The Pomeranian is a classy looking toy breed,

being small and fluffy with a fox-like face.

Pomeranians are lively, smart, independent, and strong-willed. If properly socialized, they can usually get along well with other pets. They catch on quickly when training, and can learn lots of tricks. When selecting a Pomeranian, pay special attention to the condition of its eyes and teeth. It is also advisable to check bloodlines for hereditary problems.

Harlequin Macaws are some of the most beautiful and well behaved of all the hybrid macaws.

The Harlequin Macaws are a cross between a Blue and Gold Macaw and a Green-winged Macaw which makes for a very affectionate, energetic, and captivating youngster.  Both parents of the Harlequin Macaw also contribute to the striking colors of their offspring, though the father’s have the dominant gene and this will influence their final appearance.

" Frida" shown above has a Green-winged Macaw father, and the young Harlequin Macaw shown below has a Blue and Gold father. They both are very sweet affectionate birds and wonderful pets.

The Cardigan Welsh Corgi is one of the oldest of the herding dog breeds!

The Cardigan Welsh Corgi is a herding dog recognized by its long body followed by a long tail, and its short legs. It is one of two Welsh Corgi breeds developed in Wales beginning around 1200 B.C. The other Corgi is its southern cousin, the Pembroke Welsh Corgi. These two were only recognized as separate breeds about 70 years ago, but the Cardigan Corgi is said to be the older of the two.

Cardis are beloved for their loyalty and obedience and can be a hard-working companion. They are very protective of their families and make excellent guard dogs. They do have a tendency to be suspicious of strangers and are not a good choice for very young children. However if well socialized when a puppy, they can be fine with children that are older and more pet savvy. Cardigans aim to please, so they are usually easy to train.

The Bouvier des Flandres served as a message carrier and rescue dog

during World War I, during which the breed nearly became extinct!

The Bouvier des Flandres are highly intelligent large dogs. They have a long coat with a rough wavy texture, a notably distinctive beard and mustache, and shaggy eyebrows. They are quick learners and respond well to consistent training. They excel as guard dogs, and can also be trained for tracking, agility, carting, schutzhund, and as a seeing eye dog.

These are calm dogs with pleasant temperament, but they do need lots of human companionship. They make loyal companions and are great with children. They will need to be well socialized when young to ensure compatibility with other dogs and cats. Some may be aggressive toward other dogs.

When selecting a Bouvier des Flandres, check bloodlines for hip dysplasia. This breed is also somewhat prone to eye problems.

English Mastiff

Despite its large imposing size, the Mastiff is a calm dog that can be kept indoors!

The Mastiff, also commonly know as the English Mastiff or Old English Mastiff, is a working breed. The Mastiffs are the oldest English dog breed. They were originally breed to bait bulls, bears and lions and used in dog fighting. Later they were used to guard for sheep, and then to serve as search and rescue dogs. Today they are popular as a pet, and as a guard and protector.

As a pet, the English Mastiff temperament is calm and gentle. It loves to please and craves companionship. Mastiffs are wonderful protectors, keeping strangers at bay until it is apparent that they are welcome. They rarely need any training at all to make excellent guard dogs. Bravery and loyalty come naturally to them. Unfortunately, the Mastiff’s massive size has made it a frequent target of breed bans…

Keeshond Dog Picture - Kiefer

Kiefer is now two years old and a great fellow. Still has a lot of puppy in him, but does well at his agility class.

The Keeshond is primarily a companion dog today, but they once worked for Dutch sailors!

Though it is a type of German Spitz, the Keeshond actually originated in the Netherlands. In its lineage this Spitz tyoe includes the Samoyed, Chow Chow, Elkhound, and Pomeranian.
It was named after Kees de Gyselaer, the leader of the Dutch rebellion during the French Revolution. Favored by him, it became a mascot for the rebels.
After the Revolution it became extinct. It was not until the 1920s, when it was introduced in the United States, that it regain momentum.

The Keeshond has a sweet and outgoing personality. These affectionate dogs make excellent family pets, and they can be trained as watchdogs. It is a lively breed that loves to entertain and is often trained to do tricks. It tends to get along with everyone, and though it will alert you to strangers it is not aggressive. This breed is great with children and usually other pets.

Gypsy
"Ever heard of a “foot” cat?"

2008-10-13

Here’s what Madonna says about Gypsy:

"Gypsy loves to play with feet, to rub her chin across them. She also loves to sleep at the foot of my bed, where she purrs loudly while sucking on the blankets (like a kitten that nurses on the mother). She will reach as high as she can to play with feet, but she doesn’t rub her chin across fingers at all."

"Gypsy looks so sleek… and what beautiful eyes! We also think her name is perfect. Thanks for sharing her here."

Belgian Malinois Dog
“Mo”

The Belgian Malinois is a multi-talented dog.

It is employed in all sorts of work including guarding, tracking, narcotics and bomb detection, herding, cart and sled pulling, and search and rescue!

The Belgian Malinois is a herding breed. It is very hardy and energetic, and is wildly popular in its native country of Belgium.
The Malinois is one of four types of Belgian Sheepdogs. These were each developed from other working dogs, and all are very skilled at herding.

Although the Malinois was not bred as a pet, it can make a very good one. It loves being treated like part of the family. It is very loyal and loves children.
It is also very protective, making it a great guard dog.
Exercise caution when it is around other pets and watch for a dominant behavior towards other dogs. Good socialization when it is young will surely help it get along with other family pets.
