Number of comments: 27To help with your question about the corn snake eating habits, sometimes there are a few precautions that have to be taken. First of all, you should (as obvious as it may seem) try making sure that you prepared the mouse the same way. Secondly, snakes eat their prey at room temperature, so make sure that it isn't hotter than that, or colder. The last thing that I can say is that sometimes, the snake simply won't eat. They should be fed once every week, and should not be held for at least two days after feeding. I have had my hypo bright orange corn snake for about 8 years, and there have been times where he simply didn't eat. I wouldn't stress over it, as long as you try to feed him/her, they will eat whenever they are comfortable. If this persists, try talking to an actual herpetologist (I am only 16, though I have done my homework) about sickness. Lastly, make sure the snake has a heating pad. If the snake gets too cold, it WILL die. Im sure you already knew this, but I have to suggest it because some people don't know. If you have any further questions email me at snakedoodle@gmail.com.
Galen Greene 2009-09-15I recently acquired an albino corn snake for my classroom. I am trying to use frozen "pinkies". Last week went fine and she ate the pinkie with no problems after thawing it first. This week she doesn't seem interested. Any advice would be appreciated.
Shelly Harrison 2009-08-30I've had my albino cornsnake for about 12 years. His name is Cayenne (his?). I was raised in a family that included lots of animals. Snakes were just apart of our menagerie... This included 2 king snakes, gopher snakes, alligator, blue belly lizards, garter snakes...etc. At least a dozen of reptiles alone. I acquired Cayenne on the last day of a closing pet store, that I just happened to enter... not wanting to give my money to a big box store. There was hardly anything left in the place but 3 terrariums. Cayenne was one. I felt for these animals and wondered about their fate. I had 40 dollars in my pocket...the lady gave me the whole set up. I had 2 young boys at home, I kind of wanted to raise them the same way. So my kids are gone, the snake is still here... he's been a great pet... but isn't he growing old? How long will he live... if he is getting old (like me!) I want to know how I can best care for him as a senior snake.
Redwitch 2009-06-03I have had my Albino Corn Snake "Pullo" for little more than 2 years. He was about 18" when I got him and is now nearly 4' long. He really seems to enjoy being held, in fact, he typically doesn't want to go back in his cage after I hold him.
Scottwax 2009-05-22I wrote back on 2-12 about Maize my new white corn snake. He is eating frozen (thawed) pinkies. I have been feeding him twice a week and he really seems to be thriving. He doesn't mind to be handled. He is actually shedding right now and doesn't seem to be bothered by it at all. Just wanted to tell all if you think your snake won't eat frozen, be patient and make sure the pinkie is good and warm. So far it has worked for me.

Lori 2009-04-05I just aquired an albino corn snake that I named Maize Bianco. I think it is male (ha ha) I have always loved snakes and volunteer at the local zoo and handle many tropical snakes. So far he has been great. He definitely prefers live food to frozen. He is a good eater and seems to be very content. I think they make great pets. Hats off to snake lovers!!! Any comments for a new snake owner would be greatly appreciated.

Lori Mangold 2009-02-12I just got a baby albino snake for Christmas (already love it!) and I have a question. I read here that the snake will not do well in bright lighting, but that is the bulb the store gave me. My snake has a log 'house' that it can hide under. Is this fine? or should I switch out the light? Also, as of now I have the light positioned on the side of the tank (approx 30 gal). Should I have it further away? I also have a red light and was planning on using that at night because my house can get pretty cold. Any info would be nice.
melissa 2008-12-25Hey Everybody, I just bought an Albino CornSnake and I luv her. I think it's a her, lol. But, um yes, I bought her 12-21-08 at 8:30pm. This is my 1st time taking care of a snake, if anybody has good tips, please help me out. By introduction: Her Name is Fyre (hint: fire spelled differently) and she's great already. Hopefully I will be a great pet owner.
Tarranicka 2008-12-21I have had my albino corn snake for a year and a month now and he behaves very well. Thankfully he eats both live and dead because I made a move to NC where none of the nearby stores have live. They are great to start out with before getting real big snakes. Mine is almost 2 ft already and I feed him once every 7 days, alternating between fuzzies and hoppers.

