Metallic Blue Mushroom
"What’s shiny and blue, and eye-catching too? How about a Metallic Blue corallimorph!"
1/09/2010
Get those cool purple and blue colors into your tank with this larger sized Actinodiscus,
the Metallic Mushroom Coral!
The Metallic Blue Mushroom Actinodiscus coerulea is also known as the Blue Mushroom or Purple Mushroom. it is very hardy and will multiply on its own, offering you many new mushrooms. True to their names, these striking beauties can be purple, blue or a combination of the two, and may have a white mouth.
Like most Actinodiscus mushrooms, the Blue Mushroom or Purple Mushroom typically reaches only 2-3″ (5-8 cm). They have a pimpled surface which holds toxic stinging cells, instead of the long feeder tentacles found in sea anemones and stony corals. They have no ribbing but they can have ruffled edges.
The A. coerulea is readily available, and a great coral for beginners to advanced aquarists… More

Bluffon’s Macaw
Bluffon’s Macaw
"NO BLUFFIN’, I’m a Bluffon’s! My momma was a Blue and Gold, but I’m the son of a Buff!"
This is “Lassiah”, a 3 year old male “Bluffons” macaw.
Lassiahs mother is a Buffon’s Macaw and his father is a Blue & Gold Macaw!
The Bluffon’s Macaw is a hybrid cross between a Blue and Gold Macaw and a Buffon’s Macaw. It is a first generation macaw, meaning its parents are two species of naturally occurring macaws. The Blue and Gold Macaw has been has been one of the most popular pet birds in the trade. The Buffon’s Macaw, highly endangered in its native habitat, has been quite scarce. But it has done very well in captivity. It is a ready breeder and is becoming more firmly established today. Some Buffon’s Macaws have even been re-introduced into their native habitat.
Hybrid macaws are bred for color. Because they are a mixture of more than one type of macaw, the offspring are influenced by the traits and characteristics of both of its parents. Father’s have the dominant gene, so this will generally influence the offspring’s coloration and overall appearance…. More

As the name implies, the Disk Coral Fungia spp. are mostly round, though an occasional specimen will be elongated. They range from saucer-like shapes to dome shapes and can also be dented. Other common names they are known by are Rough Feather Coral, Common Mushroom Coral, Elongate Mushroom Coral, Distorted Mushroom Coral, Plate Coral, Disc Coral, Tongue Coral, Fungus Coral, and Chinaman Hat Coral.

Lesser Knob Coral
Cyphastrea decadia
"Nope, not an Acropora! I’m unique, a SPS coral in an LPS genus, brightly colored, small starry polyps… yes, and extremely beautiful!"
3/31/2010
The Lesser Knob Coral can be extremely beautiful,
having bright contrasting colors in aquacultured specimens!
Aquacultured corals of the Cyphastrea genus are extremely beautiful, and the Lesser Knob Coral Cyphastrea decadia is no exception. The natural colors of this group include gray, brown, cream, green, yellow, and white.
Aquacultured specimens have been developed into much more colorful animals! These varieties can include shades of reds and oranges, pinks, purples, blues, and lavenders. The colors often contrast, with the background or surface area, known as the ‘coenosteum’ being one color, while the ‘corallites’, the raised areas where the polyps reside, being another. Aquacultured specimens are nothing short of amazing! Read More
