.

I've had two Teddy Bear Hamsters. they were the sweetest things. i loved them dearly. though i didn't have both at the same time, i'm sure they would have been awesome friends! hehe. We had a golden hamster, and two dwarfs, a campbell, and russian one. we are back to 13 dwarfs and 1 golden. Our babies are the absolutely cutest hamsters ever, they are white with greay spots, and we have two albinos.

Update: Hi, my name is Lori. You might remember me from the post below dated 11/20/2004. I still have my teddybear hamster, Go-Go. He has been with me for two years now and has never been sick. I love him alot. He is so tame now. I ask him if I can give him a hug and he lets me and then I ask if I can give him a kiss and he pushes my face away with his hand. It's sooo cute! Sometimes I pretend I'm going to give him a hug and I sneak a kiss. He eats regular hamster food but sometimes I give him a piece of a cookie that I'm eating (as long as it's not chocolate). He doesn't really store things in his cheeks because I told him once that as long as he's with me, he'll never not have food. I bought him a new cage last Christmas because his old one was yellow and the new one is blue and it matched the decor better but I wish I kept his old one because it was easier to clean. Oh, well, you live and learn. I also have a guinea pig named Ginny (last October) and a chihuahua named Sierra and she is 1 year old and a maltese named Disney all since my last post. Need to correct a "Social Behaviors" issue. The statement about putting males together may hold true for dwarfs, but do not, repeat, DO NOT place two Serian (common) males from different litters together under any circumstances. They will fight, and they fight viciously. I have experienced this*; it only takes a second or two to begin an attack. I cannot confirm by experience, but I'm told by my local PetCo small animals manager that when it comes to Serians, it's usually the Females you can get to commune. (Note: I mean by that "Play" together. Females are territorial and should not be placed in eachothers cages.) *I did not try to place two males together; I unknowingly had one escapee while playing with another on the floor. I presently take care of seven hamsters.

I recently had a hamster, though I never knew what kind. (I think it was a teddy bear hamster) I got it for Christmas, from my cousin, to help me get over the death of my mouse. Right before we moved though, months later, he died. But we buried him here at this new house. I have two Syrian hamsers named Binky and Bonnie. Though they are both girls I feel that they really love each other. Bonnie is more of the "Leave me alone" kinda girl, and Binky is more of the "I want you to hold me right now" kinda girl. I want to breed Binky(Binx) with a male Syrian hamster named Peanut(Pea-Wee). Once, I found Bonnie hanging from the top of the wired roof of their glass tank. I had to help her down. They used to have a plastic wheel in their cage, but they tore it into two pieces. Dwarfs hamster are real escape artists. I have had many small ones escaped from wire cages. So far I managed to recovered them everytime. To avoid losing them I used to keep the young ones in an old glass aquarium (2'x1'x1') until they are bigger. Once I had one hamster that escaped from the aquarium. When I found it and put it back into the aquarium, all the other hamsters surrounded it much like bees in a beeshive. Soon after that, while the escaped hamster busied himself in the food dish (guess it must be pretty hungry after being away for more than a day). The other hamsters began to leap at the water bottle which I hung to the aquarium with wires. And guess what, after some time, one hamster actually managed to climb up the bottle and was about to jump off the aquarium. I managed to stop it just in time. I immediately remove the bottle and gave them a water dish instead. In retrospect, I may have just observed an interogation of the escapee and he divulged the escape route including the location and method to escape.

I acquired a rust colored teddy bear hamster. he was very nervous and bit anyone who touched him. a few days after i brought him home he stopped biting. I gave him the name Napoleon. i have had my hamster sam for 3 weeks and 1 day and she has been great. i have to put her in the kitchen at night because she keeps me up with her obbsessive running. i just asked my mom if i could get 2 and she said yes, but i just found out that you cant house 2 females together. she said that i cant breed so i guess im stuck with just 1. 2 days ago i was cleaning her cage and i forgot she was in her cage and she hopped out of the bottom. i looked beside my dresser and there she was so i put her to my chest and held her for a while and then put her back in her cage. i was so happy i found her! well bye for now Carly Wilcox

Hi I have a Russian Dwarf Hamster, albino, called Snowflake, who was one of the 2 hamsters I had bought when they were 6 weeks old, but one died in the space of a week. It was heartbreaking. Boris (also Russian Dwarf) did not want his food and would not eat any pieces of fruit. if you had laid him on his back he would have stayed there, even after a tiny shot of an antibiotics from the nearby vet. it was not enough to save our little furry baby and he died the following morning. I will never know why he went but i'll always love him, and i will always love snowflake x x x

