Rain
"Rain has all the cuteness bases covered!"

2008-07-25

Here’s what Jaye Lyn says about Rain:

"She is my first bird ever. And I probably never would have gotten one except someone I know weaned her and her sister and I fell in love with her at that point. Now I don’t think I could find a bird as spoiled as her. She won’t be coaxed to talk, she learns words very quickly, but chooses only to use them when she sees fit. Her main phrases are, “I love you”, “Momma”, “Hey, Rain”, “Hey, come here”, “Let me out”, and “What?” (used when she’s done something wrong, mostly). And many many more, I never knew they could learn so much so quickly. She is special, amazing, and I love her so much! She is my baby girl and very special. I hope I have her for a very very long time!"

Celestial Eye Goldfish

Now this goldfish really caught my eye! It seems things are ALWAYS looking up for this fish.

Celestial Eye Goldfish
Celestial Eye Goldfish

"I am always looking at the heavens, so some folks call me a ‘Stargazer’!"
7/19/2008

With eyes that are permanently looking skyward,

the Celestial Eye Goldfish is known by the Chinese as the Stargazer!

The eerie eyes of the Celestial Eye Goldfish make it perhaps one of the most unusual of all the goldfish varieties, with the Telescope Goldfish and Bubble Eye Goldfish following close behind. The Chinese, who called this fish the Stargazer, were believed to have developed it in the later part of the nineteenth century, somewhere around 1870. During this time its eyes were at least partially mobile. Then in the early 1900’s the Japanese further developed it, and through selective breeding the result was a goldfish whose eyes were permanently locked in an upward position. To the Japanese it is known as the Deme-Ranchu…

"”A smart little boy who is loved very much.”"

2008-07-17

Here’s what Tonya says about Bear:

"Bear is a Shih Tzu, Bichon Frise mix. He’s very playful and loves to ’steal’ socks to hide under the bed. He has to sleep on his pillow between his human mom and dad. He has 2 brothers, Cujo,a JRT, and Blue, a miniature dapple dachshund and 1 big sister Teejay, a chow. He loves to go byebye and hates when his ‘mom’ has to go to work. He’s a smart little boy who is loved very much."

Comet Goldfish

We are busy “beefing up” the goldfish section at animal-world so I thought Id post some of the results. Comets are probably one of the most popular tropical fish types, especially for ponds. For a long time I wondered if there was actually any difference between a comet and a common goldfish. As it turns out… there is a difference which is apparent once you know what to look for!

Comet GoldfishComet Goldfish
"This hardy comet goldfish has a long flowing fins, giving it a real flare when it comes to swimming!"
7/19/2008

The Comet Goldfish is much like the common goldfish,

but is a more reddish orange color and has a much longer, deeper forked tail fin!

The Comet Goldfish, also called the Comet-tail Goldfish, are a ‘reddish orange’ colored goldfish that are inexpensive and readily available. This fish was the first variety of the single-tail goldfish to be developed with a long caudal (tail) fin. It was developed in the United States from the Common Goldfish in the early 19th century, presumably by Hugo Mullert of Philadelphia who then introduced them in quantity into the market. Though they are a bit smaller goldfish than the Common Goldfish, they are every bit as durable and can be kept in either an aquarium or in an outdoor pond.

Bubble Eye Goldfish

Bubble Eye GoldfishBubble Eye Goldfish!

The Water-Bubble Eye Goldfish is a truly bizarre looking fish!

The Bubble Eye Goldfish, or Water-Bubble Eye Goldfish, is one of the most unique looking of the goldfish varieties. Rather than having the long slender body of the Common Goldfish or the Shubunkins, the Bubble Eye Goldfish is one of the more rounded or egg-shaped fancy gold fish. It is double-tailed and its body shape and size are very similar to the Celestial Goldfish, being a bit slimmer body than other egg-shaped goldfish. Also like the Celestial its eyes are upturned, though not as extreme as the Celestial.

Deadly Mulch – Warning for Dogs

Here is something all dog owners should be aware of! I haven’t seen a dog who would eat this stuff but I have seen them eat other odd stuff. Apparently the mulch smell is attractive to dogs who may try it out for a snack. There have been numerous cases of dogs getting sick because of it. Something you would probably never have thought about. If this video doesn’t come up (I’m having problems with it at the moment) please check it out here:
