"I am the ‘real’ Red-tail… folks often confuse me with the regular Tinfoil Barb!"

The Red-tail Tinfoil Barbs makes an excellent addition to a large aquarium,

especially when you need large but relatively peaceful inhabitants!

The Red-tail Tinfoil Barb can be confused with other members of its genus, especially the almost identical Tinfoil Barb Barbonymus schwanenfeldii. Though both these tinfoil barbs have a black marking on their dorsal fin only the Tinfoil Barb has red on this fin. The Red-tail Tinfoil Barb also is also missing black submarginal lines on the caudal fin.

It is important to know which of these two species you are getting. One of the main reasons is the difference in size. The Red-tail Tinfoil barb is a much smaller fish and so is much easier to house….

Golden Tinfoil Barb

The Goldent Tinfoil Barb is an impressive fish for a large public show aquarium, though at 14 inches in length, it is a bit too big for most home aquaria!

The Golden Tinfoil Barb is a color variety of the Tinfoil Barb. Though it is easy to keep it will grow rapidly. reaching an intimidating size of up to 14 inches (35 cm) in length. This fish and all the Tinfoil Barb varieties are considered too large for most aquariums. Though they are generally peaceful they will eat smaller fish, so are not always suitable for a community aquarium.
An aquarium best suited to this fish would be large and roomy, with a fine gravel bottom, and dense plantings along the edges. They like to burrow so be sure to use hardy plants. The Golden Tinfoil Barb can also be kept with cichlids.

Gold Line Rasbora

The Slender Rasbora is a great fish for the aquarist looking for a less common species to add interest to their tank!

The Slender rasbora isn’t as colorful but is just as beautiful as its flashier cousins. Their most prominent feature is a blue-black line that runs the body length. This line is very finely outlined in gold. It is this feature that has inspired several rather descriptive names, including Black LIne Rasbora and Gold Line Rasbora.

In the wild, this fish may be found swimming the rivers in schools with hundreds of individuals. So a school is a must, and the more individuals the better. These fish do fine in community tanks but will suffer in the company of aggressive fish. Slender Rasboras really look beautiful in a tank that simulates their habitat with plants, rocks, wood and substrate.
Keeping the Slender Rasbora does require some mastery of water chemistry. Fluctuations in water quality leave this fish weak and prone to disease.

Rummy Nose Rasbora

Put a school of these fish in their own specimen tank, and the Rummy Nose Rasbora will bless you with nice coloration and a good disposition!

Although the Rummy Nose Rasbora has developed surprisingly similar markings to the South American Rummy Nose Tetra, the two species developed separately into transcontinental look-alikes. This fish has no shortage of common names, being referred to as the Asian Rummynose, Sawbwa Barb, Naked Micro Rasbora, and Rummynose Rasbora. The numerous common names, including both the term barb and rasbora, are due to an ongoing debate over whether this fish fits into the Barb, Rasbora, or Danio category, or if they belong in their own group.

Here’s what Aleta says about Fat-Boy:

“I own several “Suggies” and this little sweetie is my darlin’. I deem myself lucky to be considered #2 in his life….second only to his snacks! My husband may be right though, if my little Fat-Boy tried to “glide” now… I fear he may not get too far away from his tree!”

Espes Rasbora

Meet the Espe’s Rasbaora, an adorable little rasbora originating from overgrown jungle streams!

The Espe’s Rasbora is yet another amazing aquarium fish from South East Asia. This fish is also known as the False Harlequin, Lambchop Rasbora, Espei Rasbora, and Slim Harlequin. This agreeable little rasbora couldn’t be friendlier and there simply isn’t a better fish to compliment a thoughtfully planted aquascape.

Espe’s Rasboras have a unique bronze color and pink blush which you really won’t find on any other aquarium fish. Even though they have a tendency to not swim in a tight school, companionship of their own species is absolutely essential. These fish are a great addition to any peaceful tank.