Hey! Im back again! heres my baby dwarf hamster update. They are now 12 days old and haven't opened their eyes yet. They wander out of the nest quite often and eat some solid food. The mother dwarf hamster is now expecting AGAIN so we wait anxiously for the new litter to come in. We have sadly lost one baby dwarf hamster so we now only have 12-instead of 13. hi my name is victoria. yesterday i finally got a hamster after begging for one after like 3 years! I named my hamster babiie. my hamster is very small and very cute and will always be a babiie to me plus, whenever i talk to it i call it babiie or babz. I came on your website beacuse I wanted to know why my hamster wont let me touch it! When we first brought it home my mom took it out it went crazy n fell on the floor but luckily it has no damage. I think that might be half the reason its not very trustful with humans now. But hes only a few weeks old and whenever I pet her or try to pick her up she turns her head quickly which makes me think she's going to bite me so i pull my hand away fast. But now im getting the hang of it and when she does that i just slowly pull my hand away from her. I think shes starting to have trust in me because she doesnt seem so tense anymore. She loves to run around her cage and climb up the bars and go on the top of her wheel. Shes very entertaining to watch and shes also very clumsy! She loves to run in her wheel and thinks shes the greatest thing in the world! Im dying to hold her but I cant until shes used to me!! And the strangest part is my chu wa wa dog that hates every other animal in the world, loves babiie! He'll watch her and keep a close eye on her and we even have pictures of them together! I used to have a rabbit and even then I wasnt as excited as a hamster. Im excited to hold her and cant wait! Hi folks just to tell you these guys are great! My brother and I got a boy and girl that had been cage mates from birth. Fluffy the boy is soft and slow while Cookie my adventurous one is a small linebacker. She isn't afraid of anything. Thats why she got out when a tube got loose. We gave up after searching the 2 story house for 2 days. Fluffy was going crazy so Mom took us back to the store to find a little mate (Cookie Dough). She finally decided Fluffy was OK and they settled in. Then after being AWOL 6 days Mom found Cookie! She was a little dirty and very thirsty (we had been leaving water dishes around). Fluffy was crazy and Cookie Dough said, O good Another Girl now we outvote the boys!! They all three are happy! (Mom says Cookie looks kinda fat soooo.) We are excited what a way to start the summer. Hey i just got a teddy bear hamster his name is Weezer and he is oh so very cute. We only had him for a day now! the best thing i love about him is that he is so small it looks like he is hopping. We got him a little house to put in his cage and he hops on then hops off. But since he is not used to us he gets scared and goes in the tube we got him. I love it when he stuffs his cheeks its the cutiest thing ever.

Dwarf hamsters are small. mine is a daredevil and her name is snoozie. she jumps of the t.v. stand and jumps off anything i put her on. it was funny yet a lil scary at the same time well... no sickness and i only had her for a couple of months. well i put her in a little ball so she doesnt get squished. i take good care of her, but she does jumps off the things i put her on unexpected.

A few weeks ago I bought my daughter a hamster. She wanted to name him whiskers. He was so cute, then about 4 days ago I noticed that he was not doing well, so I took him to the vet. They put him on antibiotics and I had to feed him with a syringe. I took him to work with me today, and unfortunately he died. My daughter is out of town with her dad and I could not bare to have her come home and find that whiskers passed away, so I went to another pet store and bought her a Teddy Bear Hamster. Due to allergies, I never had pets until my daughter was about eight years old, old enough to look after them. We bought two bunnies, mini rex, Amber and Mika, who are the most darling bunnies in the world. We have an area inside the house where they can run and play, and another one outside where they spend most of their time from May to September. When we got the bunnies, I saw, for the first time, a teddy bear hamster. One of them looked at me and seemed to be saying "take me home with you", which I did. I do not know where the names come from, but he was soon referred to as Sir Quincey, or "my little man". I was amazed by how much I could love this little fellow. He was very funny, and for a hamster, very smart. He was also fearless, he enjoyed playing with the bunnies, and much to my surprise, their babies too. When the baby bunnies were playing outside, he would round them up for me. In the morning I would call him and he would poke his head up and I would get him to play in bed with me. He used to sit on my lap when I was working on the computer, and loved to snuggle in a pocket as I did my housework. Thankfully a friend did several videos of him and the bunnies. He lived for three years and I still miss him. Our bunnies are 8 years old now, and happy as can be.

