Freshwater Fish Compatibility Chart

If you love fish as much as I do, this is definitely worth checking out. We were invited by PetCo to share their freshwater fish compatibility chart with you. There are also some of the general behaviors and characteristics of each group.
You can select fish that can live together in harmony. When aquatic inhabitants are good neighbors, keeping a freshwater aquarium is incredibly rewarding. The available types of fish and aquatic animals that will spice up a tank is vast, and exciting. Some of the best known fish are very colorful, like betta and rainbowfish or the pretty guppies, mollies, and swordfish. Very active fish like tetras and barbs also add delight. For a touch of the exotic there are critters like eels and sharks, African dwarf frogs, snails, and more.
It’s fun to watch your fish, frogs, snails, or any other critters cruising around the tank. Its also exciting to see their personalities unfold. To the delight of many aquarists, some of these fellows will even come to know their keepers!
There are so many colors, shapes, and intriguing characteristics to choose from when you visit a fish store. Yet each animal comes with its own behaviors, characteristics, and habitat needs that go into having a well balanced community.
To determine whether each species is compatible or not, here’s a few additional factors to consider as well:
- size of the fish
- temperament and gender
- activity level
- Temperament and gender
- areas of the tank they will inhabit
- water temperature
- pH level
This freshwater fish compatibility chart can help both first timers, and anyone adding new animals to their aquarium, to make good fish choices. With aquatic animals that are compatible and you will create an awesome display with happy, healthy pets!
