Cat Video Contest – Fresh Step

Check out the Animal-World entry to the Fresh Step contest!
Fresh Step is running a contest where anyone can enter a video of their cat doing something cute, funny, silly, crazy, beautiful, interesting, WHATEVER and have a chance to get their cat featured in a national advertisement!
I just put up my video of my cat, Bridget, doing what she normally does, acting the spoiled princess, and uploaded it to the contest page. Check it out here – Fresh Step Video Contest.
So what do guys think? The most difficult part isn’t finding times when she’s being a prissy or silly kitty, since she basically always does that, but actually having the camera around when she’s doing something video worthy. If you want to enter the contest but are finding it hard to capture that perfect moment, here’s a few tips:
- Carry your camera with you at all times when your cat is around. You never know when your cat might do the cutest thing ever and you want to be prepared
- Learn how to control your camera very well. Often cats get bored rather quickly with something, so be sure you can take your video quickly and not mess around with settings or hitting wrong buttons.
- Either do things or provide things that you know interest or engage your cat. For me it was simply a matter of doing something Bridget hates: getting brushed! Once I start to brush her the video practically makes itself!
- Finally, and most importantly, take lots of video! Even if your cat seems boring to you, other people might find it to be really cute or unique, so don’t be afraid to fill up your SD card! Then go over the videos and find something special.
So check out the contest, upload your cat, and good luck!

Blue Coral
Heliopora coerulea
"Am I blue? Well yes I am, but its my pretty skeleton that is blue, not my feelings!"
9/20/2010
The beautiful skeleton of the exotic Blue Coral is usually hidden,
unless it gets broken in rough sea storms!
The Blue Coral Heliopora coerulea is actually a soft coral, rather than a stony coral. But it is quite a unique soft coral with a very interesting history. It is the only remaining species of its family, Helioporidae. At one time its family was a dominant coral in the world’s oceans. Its demise and the extinction of all its relatives came not from global warming, but from massive cooling of the seas during the last ice age. Today this coral only survives in a narrow band of tropical waters along the equator… Read More
Lap Up this Lapdog Information – All about Toy Pooches

They sure look cute – with their tiny faces and tinier feet, lapdogs make you want to take one home yourself. But before you go shopping for these toy dogs, it’s best to learn all you can about them, because as you should be aware, looks can be deceiving. Some of these pooches may seem all cuddly and innocent, but they have a bark and bite that’s an anomaly to their tiny size. So before you get yourself one of these small pooches, here’s what you need to know about their temperament and requirements.
- They’re ideal for people with small houses and those who live in condos or apartments because all their exercise can be had indoors.
- They don’t require as much grooming care as large dogs, but most of them do sport a hairy coat, so they need to be brushed regularly and their coats must be trimmed every few months.
- Small dogs with no hair or thin coats must live indoors as they are susceptible to cold climates.
- Not all toy dogs are lap dogs, so before you buy one, check out its temperament to see if it will lie quietly on your lap or allow you to carry it around.
- Dogs with a smooth coat like the Chinese Crested require very little care by way of grooming, but they are prone to sunburn, allergies and frequent skin irritation.
- Some breeds are highly energetic, and even though they’re small and seem like quiet lapdogs, they need to be taken out and exercised regularly.
- Some lapdogs even make good watch dogs – the Manchester Terrier and the Miniature Pinscher are some of these; so if you’re looking for a toy dog to surprise burglars, one of these should be your choice.
- Some dogs like the Pekingese could be difficult to house train.
- Many toy dogs like the Pomeranian and the Shih Tzu have thick coats which require daily brushing and regular grooming. Also, dogs like the Poodle and the White Maltese professional grooming, so you must be able to afford it on a regular basis.
- A few lapdogs like the Chihuahua are high strung and require careful handling; yet with the right kind of training, they can be sweet-natured and gentle.
- Some toy dogs like the Toy Fox Terrier, the Black Fell Terrier and the Dachshund are good hunters and love the outdoors, so they may not be suited to apartment living and indoor dwelling like other lapdogs.
- Toy dogs like the pug shed a lot of hair, so if you’re allergic, it’s best to go for the hypo allergenic breeds like the Chinese Crested and the Poodle.
Before you invest in a lapdog, ensure that it will suit your lifestyle and vice versa – only then can you and your pooch live in peace.

The Mycedium genus is very hardy and one of the easiest to keep corals of the Pectiniidae family. It has a unique appearance that is very popular with many aquarists. The “bumps” on the surface of the coral resemble down turned noses, and on very colorful specimens, green eyes. The coral grows in a flat or plate form and is usually oriented in a vertical position.