I got the cutest albino russian dwarf hamster. My mom took me to the pet store, and after some hard work, I walked out with JayJay. The pet store clerks told me that Jay is too young to tell if it is male or female, so I assumed it was a male. After some time Jay became Jay-lo. We still call her Jay though. She is the cutest hamster possible. So cute that you want to squeeze her as hard as you can, but you can't because you want her to live. She's all white with black eyes instead of red. I don't know why that is but I like black eyes better. Jay is still living happily in my house, learning a new trick each day!!!!!

I am a proud owner of two gorgeous dwarf hamsters, Cutie & Demon. They are the cutest little pets you could ever own, I think there great for children or adults that might be allergic to larger pets such as cats and dogs. Another wonderful factor is that they are very clean, and tend to keep there litter inside the cage, unlike the common gerbil. They are very friendly and easily tamed. I love my babies.

Be sure to ask the the people if they are hand raised, if they are not most of the time they will be really mean hamsters. This type is small and comes in gold with white on it. They live for up to 5 years if you take really good care of it. Golden hamsters like to run around in their cage, or in the ball. My hamster likes to roll around outside because it gets to see new things. But be sure your watching your hamster or you will not see it again. So if you are at a young or old age get a golden hamster, they are the best!!! [Be sure to hold it a lot or when it grows up it will bite you alot.]

Hi I have a Tortiseshell Hamster named Brownie. Tortiseshell Hamsters are related to Black Bear Hamsters. I love Brownie because she is cuddly and cute. The good thing about Tortiseshell and Black Bear Hamsters is that the hamster is guaranteed not to bite. Brownie is about 10 weeks old. When I first bought her we also bought her brother too. They were both about 2 weeks old at the time. A few weeks later we saw both of them mating. It happened to be my hamster Brownie that got pregnant. the guy in the pet store said they were both FEMALES! Then we put them in seperate cages and Brownie is now 6 days pregnant and her litter is a few days away from coming into the Hamster World. If you have a Hamster that is pregnant I would advise you to get a wooden shelter or something to keep the hamster comfortable while giving birth. Hopefully the babies are healthy and like their parents. Tortiseshell and Black Bear Hamsters usually range from $8-$30 depending on the store you purchuse them from. If you know a store that has them and if you would like to have another pet I would advise you buy one since they are such great animals.

Hi i have 2 mice named Ella and Jack. They are really easy to care for and they make great pets. So yes hamsters are adorable little critters because i have 2 so i know. But i also, like i said before, have 2 mice. I am breeding them so if you want to breed critters i would recommend you get mice because i tryed breeding hamsters and all they did was fight. Hello! I had many diffrent types of animals in my life, my pet hamster being the first one. He was black and white, and for that reason I named him Mickey Mouse (I loved, and still do, all of the Disney characters). We called him Mike for short. Mike was really energetic at night (and kept me up at times as well!) and a really sweet, loving pet. I recommened hamsters for anyone willing to give them proper care! They are easy to take care of, and are worth every penny! Unfortunetly, our little Mickey Mouse passed away a couple weeks ago (I had him for three and a half years!). This is a really informative site! I love it, and use it as a guide for my many pets. But I have a reccomendation. Please give info about Gerbils as well! They are great little pets (I have two) and I would love it if you discuss them as well. Thank you!

Hi! My name is Pam and I am 44 years old. My kids and I love our critters. Oh, by the way....Critters = Hamsters! Right now, we have (3) Teddy Bears (1 male and 2 females, 2 Pandas (1 male & 1 female) and (1) Golden male. We are going to have a blessed critter event in our home this week. Peaches, one of our female teddy bears is due to give birth on 3/18/05. Peaches is a very sweet hamster and so she should give birth to a very well tempered litter of pups. We are anxiously awaiting the birth of Peaches first litter. Hopefully, we will get at least one more that is exactly like her.

Hi everyone! I am the proud owner of two dwarf hamsters. They are both extremely special to my ever growing family of pets. Their names are Mike Wazowski and James P. Sullivan (Sully). Sully is very unique in that he was born without a front left leg. He gets around great though and can do almost everything any other hamster can do. Mike Wazowski is an avid wheel runner and can go for hours on end. I had to buy him a race track to run in his ball in so I could keep track of him in the house! I have had other breeds of hamsters before, and none of them have compared to the fun that these two guys bring!

