The Starck’s Demoiselle are much sought after by aquarists… they are a fish that just about every fish lover, at some time or other, would love to keep.

The Starck’s Demoiselle or Starcki Damsel is a beautiful fish. An excellent aquarium pet, it is easy to keep, hardy, and quite disease resistant. This species does not keep its brilliant blue in the aquarium all the time, sometimes it gets darker or deep blue, but the contrast between its two different colors is always quite attractive.

Though not often available, the Rolland’s Demoiselle is a wonderful damsel addition to an as it is not only hardy, but is peaceful!

There are two color variations of the Rolland’s Demoiselle. One is like that shown below with the blue horizontal line running above the eye, and the other pictured below that has a yellowish head. Both varieties are quite attractive. Other members in the Chrysiptera genus, though very handsome are often quite aggressive toward other fish or species of the same genus. The Rolland’s Demoiselle is not so aggressive.

Copperband Butterflyfish

Getting a Copperband Butterflyfish is like choosing from a box of fine chocolates, each is a unique individual and though there are clues, …you won’t know exactly what you’ve got until you have it!

The Copperband Butterflyfish, also known as the Beaked Coralfish is one of three species in the Chelmon genera, all of which are noted for having longer beaks. This pretty butterflyfish is commonly available and is reasonably priced. However it is delicate and the ease of keeping this species varies from one fish to another. Some will be easily adapted and maintained while others refuse foods and perish. The best success in keeping this species is in choosing a healthy well fleshed out individual, avoiding any that look emaciated. It is reported that those from Australia may do better than those from other areas, possibly reflecting methods of collection and transport, and they usually cost a bit more.

Rainford’s Butterflyfish

The Rainford’s Butterflyfish is quite beautiful but is a poor eater, consequently it is very difficult to keep in the aquarium.

The Rainford’s Butterflyfish is one of the rounded, disc-shaped Butterflyfish in the genus Chaetodon. It is one of four species that form a distinct group, the subgenus Discochaetodon. This subgenus is restricted almost entirely to the Western Pacific and those within the subgenus can only be distinguished from one another by their individual color patterns.