Jovan Dargan 2008-11-11I have an Albino corn snake named Tango. I have had him for 6 years, he is 4 and half foot. He is real friendly because I handle him a lot. I give him two medium mice a week. He isn't over weight and is in great shape.
Kimbo 2008-09-02Feeding your snake... it may have a preferance for live or dead food, some snakes like there food to be alive and others its dead.
Veronica 2008-07-30I bought an albino corn snake 6 weeks ago and she won't eat, I was wondering can any one tell me why please.
Amanda 2008-06-25Snakes are the best animals. Corn snake, african rock, rosy boa, emerald tree boa, and riticulated python are the snakes which I like so much. I am Ayham, I am 11 years old, and snakes are my life.
ayham 2008-04-04i just got an albino corn snake like a few hours ago and her name is ripley. she is already friendly and very nice. she was my b-day present, i just turned 11. she let me hold her the first time i saw her and loves it. she hasn't hissed or been aggressive yet and i hope she stays like that. she's great so far and i love her. she is the nicest snake ever and im very glad i have her!=]
haylea 2007-11-04We have had an albino corn snake since April of this year and LOVE him. He has been the best pet. I just wish I had discovered snakes as pets before I discovered dogs and cats. Very easy to care for. Our albino is very docile, loves to be held, has never coiled or offered to strike, has never hissed. We feed him in a separate plastic container so that he does not associate our hand coming into his home as offering food. In late May, we got a ghost corn snake. We keep her in a separate home than our albino, though they are about the same size (now about 18 inches). She is not as friendly as our albino, though she still has not offered to strike. She does become somewhat apprehensive when you try to pick her up and she does get in the striking position sometimes. She is not as comfortable being held and when in her home, she hides most of the time, while our albino loves lying in his tree or on the sand. We bought them at different stores so I imagine they were handled differently in the stores and that is why they are so different now. Or I guess they could just have different temperaments like people do!
Lisa P. Whitten 2007-08-15I have had Pinky for more than seven years now. He is almost 7 ft. long so he is a couple years older and a couple feet longer than the average Snow Corn Snake. I think it is due to the fact that I keep him active. I let him outside to play in the trees and slither along the ground. He is so laid back that I have yet to see him take off at more than a turtle crawl. Also, I make plans to have him visit the serpentarium for a couple months during the spring season so he can meet the lady snakes. We visit the libraries in our county for special events such as today we will be going to a grand opening for the new library branch on the island. This keeps him people friendly. He loves people and water. Oh and he loves chicken! I have fed mice and rats to Pinky for years; sometimes 2 large rats at a feeding. A month or so ago I was cleaning some chicken breasts for a meal and I had Pinky around my neck. Next thing I know, he is munching on a piece. So, I have made his diet staple chicken breast. It works great for both of us. He gets frisky and tries to get out of his cage now and then. But I recognize that he loves attention and just wants to hang out with us, his family. Love is always the key to a good pet, regardless of what kind of pet you have.
Debbie Heckman 2007-08-11i just got a snow corn snake and she is just so cute. She is getting tame but she hisses when she is woken up. She is also very docile but gets quite active when you first get her out.
jonathan.D 2007-06-25I own four morp corns. They make wonderful pets for the first time snake owner. They are one of the most docile snakes. You must keep in mind that these are animals and have bad days like we all do. They may strike if hungry or scared or if the animal isn't used to being handled. Snakes can strike when you first reach in to remove them from their home. It is best to use a glove or snake hook to remove them. Always, Always research animals before buying, so you know and understand the needs of the animal. Some animals need special lighting or food that costs more than other species. Good luck with your animal.
April 2007-02-07I got a albino cornsnake on my birthday. I just love him, I would die if I didn't have him. One day I took him to school. After that all my friends wanted one. We bought him a hut. He is in it all the time. We know when Slither is hungry, he sticks his head out of his hut. I don't know if he is a he/she. I call him a he. Slither is still just a baby. When I hold him he curls up in my hand. Slither is the best pet I ever had.