I have a hamster named Emily (and other rodents). I was reading some comments and saw one where a person was thinking of releasing their hamster into the wild. Im not trying to be mean, but you should NEVER release a hamster (or most animals that have been raised in captivity for that matter)into the wild. It will not know how to defend itself, find food, or basically it will not survive. If you can no longer keep your hamster, find a friend, pet shop, or breeder who will be willing to keep your hamster.

My hamster can sleep on my head at night and not move (i love it when she does that, clean my teeth and then it gets sparkly (i love shiny teeth). One time i took Jessica to the store and she ran everywhere until i called her name. I was all "JESSICA!" then she came right to me. i trained her to come when i called her name and get her food out of the bag (when she is in her cage) when she is hungry. Hi, I am Brooke and I am 13 years old and I just got a teddy bear hamster 2 weeks ago. Her name is Charlotte and she is doing very well. She has not been sick yet. I have an exersise wheel in her cage and i put her in the ball at least every other day. I also have a rat and two mice. Charlotte gets alone with one of the mice and I can put them in the same ball! But the other mouse and rat both dont get along with any other ones. I had a hamster named Jackie that ran down the steps in her ball! The ball broke and we couldnt find her, but a few hours later we found her under a box!!

I saw this site and just had to put in a good word for my dearly departed hamster family members. I had never had a hamster before and was very scared to get one. I was afraid that I would not be able to get attached. That all changed the day I brought my little Siggy, Fluffermunchkin home. I fell in love with him instantly and although my parents were angry I got him (I was 18 at the time) they too fell in love with him. I spoiled him rotten and one year later I fell in love with a fat and fluffy dwarf that I saw in a pet store. I brought her home and she resided in a posh house next to Siggy. I named her Shredder because of her aptitude for shredding TP, TP rolls, wood sticks etc. Both of them lived 2 years and a bit each and filled our lives with Joy. After a three month grieving period (for shredder) my family and I decided it was time to add new family members to our family and so we went out together and picked out two brothers from a litter at petsmart. Rocky and Strawberry (for his beautiful red eyes)are spoiled as ever and I know that they are really happy that my family had the opportunity to know Siggy and Shredder :) God bless the hamsters we all love!

My boyfriend and I have a white and blonde Teddy Bear hamster named Baby Puff. He is our little baby, and the most special baby in the whole world! He loves to be cuddled, and sometimes even snuggles up next to us or falls asleep in bed with us. Sometimes he likes to play by swinging from our hands on his little hands and feet, or by sliding down our arms like a slide. Afterwards, he gets very tired from all the exercise and sleeps on his back like a puppy. We have trained him to follow our finger when we call him. His other favorite thing to do is exploring. We love our baby so very much and in turn he is extremely loving. He can always make you feel better just by cuddling in your hand.

During the end of her last week I began to see less and less of her and usually she was pretty active! I miss her so much and what upsets me the most is that I have no clue how she died. Hi, My name is Lori and I have a teddy bear hamster named Go-Go. He is very cute. I have had him for over a year now. He is doing very well. Not a sick day in his life! He has had a cold, though. Runny nose and having a hard time breathing. I found this out that he was having a hard time breathing because he was curled up sleeping on my piano bench and he had his mouth open while he was sleeping and his nose was running. When I had my dwarf hamster, Tugboat (she died January 8, 2004), I took her to the vet and the vet said to give her just a nibble of pediacare cold and allergy medicine from a dropper and it worked. I would give her just a little nibble when I would see that she was having a hard time breathing. It could be months in between. I gave some to Go-Go that day and he is doing fine. I took Go-Go out of his cage and he likes to crawl inside my printer (where the paper comes out) and curl up and fall asleep. He is in there sleeping now and he is so cute. He looks like a little lion cub. Sometimes I comb his hair so that he looks like a real lion.

Hi, my name is melissa and i just bought my son a teddy bear hamster but it died that night, i went back and got another one and it was doing fine until i put it in my room. I keep my room cooler than usual so i am assuming that these particuliar kind of hamsters need heat or need to keep a nice room temp but not too cold. The other hamster that i have in my room which is a dwarf hamster seems to be unaffected by the cold but both of the bear hamsters died because of the coldness. So i feel this is a very major factor with these types of hamsters. I noticed that several of you that have these kinds of hamsters are having the same problem so do me a favor and see if the room temp has anything to do with it. I have to keep my room very cold because i cant sleep if its not and i get hot flashes really bad so i have to keep cool. So the bear hamster i had was doing ok until i put it in my room so i have to assume that the cold will kill these hamsters. Thanks

