White Pearly Calvus Cichlid

The handsome White Pearly Calvus is a very uniquely shaped and attractive fish!
White Pearly Calvus have a compressed body that allows them to squeeze into tight crevices and get to their prey easily, then they simply “suck” them into their large mouth. They also come in a variety of interesting colors. Being of a more peaceful disposition than a lot of cichlids, they are great for a peaceful Lake Tanganyika community environment. They mostly just mind their own business!

Not only is the Convict Julie a very pretty fish, it has a nice temperament!
The Convict Julie is a fairly peaceful cichlid and you can keep just one specimen, a pair, or even a group of these fish. They also do well in a community cichlid tank. Keep them with other Tanganyika cichlids that are similar in size. They are easy to care for as long as regular water changes are done to keep water at optimal levels. Provide them with a sandy or fine gravel substrate along with lots of rock formations and plants. This fish will breed in captivity, and the plants will provide cover for the newly hatch fry.

"Despite my name and appearance, I’m actually quite peaceful"

Electric Blue Hap Cichlid

Because of its intense electric blue coloring, the Electric Blue Hap is one of the most popular Lake Malawi Cichlids in the hobby!
The Electric Blue Hap is easy to care for as long as they are not overfed, and the water conditions and tank set up is to their liking. Do not look at the silver colored female and discard the idea of having this fish for a pet. They readily breed and the fry are easy to raise. The brilliant blues of the male more than make up for the lack of color of the females, plus the females are handsome fish in their own right. In fact some females can eventually develop a faded light blue coloring when mature.

"Oh yeah, I’ve got the color… but I’ve also got the style!"

Kenyi Cichlid

Easy to please as long as their requirements are met, the Kenyi Cichlid is a great fish for a first time Malawi tank!
Though the Kenyi Cichlid holds its own in a larger aquarium of mixed Mbunas, it is not a community tank specimen with fish other than cichlids. They are very aggressive, even 2 inch juveniles have the desire and power to devastate feeder guppies. The male and female have totally different colorations, but the female has just as attractive coloring as the male.

Fergie, Yellow-Crown Amazon Parrot
Here’s what Pat says about Fergie:
“Fergie is a great talker. If you’re busy doing something like talking on the phone or anything that takes you away from her getting attention, she will say so and in the sweetest little girl voice you ever want to hear! She says come’n play with me please. It works everytime. How could it not, she is just so darn cute.”
Fergie
"”I’m not an African Grey, but boy can I talk!”

Red Empress Cichlid

As ’sand sifters’ the Red Empress is great for keeping the top surface of the substrate clean, even in a planted aquarium!
The Red Empress, also known as the Spindle Hap, is easy to moderate to care for, depending on the aquarist’s diligence in keeping water quality high. They are easy to breed and the male has beautiful coloring as long as water quality is kept high. Good quality water will result in colorful males willing to spawn almost immediately after they are added to a large tank. Provide plenty of rock work in the background, forming caves and holes as hiding areas for the females during mating season. They like vertically placed rocks as well, and will use a smooth flat rock or two for spawning. They are not aggressive toward tank mates. Even during mating they only defend a small area, and give it up after the spawn is done.

"Personally, I’m partial to being called an ‘Empress’!"
