How to Safely Enjoy Wild Animals While Camping

One of the rare outdoor experiences that camping can offer is the chance to see wild animals in their natural habitat!
Zoos and public aquariums are great places to see all sorts of wild animals up close. Yet seeing them behind zoo railings and cages, there are times when you can’t help but think that this somehow diminishs their innate power and beauty.
But when you see them freely roaming the wild, you realize how awe-inspiring they are…and how easy they can cause you and your loved ones harm if you don’t take note of the tips below.
Wild Animals – Safety Tips When Camping
Don’t feed wild animals.
That’s the no. 1 rule and you need to keep it in mind at all times no matter what kind of animal you’re dealing with. All wild animals have the potential to carry disease that they can then transmit to you when they bite or scratch you.
Observe them at a distance.
Avoid direct contact or observation at close proximity. This is for your safety as well as theirs. Bears that get used to human contact, for instance, may later on be classified as “nuisance animals” and be shot. You don’t want that to happen, do you? Also, there are many wildlife species that do prefer to be left alone and could migrate to other places if they feel that their current habitat is too “crowded”.
Make good use of your SLRs and binoculars instead. You know you’re seeing the real thing. There’s no need to get close and risk harm, don’t you think?
Don’t make any unnecessary noise.
Simply put – observe in silence. Think of the entire wilderness as one huge living, interactive library where you can only listen and marvel. At the very least, unnecessary or excessive noise could frighten wild animals away…maybe enough to force them never to come back. Worst case scenario, on the other hand, is that you rouse the ire or aggressive instincts of a wild animal and they come charging to your campsite.
Store and secure all food, leftovers, and garbage.
Even if you personally don’t want to view wild animals up close and you prefer to observe them at a distance, wild animals may feel otherwise. That’s because the smell of improperly secured garbage or leftover foods is drawing them to your campsite.
Observing wild animals in their natural habitat is a pleasure that you shouldn’t miss out on when camping but it’s a pleasure that could endanger your personal safety if you don’t play by the rules.

Chow Chow
One of the oldest dog breeds, the Chow Chow is believed to be one of the first domestic dog
breeds to evolve from the wolf.
Chows have many seemingly contrasting personality traits. They are stubborn and dominant by nature, yet they usually have good manners. They are not known for their obedience, but they are very loyal, often one-person dogs. The Chow is often introverted around strangers, and perhaps even its family. The biggest concern when selecting a Chow Chow is joint problems, including patellar luxation and hip and elbow dysplasia. Eye problems such as entropion are also somewhat common… Read More

Echinophyllia aspera
"This coral is quite durable, and will grow just about anywhere, even encrusting the glass of your aquarium!"
2/07/2010
A reef keeper’s dream, the Chalice coral is easy to keep and has the most remarkable,
bright and vivid, coloration!
The Echinophyllia genus is not only one of the easiest to keep of the Pectiniidae family, but the most colorful. In the wild they inhabit numerous habitats at various depths and water flow. Their adaptability to these multiple elements contributes to this being an easier coral to care for. In fact, if the edge of the coral is placed against any surface, like the glass of the aquarium, it will actually encrust onto it… Read More