Well, Stuie is feeling better. I took him to vet but I realize that I knew more about hamster then that stupid vet at Eagle Pass. I took him to Del Rio where the Vet told me not to give them fresh food for a week and thats how he got better. Thanks god. I have had a golden teddy bear hamster called Basil for nearly two years now. He is so funny to look at. I groom him for about 15 minutes a day with a toothbrush to make his fur stay untangled. Recently I got two 5 week old russian dwarf hamsters from Bristol Dogs And Cats Home that had been abandoned at 3 weeks of age. They are so fast and I reckon both of them put together are not as big as Basil. Because Basil can smell the hamsters from the other side of the bedroom he climbs up one side of his cage and drops down to the bottom. I have a teddy bear hamster named Go-Go. He has been with me since the end of September, 2003. I love him alot. He is almost like a person. If he sees me come into the room, he wants me to pick him up. He reaches out to me in between the cage bars for me to pick him up. He is so cute. He gets away with everything because he is so cute. He chews my pillow cases so my pillows have holes in them but I am getting new pillows. He is too big for a wheel to be put into his cage but he has a 12" comfort wheel that he uses when I have him out of his cage. I bought him some stuff at Build A Bear Workshop because alot of those things are just the right size for him. He loves the blue checkered puppy dog house that they sell and I take him for walks with the travel back pack that they sell. Lori P.S. I read somewhere if, after the female has her babies and you have to absolutely touch them, you should mix your hands in the stuff you use to line the cage, i.e., shavings, corn cobs, etc.

a word of warning, if you are thinking about getting a hamster and leaving it in your room, i suggest putting it somewhere else at night because of the wheel. it was impossible for me to find a silent wheel, so almost every night i had trouble going to sleep. (but we found a solution to make the wheel silent)

My two Russian hamsters Tootsie and Ollie have now had their babies! I wrote and told you about it before in this hamster comment section! They had 9 baby hamsters but sadly one died. All is going well and she is looking after then properly. She had them at 8ish yesterday morning! Ill write another comment soon so you know how they are doing.

I have recently learned a very good tip for treating wet tail which is highly effective. even with some of the sickest hamsters. ive treated well over 20 hamsters with wet tail at the pet store i work at. all you need to do is feed the dri tail liquid directly to the hamsters through a dropper. about 8 drops. also add it to the water as directed.

I have several dwarf hamsters. They can be very sweet, however they are extremely territorial as a general rule and are very prone to bite when they are inside their cage. Once they are out of there cage they can be alot of fun. As with any animal or human, personalities can vary and you will need to take time to get to know your pet. You will soon find out their unique personalities and hopefully have a mutually rewarding friendship.

I just wanted to say I got my first hamster a few months ago. I have a Black Bear Hamster named Willow and he is just wonderful and very friendly. He has only bitten when we first got him and very active. Recently he had to go to the Vet cause I noticed he might have wet tail. They kept him over night and are giving him antibiotics and hand feeding him. I have been reading sites that say even with antibiotics he could still die. I really hope not cause he is helped me out in these few months. I feel like he is my child and I talk about him all the time to my friends and co-workers. Just watching him is very peaceful. I have an Albino Hamster named Fleur. She is sweet except for the occasional nip she can give you. She is very entertaining at night when she tries to do gymnastics on the cages bars!I just wanted to say that I love her to bits and always will no matter what.

me and my friend saw 2 russain dwarf albino hamsters and fell in love with them so we bought one each.they are very tame and love to be handled,they are very sweet and loveable.These are the first ones we have ever had and wish to get many more in the future as we are only 11 years oldalthough they need a little more training but are learning extremely fast.

I just celebrated M.J., my fancy dwarf hamsters birthday. She is three months old. Before I had her, I had cats, dogs and fish. I never knew how fun it would be to raise a baby hamster. M.J. is very smart and tame. I play with her every day to make sure that she is not afraid of humans. I also make sure she gets plenty of exercise in a ball and a large, interesting cage complete with a wheel and tunnels. I think hamsters are great pets for responsible kids who do not have room for larger pets. I think you have a great website, too!

I love my dwarfy. his name is minky like a mink coat his fur looks like those mink coats cuz hes gray and white, well you know what mink looks like! but im glad i took him from the evil pet store. they lied to us sooooooo much. the 2 main things that got me mad was they didnt tell us its sex and they didnt even know the name of it. they called it an Asian Dwarf Hamster, which from my knowledge, there is no such breed. so its a russian dwarf hamster i think :). im really happy with him and i hope your happy with yours :-D

hi i am megan and i have a russian dwraf hamster, it is albino. It likes to bite for some reason. It even bites me. it is vary small for the size it is supposed to be. It is spussed to be 3 ins but it is only 1 and a half and it is an adult it is very weird.

Hi, I just wanted to comment about Wet Tail, and how the Dry Tail is not very effective at all. Wet Tail is a very fatal disease, and even with the anti-biotics that the vets give out, I read that 80% of them still die. My little one has Wet Tail right now and I am really hoping she will get better. Anyway, I just wanted to comment that if a hamster appears to have this disease, then the first thing the owner should do is to take the hamster to a vet, RIGHT AWAY. Hamsters can die within 48 hours of when the symptoms have begun to show. Thank you =)

I think they are cute . I just had a Teddy Bear Hamster and it died. I only had it for four days. I found out my Hamster had some thing wrong with it because it never ate. Ihave a big hole in my Heart. Nothing can ever replace it. I am getting another one but it can not replace my old one. The one that died name was Teddy Nichole Rench. The one that I am getting is just like the one that died is going to be named Teddy Jr Rench. I would do anthing to have my hamster back.

But u need to be gentle, but still play with them. They love that (when u play with them). i have three russian hamsters, two girls named stilivi and nika and a boy called jack. we bought the boy to mate with one of the girls and he has. i dont know for certain if she is pregnant but if she is i will be so happy! lol! i heard that they eat there first litter and if this is true would you be able to take the baby hamsters out of the cage till they are older and then put them back in to save them being killed? if you told me to recomend hamsters i would say get two female dwarf russians because unlike the males they dont bite you (well my male does lol). and even though they fight no one gts hurt (well...stilivi did bleed but i cleaned her up. ;)) get a decent large cage with lots of tunnels and a wheel and they will be so amazingly happy! ta 4 reading yol!

Hi my name is Brittany and i am 12 years old. I have a russian Dwarf Hamster which is a male called Peter. He is grey with a black stripe down the middle, quite chubby and has a very fluffy white belly. He has a see-saw tunnel but i dont put it in his cage any more because he cleans inside it and then he flips over and he gets stuck and i have to help him out. They are called the Winter Whites.... they change colors in the Summer.. depending on how much light they get.. they can turn gray/brown to snowy bright white. Many times they are overpriced and mislabled to make it sound like special hamsters. For exmaple teddy bear hamsters are really long-haired syrians.

These animals are very quiet so they make very great pets for seniors!

My college roommate and I got a Teddy Bear Hamster about 2 months ago. He has red hair and his name is Punkie Jr. because I have red hair and my nickname is Punkie. I love my hamster and spoil him rotten. I play with him every day to make sure that he knows how much he is loved. My mother says that I treat him like he is a dog and pretends that she doesnt like him, but she calls herself his grandma when she thinks nobody is listening. We bought him a little play pen and made him toys out of tissue boxes and paper cups and he loves them more than any of the toys that we bought for him. Russion Dwarf hamstors do not smell like other pets. The are a little nippy but if you get them young they will be your friend! They love to run so they will have to get alot of work outs! These animals should not be by a draft and should be very warm. They love to pouch food in there cheeks and store them somewerels in there cage. These hamstors love to explore so you can get atachments for there cage. Another thing is that they love to be loved so you need time in your day to takecare of it.

I have two dwarf hamsters.The bigger one named "Digger" is white and my other the smaller one is named "Chewy" and is gray. They are both realy cute and are very easy to take care of. I recommend to have an exersize ball. I also recommend to give them something to chew on otherwise they chew out of a plastic cage and make very annoying sounds on a metal cage.

I only have 1 hamster. It is a female at the age of about 25-27 weeks old. It is very small and very fast. It has a grey torso with a grey and white head, it also has a tiny tail that is grey also. I love my hamster and it is great fun to play with.

We have 15 russian dwarf hamsters and the only reason we have that many is I made the mistake of putting a male and a female together, but still we love them all. We even have a deformed one but we took him to the doctor and they said he will be fine. One of the little hamsters just had a litter. Dont make the same mistake I made because after one litter is grown up there will be a new litter from the babies. They do breed with their siblings.

I worked in an albino hamster, drug testing laboratory, for fifteen years. They are truely wonderful animals and i regret exploiting them as we did. I would highly recomend them as a pet; I would know as i now keep over twenty-five as pets. They certainly brightened up my life for fifteen years and they still do.
